Lagerbielke and the Jack Hendry model

120

There will be plenty of regret in some quarters if Gustaf Lagerbielke leaves this month, with a loan looking likely.  You and I have seen far worse in the Celtic central defence over the years, but the mind of the manager appears to have been made up and his is not short of competitive options in that area.

With a squad as big as we have, hard decisions need to be made.  Just as we discussed with Adam Montgomery earlier in the week, the financials on how a fringe player leaves the club go a long way to determining how successful we will be.

Think Benfica, who made plenty from Jota and could do the same from Paulo Bernardo, despite neither making the cut in Lisbon.   We paid £3m for Gustaf.  Serie A has been a league where former Scottish Premiership players appreciate in value.  A loan at any of the three clubs reportedly interested in him could have the same effect Jack Hendry’s loan to Oostende had for a central defender who suffered significantly worse critical appraisal than Gus.

  1. Thanks guys, I do remember he had a bit of a strangle hold over the players…..

He had them playing fantastic football and gave us (Scotland) some Terrific players.

Maybe had a bit of the Alex Ferguson in him.

    Thanks for the replies 👍

  2. IMO McLean’s Dundee United team was better than SAF Aberdeen team of that time,it was probably the first time I noticed a team who had been properly coached, when a player had the ball,he had 4 or 5 options, and another 4 or 5 would make a move to a certain area of the pitch,to be fair both of them turned down the huns job back then.

  3. Was hoping MacKenzie Carse might get a bit of game time along with Frame on Sunday, alas he’s off to Queens Park on loan…..

    Good luck kid, enjoy 👍

  6. Still only two cash transfers this window in SPFL and EPL.Ourselves and Spurs.Evidence of what I have been banging on about since the window opened. This is a terrible window for buying clubs. The EPL,for instance, you could name a load of clubs who desperately need a proven striker, for differing reasons, survival, saving the managers job, trying for a Euro place. Not a penny spent. For a reason.Nothing to do with clubs,Boards being miserable.,just a dearth of real quality up for grabs.

  7. TB,- she went to Whitehill Secondary in Dennistoun,if I ever met her I would get lifted, treated my son worse than a dog when he was in his first job in Debenhams Silverburn, fingers crossed both get jailed.

Alas, the stuff on Youtube doesn’t do ‘Dust’ justice. It’s much better on vinyl (which of course I no longer have as I gave away all my records 🤔).

Absolutely. McLean wasn’t to everyone’s taste but what a football manager. He took a provincial club to one Euro final and he would have made the EC Final had his team not been cheated. His on-air right hook to the Beeb’s Barnes earned him love and respect across Scotland

  13. 31003,

Not a bad negotiator either.Made the Huns stump up £ 6 million, for Drunken Duncan.

    —-

im 50-50 on which of those 2 teams were better, they were both terrific sides so couldnt split them.

but i 100% agree with the comment about that fud Barnes.

  15. I liked Dundee uniteds original strip, should’ve had black shorts like my primary the Germany strip.

The change to the tangerine strip was a great move (iconic).

  16. I’m working from a daft old faded memory here, but did Dundee United once play in an Arsenal type second stirp?

  17. I will level you with a wee snippet from FF,think it highlights the madness, and the fawning subservience of the scum

“Just noticed that Jim White, the Rhat, will be hosting the night in the Armadillo.I was going, because of the brilliant line up,Souness,a few more great guests, and,MR. CLEMENTS.Not now.

Why they let a TIM host these nights is a mystery”

Can you honestly imagine anyone on here, calling Brendan,” Mr Rodgers”its still Sir Walter.Creepy ass kissers.

I wouldn’t rely on my recollection.

I may have just seen them a few times and it might have been an away strip but I remember (as a kid) seeing the tangerine strip for the first time about 66/67 ish 🤔

    Probably way off the mark.

  19. Michelle Mone converted to Catholicism when she married her first husband ( circa 18 years old )
