KT, medical advice, player hierarchy, being ready to make a deal

598

Let’s get the badge kisser-thing sorted once and for all.  We have seen enough of them come and go not to be taken in.  You can set your watch by them.  I don’t believe in a hierarchy of Celtic players, or supporters, based on proclaimed affinity.  You are at Celtic because you want to be here, fan or player, and that’s enough.

Kieran Tierney has been a highly paid and respected professional for four years.  He mixed with others of the same ilk, as well as some who know they are out of their depth at Celtic.  The latter cherish the term of their Celtic contract, the former all wonder what level they will be able to reach in the game.  All of them.  To the best of my knowledge, no Celtic player has rejected circa £75k per week to remain here.

I don’t know what his medical advice has been, but if you read about chronic osteitis pubis, you get an insight into where an athlete’s head may be when he has a persistent injury that is not responding as hoped.

Osteitis pubis is a painful degenerative condition of the pubic symphysis, surrounding soft tissues and tendons…. It is currently considered as one of the most debilitating pain syndromes for athletes. Although the condition is considered self-limiting, it often requires stoppage of sporting activities for several months, representing a significant problem especially for elite athletes.”

Kieran got this move coming off the worst season of his professional career.  We will see if things improve, or go downhill, this season.  Consider what advice his agent would have given him right now.  None of this forms part of the public discourse, instead we got a clumsy social media comment about being out with his pals while Celtic are playing a crucial qualifier.

If we are serious about making progress as a football club, we need to take our player trading onto another level.  That means everyone has a price and we should be ready with replacement options whenever a value offer arrives.

If you think selling your top player for £25m is a bad day at the office, imagine your challengers selling a single player for that sum, and how transformational this kind of money is.  Trading is as much a part of success in the elite game as tactics and fitness.  There are no sacred cows, because eventually, the most sublime talents perish.

We should always be ready to make a deal.  See how it is done in Portugal.  Or look at Ajax, who were going nowhere, then discovered how to trade, sold €72m of talent in 2016-17, €73m in 2017-18 and reached the Champions League semi-final in 2018-19.

Multi-treble winning Brendan Rodgers is not a talent spotter.  He added Scott Sinclair (whom he had worked with) and Moussa Dembele (a John Park recommendation) to Ronny Deila’s squad.  If we are going to spend significant sums of money this summer, better to have Neil Lennon with his hand on the tiller.

It felt like a bad day when Brendan left, but now I am sure it was for the best.  There is no telling the damage Brendan and Lee would do with this kind of money.  Kieran was great, the best left back in decades, and yes, he should have stayed for 10, but I’m already feeling pretty neutral about him leaving.

At Celtic, we love our history more than any others do, but football is all about tomorrow.  Time to get busy writing the next chapter.

  1. To be fair to wee Paddy Roberts he has a great seat at Anfield as his teammates are being mauled by Liverpool. Testing himself at the highest, I just can’t see it. Another Gary Hooper, the English game will chew him up and spit him out.

  3. when all is said and done, Kieran’s £25m should guarantee 10 in a row. Anything else is negligence IMHO of course

Scullybhoy -KT has been with Celtic since he was 7🤔

    He is 22 now🤔

How long you been in your current job

  5. Kenny Miller achieves the Glesca grand slam.

He’s now played for Rangers, Celtic, Sevco and Partick Thistle.

  6. IMHO the 9 is being gambled on . Lose this league and it really does let them back . Now if that scenario happens , who will be to blame , another failure to reach the CL group stage and the loss of 30 to 40 million who will be to blame . We have a great opportunity to achieve the big boys table , why don’t we go for it , why are we not strong enough to give us the best chance of attaining that , who is holding us back , What is holding us back , lack of money , wouldn’t think so . It doesn’t stop other teams . Does our manager think we have enough to do the job as it stands , definitely don’t think he does . So who / what is holding him back , why isn’t he strengthening where we are weak , does he not know where we need improvement , I think he knows alright ,so why is our manager not proceeding with seeking out much needed quality for the team , what is keeping him back , could someone , something in the background be hindering the clubs

improvement , surely no celtic man would do that , we all want the best for our club , do we not .

  7. oh for players that attack the ball with conviction when heading the ball in the opposition box , not the mamby pamby efforts we are used to watching.

not sure that even winning the league makes them viable as a business. In and of itself, that doen’st bring in enough money … …. did they not just recently convert more debt to equity? they cant keep doing that ….they need to sell a few players each season… and qulailfy for the CL for a season or two to get out of the hole they are in …. otherwise, they cant keep on as a going concern ….

I get that we dont want to end up where the zombies were… but that was never going to happen … but, we didn’t seize the time they were away to step up and try to really make a mark on Europe … (I know that spending money is no guarantee of success … but, then why ever time we get humped by Barca 12-1, do people on here say ‘but we cant compete with them financially?’ …

but you look at how we have invested/not invested… and combine that with what we know about Celtic’s approach to governance over the last seven years, and the only scenario that makes sense of it all is that our Board decided that, financially, we needed the zombies to be competitive…. which means either they improved to catch up with us… or we not get too far ahead of them …

If we qualify for the Champions League this season we are on for a £120m Turnover. Yet we are sitting here worrying about jack Hendry getting punted before we buy

I think you need to cheer up and stop tormenting yourself by asking less questions. We are in pole position to qualify for the CL play offs. We have dispatched Sarajevo and Nomme Kalju with aplomb and we outplayed Cluj in Rumania. We have scored 20 and conceded 3 so far this season. Stop nit picking and get behind Lenny and the Bhoys. I fully expect us to beat Motherwell as well if we play to our ability.

Thought this was amusing on another Celtic website. If we didn’t need to sell KT why have we not got £25m to spend, especially as it was all upfront (as per stock exchange announcement)

Surely the tongue in cheek brigade will have an answer, they always come up with great reasons / excuses for NOT spending money

But the blog is probably far better with all, even with the raging Hun interlopers who yet again are bhoyant in early August for the 9th season in a row … everyone anyone :-)

Give yourself peace, celtic fc are not celtic boys clubs. Celtic fc never had any legal connection to celtic boys club. celtic fc picked up players from celtic boys club and also allowed the boys club to use the name celtic. Celtic also picked up players from other clubs.

People are talking about moral duty etc… because they know there is no legal duty because celtic boys club is not and never was celtic fc despite all the bluster.

The truth is simple, the guys who abused the kids are in prison and the victims are entitled to compensation from the criminal injuries board just like any other victims of a crime. If any organisation sound pay up it would be Celtic boys club, but what would be the point? No money there. Thing to link celtic fc with the boys club and trying to show a legal link will be very tricky because there was never a link and the law is not interested in percetion or someones belief about who they played for.

To put it another way celtic fc currently operate an academy for kids aged 5 to 15 and that academy is celtic fc’s legal responsibility, hiring, firing, discipline etc… There are many other celtic boys clubs all over the shop. celtic fc are not legally responsible for any of them.

  16. Mike in Toronto,

In hindsight, I do not think Scottish soceity would have let the huns truely die. We are where we are and we must plan for the future.

Many of us are raging, however while not forgetting the past, we must move on . We cannot let it eat away at us. BR understood that. I hope NFL does too.

As for NFL’s body language. We can all remember the negative interview Neil gave after our 2-0 defeat at Grayskull.

Everybody on here stated he has not got the job. How did that turn out.?

    Cheers and HH.

    ……………………..

So you are saying that Jozo’s efforts against Killie and Aberdeen did not count as attacking the ball with conviction. What about Kris Ajer’s headed goal last week? Was that not headed with conviction either? Maybe we must score every week with headers from set pieces or maybe you just like bumping your gums …………. with no conviction.

Liverpool won’t win the league . I think even KT’s Arsenal (breaks my heart to say that) might finish above them.
