Legia less appealing, Man City under-grad

1542

Surprised we got two in yesterday, as Manchester City under-grad, Jason Denayer, signed for a year-long loan last night.  The 19-year-old has yet to play first team football so is likely to be considered as backup at Celtic, though reports are promising.

Not surprised that Legia Warsaw have lodged an appeal to Uefa to be re-instated into the Champions League, they have to try everything possible.  It has not been confirmed what ground Legia have appealed on, however, at the weekend, Polish FA chief exec, Zbigniew Boniek, suggested an appeal would be made on two grounds:

That only one member of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body was at the hearing to made the decision, and

That Legia were not given the chance to make a submission to the Body.

There are 10 members of the Disciplinary Body and rules state that decisions require the attendance of at least three, unless the case is “urgent”, when a decision can be taken by one member.  To defend their process, Uefa need to insist that the circumstances were urgent, probably citing the Champions League play-off draw, which was due to take place two hours later.

While the Disciplinary Body allow submissions to be made prior to a hearing, Article 34 authorises the Body to undertake a hearing without submissions and “in the absence of one or all of the parties”.

In the unlikely event Legia won an appeal on procedural grounds, a subsequent hearing, perhaps with more Disciplinary Body members in attendance, would take place, and would inevitably reach the same conclusion.

Article 21, paragraph 2, of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations state, “A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.”  There is no ambiguity or lateral for the Disciplinary Body to exercise a different reprimand.

Legia’s appeals can carry on all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Celtic will not be involved in any future issues.  NK Maribor represent a vastly, vastly, greater risk to their Champions League aspirations.

Raberto67. Good for you fella as you say sometimes people dont read a post properly before they jump all over the poster.I never take it personaly I have a point of view someone has another so we beg to differ its the way of the world.H.H.

    ———

Joe I’ve no desire to enter into an argument as like R67 your posts are always worth reading despite the fact that I often find myself disagreeing with them.

However, I do think that you should take your own advice judging by your post above. Your questioning of whether Tiny Tim was ‘really a Celtic supporter’ the other day was one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read on here.

Sadly too frequently on CQN these days anything questioning of club policy is met with accusations of being a Hun or asking whether the poster is a genuine Tim.

    Yours in Celtic.

BCW. Thats my slant on it if you disagree with something I post and you post your point of view the chances of either of us changing our point of view is very slim indeed.I will not start name calling another Celtic fan so I just accept we see it differently. H.H.

  12. We as a club are the benefactors of a rule that has been in place for years, nothing more nothing less. There is no moral issue for us as a club that I can see.

This is an issue for Legia and them alone, do your job properly, no issue.

There are many a men (and woman a suppose) would love to have a law changed due to a stupid mistake, that’s life, deal with it.

With the team in transition (again) the only morals I want to see from the custodians is free entry for season ticket holders and £10 tickets for the home leg against Maribor.

I think we can all agree that a full stadium can be as good as an extra player.

  15. Club have stated all along that its a matter for UEFA. If UEFA for whatever reason decide to change the decision we would need to abide by that ruling, just as we have so far.

If club change their stance it would be hypocritical.

Just like some of greatest fans in the world are.

Wee bit off topic – looking for any advice on smart TVs. Trying to decide between a Samsung 40″ (ue40f5300, around £400 but need to buy wi-fi adapter for £31) or a Panasonic 42″ (AS500b, down from £480 to £370 with built in wi-fi and built in web browser, whatever that means).

It would appear from interveiws given today that Ronny did indeed sanction the loan signings of both Tonev and Denayer. I have to admit at being a little surprised when I heard him being interviewed and listening to his reasons for wanting both players.

As a result I fnd myself slightly embarassed as I honestly thought both players were foisted on to Ronny by JP and PL. So apologies Ronny as it appears you really are your own man and do have a say in who we bring in.

On another point I still think it will take time for Ronny to get the right mix of new signings together with exsisting players before we can really start to judge him and John C as a management team. I for one am still prepared to give them that time as I really believe we needed a new approach in terms of tactics and coaching.

While we may not hit the ground running tommorow night, I believe we have the quality to overcome St J but suspect it may not be to prity, with little or any silky play on show.

Dundee Utd should provide an entertaining and altogether more compeditive encounter this comming weekend.

As far as Europe is concerned my expectations aren’t to high though tbh we should, on paper at least, have more quality than Maribor. I just hope our league games beforehand give us enough time to come together as a new team and begin to play at least some of Ronny’s much vaunted high tempo game.

I really want this to be a season that defines us and gives us all encouragement that even without money that other leagues have we can still offer a challenge in Europe from time to time. I know expecting to win against the likes of Barca is stupid but at least give us the opportunity to dream that at home we can give them the fright of their lives.
