Lagerbielke and the Jack Hendry model

120

There will be plenty of regret in some quarters if Gustaf Lagerbielke leaves this month, with a loan looking likely.  You and I have seen far worse in the Celtic central defence over the years, but the mind of the manager appears to have been made up and his is not short of competitive options in that area.

With a squad as big as we have, hard decisions need to be made.  Just as we discussed with Adam Montgomery earlier in the week, the financials on how a fringe player leaves the club go a long way to determining how successful we will be.

Think Benfica, who made plenty from Jota and could do the same from Paulo Bernardo, despite neither making the cut in Lisbon.   We paid £3m for Gustaf.  Serie A has been a league where former Scottish Premiership players appreciate in value.  A loan at any of the three clubs reportedly interested in him could have the same effect Jack Hendry’s loan to Oostende had for a central defender who suffered significantly worse critical appraisal than Gus.

I may have just seen them a few times and it might have been an away strip but I remember (as a kid) seeing the tangerine strip for the first time about 66/67 ish 🤔

    Probably way off the mark.

Did McLean of Dundee United not start the trend back in 80s/99s.

Yup JimMacChains oops sorry Maclean 8,10& rumoured 12 year contracts, same dosh last year as first, loaded up the bonus on success tho,Bosman came in and ended it,contracts akin to victorian chimney sweeps

*aye and as soon as that happened one of the architects of the scheme, naesurname, moved in and grabbed a couple of them.

I liked Dundee uniteds original strip, should’ve had black shorts like my primary the Germany strip.

The change to the tangerine strip was a great move (iconic).

*former hun player and coach jerry kerr made the change he said his wife like the colours. she probably reckoned they were “fine”

Talking about the cardigan stealing the players, was it not he who was in charge of the huns and hijacked our deal for Gordon Petrec the big centre half

  7. Watching the BBC News,on the strikes in N Ireland.,,”Over to our reporter in Londonderry”.They just cant help themselves.Seems impossible for anyone to blame the DUP,tiptoe around it,although the reporter from their tried his best to.Sack for him.We see it here with all and sundry bending over backwards,in every situation,to appease these scum, but you know your really up against it,when,Government,Media, from England join in.

  8. I will feel a bit of regret if Lagerbielke goes,i hope if he does it is on loan and that he stays with us long term, but the clout and the power today i feel are with the player with the length of contract being a return for the club in todays asset management of players.

I agree P67 he is not the worst Central defender we have signed, last summer when looking at potential central defenders via scouting reports both Lagerbielke and Nawrocki were in the top 10.

It peeves me he doea not appear to fit our mangers plans, murmurs and mumbles about pace seem to have grown while Lagerbielke has not been playing.Nawrocki has had some mumbles about training attitude but he has also had niggling injuries until year end

So i would go with hope for the 2 of them, rationalization of our squad can be made in otber areas, wings, midfielders.

Its a tough gig this buyin n sellin of footballers.

Dundee utd’s home change strip in 66-67 was all black, basically a reverse of their normal strip.

I think the tangerine strip came in late 60s./ early 70s with tangerine top and shorts. Later on, they changed shorts to black.

  20. My friends in Celtic,

My position is clear about letting any huns back into Parkhead. I have outlined the negatives on numerous occasions. ( One of which has just been highlighted ).

    Yet this discussion goes on.

    Why ?

Does anyone have anything positive to say about letting them back in ?

    Anything ?
