Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.
Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler. An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.
The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward. Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner. Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession. Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.
Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.
The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas. Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.
James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out. Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.
Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.
Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes. Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.
Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

Agree 100%
I have 2 request’s
1) PL (who I have backed non stop) deals with the issue
2) NL is given the respect he desreves (given what he has been through)
I wrote yesterday that the club showed highlight the treartment of NL by SFA and Press is shaming Scotland – so he needs to stand down
Also the clun should pay his contract
BUY – we need to act our coaching team selection and tactics are very poor
One more thing I wrote on Thursday about how we would react if we got beat at Kilmarnock – I got dogs abuse
We are in trouble

I’d agree with much of that, although none of us expressed anything other than satisfaction when we saw Kayal’s name in the starting line-up. I won’t blame the manager for his performance – when you know how well he has played, it amounts to something of a betrayal.
Matthews should have started at RB, although strangely enough his play was one of the few positive aspects of the 1st half, and he dwindled in the 2nd – fatigue, perhaps. Cha? Never a RB , but in a 2nd half when he had less to do defensively, he looked dangerous on the right. There’s still hope for him at RM.
Big Vic 67 and Sons of Erin,
Completely agree – Celtic never looked like scoring until the free kick. The first 25 minutes of the second half were as uninspiring as the first half, so the comeback was definitely not down to an inspirational half time team talk.
It will be interesting to see the team selection for Thursday.
It might tell us if Neil sees what we see.

Agree with all of that big fella.
You could go further and mention the central midfield shape / line up.
On a separate subject – just seen the huns highlights.
Its worth a watch just to see the reaction of the few huns that were still in the stadium when St Mirren equalised.
Such an angry group of ‘peepil’
All the lenny must go brigade who will you replace him with? All this MON Paul Lambert talk is nonsense MON will never come back just read Matt Mcglone on that 1. I might be wrong but Lambo has already said he didn’t want it that might have been out of respect to norwich but I don’t know. I have never been 1 for giving the board abuse but think we could have been through possibly 3 managers if lenny does go ( I pray he doesn’t) and yet the people that employ them are still in a job maybe its time for a change elsewhere
Lenny a love ye

It will be interesting to see the team selection for Thursday.
The team/formation that finished at Killie should start in Rennes, we need to get away from 3, 4 and 5 changes per game.
——————Forster———————
Mathews Majstorovic Mulgrew El Kaddouri
—————-Wanyama——————–
———Ki——————–Ledley———
—————–Forrest———————–
———Bangura——-Stokes————–
Subs. Zaluska, Rogne, Cha, Kayal, Hooper, Commons, Samaras
Philbhoy- Hope you are well, Thursday is a good chance to blood some of the young players- 1 or 2 from Toshney, McGeough, Twardzik, George, Keatings – give them a chance to show themselves in an environment where losing is not a disaster (it is expected) and they may just do something.
And it lets the others know their jersey is not safe.
if Lenny is to remain in position he has to become ruthless, not petty but ruthless..
if it means sacking friends on the staff then so be it.. it is cleary not working at the moment..

El K canny play!

You are correct to point out that Lenny’s
1/2 time team talk had no effect on the first
20 mins of the second half.
We were in trouble in the match because
he had spoons trying to do the job’s of knives.
Mathews on the left was a disaster .
I support Lenny the man, but he is out of his depth.
If he cannot get us defensively organised,he will
be gone by Halloween.

forgot about that, Cha or Mark Wilson at left back then

Yes hope is within my range of emotions but not with this team. I’m afraid this leaderless squad are not up to the job and no amount of hope will change that. Although we have some poor players, they should be performing better than this. There is clearly something wrong behind the scenes and until that is addressed there is no point in bringing in any new players.

If a draw at Ibrox has made you day less dark then good for you. There are too many dark clouds over Celtic park to let light in. Nothing that happened at Ibrox will change any of the many problems we have.
Off to mass to pray for our ailing club amongst many things.

Depends on how many points they drop init? My point is the idea gaining momentum that they were incapable of dropping points took a dent today. Did you see the reaction when we pulled one goal back today?
Their dropping points might just be the equivalent or do you not do hope?
watching goals on Sunday, Dean Holdsworth(sp) looks like Hughie out of fun loving criminals…

Some posters also mentioned Tony Watt (?) yesterday for a start.
Any info on him?
Why not indeed.
No probs here, hope you are well too!

I understand your point, not sure about the individual you mentioned
Cant see a short term solution which means Neil not being manager or imposing some sort of elder statesman above his head without his agreement Neil is in situ with the unassailable mandate given to him by the nature of Scotlands shame which he has borne throughout his tenure as Celtic manager, it looks like we have to live with all the glaring and obvious deficiencies until Neil and his team can find some answers
As for Paul Le Guen yes he can be regarded as a failure, not sure all the blame he got was deserved, the overwhelming of evidence for success shows the European systems of operating the football side of the business is very successful
Malmo and Maribor management teams did well
goals always here

Wasnae sure if that was a statement of fact or an appraisal at first!!

I think there’s a time for giving youth a chance [J.Forrest has been our best player this season] but they need support from the experienced players in the squad.
Gosh, we were rubbish yesterday.
NL was a very lucky man. Lucky that the ref didn’t send off Kayal at the end of the first half. Lucky that Killie scored their 3 goals in the first half, not the second. Lucky that Stokes and Mulgrew (and one or two others) came up with the goods in the second half. Lucky that his team has such a great bunch of supporters.
We need more than luck.
On a brighter note, season 6 of Dexter has started well…
Thursday night could be the moment to bring back hoopslegend Zheng Zhi.
Assuming of course he is eligible.

I am not advocating NL’s time is up, – if I do have those thoughts I’d keep them to myself for the time being.
The Board have made their bed, we are all in it, and it’s not time to get up, until we have the men of vision who will not only appoint the correct Celtic manger but will have begun at least begun a search in the first place.
Onto the game yesterday we were Barcelona, and Kilmarnock were Kilmarnock, and until we have a coach that recognises that ‘the Celtic way’ with inferior players won’t work then there will be St Johnstone Kilmarnock Hearts and the infinitely superior Rangers team set up.
Yes, I’d have played Kayal today his petulance (which I’ve commented on before) leaves me and the vast support puzzled as to his future.
Hooper’s injury capability, weight and fitness, is a major worry, Bangura is much more than a bad haircut, and at the moment looks like a cross between Daryl Murphy and Marc Fortune.
Charlie Mulgrew ( the great white hope) playing centre back is an accident waiting to happen, because he thinks he’s Franz Beckenbauer and Dan Majstorovic is a lost cause, along with the lost causes on the bench (Loovens and Rogne) – Why were they even there?
Two supporting lightweight full backs bombing forward caught out of position by long balls, is embarrassing and shop stop.
All in all a shambles with yet another coach that can’t see the wood for the trees.
TT
I’m heading out but Matthews was far from a disaster at LB. He was, in fact our joint best performer in the first 45 and none of the goals conceded came down his side.
I agree that in the second half he was not as effective in attacking but he was from a disaster. Every player bar Matthews, Forrest & Forster were culpable in that first 45

Reid said this… Be careful what you wish for!
About us ridding ourselves of DD.
I’m afraid I agree…..
Yes there has been downsizing ..
On and off the park…
There is no money in the Scottish game whatsoever now and the revenue pools are shrinking.
He was correct about the game, be fearful as our game is dying a death…
Rankers could be first killie ?£10m hearts? £35m… Debt ridden whit no saleable assets.
We have our own wee council house on the same street as the rest of the SPL … Not having to go to cash convertors… Not having the bank say no…. Not hitting the pawn shops or loan sharks… Not worried about the cash machine laughing at user or finding out our credit card has exceeded it’s limit!!!!
No we know our bills are being paid
That there is food on the table
That we can go to the bank for a loan….
But the head of our house looks at the others around him and won’t buy that £20k kitchen or £15k bathroom or fill the house with picassos
It’s painful the now due to current circumstances but will get better !!
But I can see why our custodians won’t spend cash that we cannot repay or speculate on .
Tin hat on !!!!!!
Your right the corner shop books are reasonably healthy in this climate, but an astute and clever manager was needed
Pantaloon duck.
Lenny was unlucky that stokes missed his effort from 2 yards out.
Unlucky that mulgrew had a moment with the passback. Unlucky with injuries.
We`re Donald Ducked for defensive options for Thursday night.
Badr is ineligible and although Adam Matthews looks decent at right back, he`s not the same at left back, and gets turned too easily.
Mark Wilson always looks to me like a fish out of water at left back (a home game v Rangers a few seasons back and the half he played there against Sion spring to mind).
Charlie Mulgrew is not the greatest left back either and if he`s moved out left then its Glenn Loovens and Dan in the middle. Add Cha at right back to that defence and we`ll do well to get away with 0-3.
The Honest Mistake,
Its not bad luck that causes players deemed not good enough by Wolves and Southend United to make the same basic mistakes. Its a lack of ability that does that.

Pantaloon duck.

Good point.
For the 2nd game in a row whilst away from home there has been a clear chance for us to open the scoring at 0-0. By doing so we completely change the dynamic of the game.

Your post suggests you are 100% behind Neil.
Good man.
Je sues Neil Lennon.
I heard rumors that his hamstring transplant op went wrong. Rumor is they put the left hamstring in the right leg and vice versa. A few more months on the treatment table beckons.
A few on here have argued sensibly (but in my opinion emotionaly) that NL should be supported
I respect their view and to a degree I dont feel good about requesting a change of manager
However I am attempting to take away the emotion attached to NL (and he does deserve our sympathy)
BUT
We are not playing well
We look very weak at the back
One or Two key players are not performing (Commons/Kyal/Hooper)
We never dominate a game
And the main reason why we need to change
Other teams with a lot less player talent are getting the better of us
The reality is this
McCoist got the better of Lennon at Ibrox
The Sion manager got the better of Lennon home and away
The St Johnstone manager got the better of Lennon
and yesterday we got out of jail
We all know this but some refuse to accept the facts
I love Lennon – he has been treated very badly by SFA press and any not Celtic minded person
But that does not give him the qualifications to manage our club
67ECW
..and he was lucky it wasn’t the ole #9 enigma that didn’t miss from 2 yards.
