KT SWITCHES FOCUS TO EUROPA LEAGUE

KIERAN TIERNEY has enjoyed the past two seasons performing against the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

However, Celtic failed to make it a hat-trick of appearances in the elite competition when they lost out to Greek outfit AEK Athens, thrashed 3-0 by Ajax in Amsterdam last night, in the third qualifying round.

Now, though, the 21-year-old Scotland international defender will switch his attention to old foes Rosenborg in the Europa League Group B encounter at Parkhead this evening.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are involved in a highly-competitive section along with the Norwegian champions, Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Austrian cracks RB Salzburg. And fans’ favourite KT can’t wait to get started.

He said: “The Europa League is another great tournament. It’s a huge honour to represent Celtic at it, as well. I’m grateful for the chances I’ve got here, so if I can play tonight then that’s brilliant.

“Another tough test for us. Every game’s hard, home and away, and this will be no different.

“The aim is always progression. We would like to go through, of course. Our target is to win all our home games and pick up what we can away.

“We know what we’re in for. We’ve played them four times over the past couple of seasons and did our video analysis, as well. I’m sure they have, too, so it’ll be a tough game.”

The Hoops overcame the Trondheim outfit 3-1 in July and secured a goalless draw away from home to get through their second qualifier this term. And a goal from James Forrest in Norway handed them a 1-0 aggregate victory in the previous campaign.
