Keep our name out of it, Salmond

1113

I’ve heard some utter tosh from politicians over the years but never anything so blatantly untrue as the comments from our First Minister, Alex Salmond, reported today.  This clown is telling people Rangers need to be saved for the sake of Celtic.  He said:

“The most diehard Celtic supporter understands that Celtic can’t prosper unless Rangers are there. The rest of the clubs understand that as well. Therefore you have to have cognisance of these things when you’re pursuing public policy.

Keep our name out of it you incoherent fool.

If our prosperity depends on the survival of Rangers it’s time our values and priorities changed.  You of all people should know this after your lecturing last year.  Celtic have not been well served by their association with Rangers, nor vice versa.  As a combined entity, the ‘Old Firm’ have not been good for Scotland.

I’m keen to hear what his “public policy” on the matter is.  Salmond goes on to say:

“We’ve certainly been arguing to HMRC on one hand, and indeed to Rangers, to for goodness sake get a settlement, get a settlement and a structure over time whereby Rangers can continue because Rangers must continue for the future of Scottish football and for the fabric of the country.”

How dare you argue with HMRC?  Even Rangers admit the potential underpayment could be £75m.  How many nurses, teachers and policemen would that employ, Mr Salmond?  This is the true cost of his position.

This sorry business has nothing to do with Celtic, I hope our club make this clear to provocative politicians.  All you die-hard Celtic supporters out there better let this man know he has no right to speak for you.

“Fabric of the country”. He got that bit right, alas.

The signed Celtic top we are auctioning on eBay for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal has reached an incredible value. Well done to everyone who participated, you are remarkable ambassadors for Celtic Football Club.

Why the hell did Neil Lennon have to enter the fray with his Twitter comments. I love Neil to pieces but will he ever learn? There are millions of Tims making all the necessary comments on his behalf. He needs to keep his comments to himself as far as the rabid mob are concerned.

  3. Re Ticketus and the Rangers group.

Did Ticketus money go to Rangers plc or did it go to the investment group? Are these two treated as separate entities under the law?

Surely if it went to the group, then even if Rangers FC goes into liquidation (or agrees a CVA) then the money is still owed to Ticketus by the group?

    This, from an ESPN link

“Whyte said the deal, which built on an existing relationship between the club and Ticketus, was fully underwritten by one of his companies.” http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1016652/craig-whyte-says-ticket-deal-is-no-risk-to-rangers-fans?cc=5739

So which ever of his companies that is is liable for the 24m regardless of what happens to the football club?

Or does putting the money into the group rather than the club allow him to waltz away with it while the club goes under?

I am very confused by all of this.

I just cant see Whyte ringing ticketus saying guys I need a loan of 24 Million and the only security I can offer is the next 4 years season ticket monies and ticketus saying no problem Craig gives us your bank acc details and we will deposit the money before the close of business. Ticketus to have 24 million to loan out in the first place must be a fairly sizeable company run by you would think proffesionals now what we are being told about the 24 million is far from proffesional no company can afford to gamble 24 Million.Something here stinks and its just not rotten salmond.H.H.

Bhoys I think we should all write a letter to Celtic advising if Huns lose the taxcase then the trophys gained by cheating must be wiped from their records.

Think of the embarrassment this will cause them, shows to the world they are cheats.

If the MBB hasn’t been paying tax since he took over.

Had the mib already won them the league before the tax evasion started.

Not in a million years. The little Runt (sorry about the spelling mistake) is using this opportunity to grab votes. Shameful and says more about the real character within than any party political broadcast he ever makes in the future will. get the message conveyed out there to the wider public in the uk , what is happening up here . government ministers backing tax evaders . MY god we didnt expect any fair play from the laptop loyal or scottish football HQ , but how many of us expected government minister siding with tax evaders . If enough of us contact the media down south ,then there is a chance this will be acted upon by the big boys down there , because we sure as hell wont get fair play up here .

‘The mhanks from tlb and liewell down are absolutely ragin as the Establishment gets behind us, if the taigs didn’t know they are second class they do now.’

  15. Just been thinking about the issue underlying one of Paul’s pieces earlier in the week.

Strathclyde Police were Rangers first creditor to ask for a payment guarantee from Rangers’ newly appointed administrator, saying, “Strathclyde Police is a public body and has a duty to make sure public resources are used appropriately. We are seeking an urgent meeting with the administrators to ensure that any payment for policing costs at future Rangers games is guaranteed.

“Until we have such a guarantee we would not be in a position to commit public resources to policing an event unless we had a reassurance that our costs would be met.”

There were of course subsequent assurances given and as we know the game is supposed to go ahead.

However given Whyte’s cavalier attitude to bill payment generally and public service bill payment in particular I started to think it’s unlikely the the police force bills are payed up to date when so many others are not.

That made me look at the words again and sure enough they only talk about costs for “FUTURE rangers games”.

So any money on a scenario that there are outstanding Police bills unpaid….. no guarantee……probable x% in the pound, but new bills which will be paid or at least are so promised. Who knows.

If the police was a commercial organisation (and not establishment focused) do you think they would provide their services on Saturday in those circumstances??

    No. Thought not.

Now don’t you think that we as tax payers should insist (from both the Police authorities and the Administrator) on assurances that past bills have been cleared before any new services are provided.

    I certainly do. Warszawa.

  28. Just in and hadn’t seen this when I posted;

Celtic have hit back at Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond’s comments they would not be able to survive without rivals Rangers.

Salmond, in response to the Scottish giants’ financial plight, claimed on Thursday that Celtic would be unable to thrive without the Ibrox club in the Scottish Premier League.

Administrators Duff and Phelps took over Rangers on Tuesday following a dispute with HM Revenue & Customs regarding an outstanding tax bill of £9million.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell spoke out earlier this week in confidence that the Hoops would be as strong as ever should Rangers have to depart the SPL.

    Disappointed

“We are very disappointed with the First Minister’s claims that Celtic ‘need’ Rangers and that Celtic ‘can’t prosper unless Rangers are there’,” the club’s official Twitter account read.

“This is simply not true. In a series of interviews given just three days ago, we made it abundantly clear Celtic has a well-defined strategy and a business plan independent of the fortunes of any other club. That remains absolutely the case.

“The predicament of Rangers is clearly a serious and complex matter with a whole range of possible outcomes.

“However, we are extremely well qualified to make our own position clear and have no wish to see that being misrepresented for political reasons.”
