Key decision of the year for Neil Lennon

1418

If you thumb through the pages of the Celtic Quick News comments section you’ll find a couple of overlapping areas of indifferent form being reported.  One for Beram Kayal and one for the team as a whole.  You’ll also note several contributors commenting that Beram’s form improved after his new contract was signed, settling speculation surrounding the player.

It may be coincidental that Beram’s form seemed to pick up after his future was settled but the fact that this happened a few days after the pivotal 3-3 draw at Kilmarnock suggests a whole lot of what has been going right at Celtic was linked to the Israeli’s form in this crucial central midfield area.

Neil Lennon has a huge tactical decision to make.  Get it wrong and he will not be able to replicate the impressive run of 10 consecutive wins.  Before making a decision, a good place to research would be videos of Celtic’s run up to and including that Kilmarnock game.  Knowing some of the things to avoid is a good start.

Spoke to Livibhoy on here about the team last year,

believe he had been over there working.

  3. Joe Fillipi – why on earth would we want to sell Hooper for £6M?

    Do we need the money?

Why would only a chunk be given to Lennon?

What is wrong with some of us???????

‘Gers’ are signing everybody, Neil Lennon hates the transfer window. full stop.

Meanwhile they have approached Sandaza unsettling him deliberately, then they give McCoist the platform to come on and fan the fire, by saying

    “it’s an unfortunate situation”

    Despicable and hunique.

  7. We would be insane to sell Gary Hooper it took us long enough to find a goalscorer who scores in the box and skelps the huns regularly..

Jeez oh money isn’t everything we’re trying to build a team here that can dominate in Scotland and return to the Champions League!!!

    Why sell??

My opinion is that Hooper has not been the same since Bougherra done him,he is now constantly waiting on the tackle and as a result it has effected both his touch and his inclination to close down. Add to that the speculation he was not best pleased when his pall Commons was at odds with authority and you have a player who’s perspective has changed.

NegAnon2 Fella in my opinion 6 million a profit of 4 million on Hooper would be good busines we need a striker who can score goals with both his head and his feet and also one who has a good first touch.I think Hooper has limited talent his first touch is rarely good he doesnt score with headers and his work rate is questionable.Wither we fans like it or not Celtic have allways been a selling club and we have sold better players than Hooper and gone to win trophies. H.H.

    Well done Mark on Clyde.

Clyde are going to have top sort out their policy on questions about Ranger’s future and related issues.

In attempting to avoid dealing with issues they are reduced to questionning the motivation and honesty of callers. Mark handle Keeven’s charge a lot better than I could have done, but the caller has full reason to complain about Keevins response and Clyde need to protect Keevins and themselves by reviewing the 3 monkeys policy which is the cause of the conflict.

  15. Keevins calling a guy making great points dishonest now. He’s venomous tonight. All your fault Terry. :-)

    I thoroughly recommend the area.

  17. Anyone on here suggesting that Celtic should accept £6million for Gary Hooper need to have a word with themselves. We lost the League in 2009 because we failed to add a striker and now people are suggesting we sell our top scorer! Why sell a proven scorer in SPL to spend the same money bringing in the Maritimo guy – if we get him. He might take a year to settle.

As I stated earlier I agree with your points re Hooper, plus the arrival of a new agent and the leaking of the private meeting indicates the agent is chasing an early return on his client.

  19. Auld Neil Lennon heid

I enjoyed Mark challenging Keevins on gis professional integrity and ability.

Keevins spluttering attempt at misdirection , including calling him dishonest, only strengthend Marks point.

Great point, makes no sense tae replace a proven goalscorer mid season with an unproven one.

Celtic should take a chance on the striker from Rapid Vienna scoring ststs are sensational n a £500k price tag,a no brainer.

  21. No selling of players until the league is won.

January is not the time for selling ANYONE from the first team squad.

  22. excathedra44 – utter tosh and balderdash – Mr Hooper may be going through a very short fallow patch but he is a proven goalscores and we aint had one for a while. Honestly.

Joe Fillipi – I expected better from you man – I would sell Hooper for £10M plus – and ONLY if ALL of the money was reinvested in the team – we do not need the money – we are not in debt to any real extent and have made more money this year than last with a lower wage bill.

Hooper is, by a country mile, the best striker we have. Stokes has done ok then we have…….errrrrrr…….then we have…….oh thats right we dont have any other strikers that score goals.

So sell Hooper and hope Stokes can keep scoring and doesnt get injured – what a sparkling good idea.

Now let me ask all you balance sheet worriers a question – what is the purpose of Celtic?

  23. JFH/excathedra

I’ve been critical of Hooper especially at points this season. However, I thing you’re both being overly harsh on his abilities. We need to add a striker at this stage not selling one especially one as good as him when he’s on song.

  24. I am glad that Neil Lennon runs our team and is on record tonight as having said he doesn’t want to sell any of HIS players and if he can add player in the positions he is looking for then he will do so…

Don’t believe the hype, keep the players, build the team, win the league, return to Europe with a team that compete, that’s what I think Neil Lennon is all about, restoring the name and reputation of Celtic.

    SP

  25. Selling Hooper for 6million would be silly.

Once we improve our service to our strikers then their goal tally will double.

The idea of selling a proven gmoalscorer in the hoops for someone unproven is ludicrous.
