Legia less appealing, Man City under-grad

1542

Surprised we got two in yesterday, as Manchester City under-grad, Jason Denayer, signed for a year-long loan last night.  The 19-year-old has yet to play first team football so is likely to be considered as backup at Celtic, though reports are promising.

Not surprised that Legia Warsaw have lodged an appeal to Uefa to be re-instated into the Champions League, they have to try everything possible.  It has not been confirmed what ground Legia have appealed on, however, at the weekend, Polish FA chief exec, Zbigniew Boniek, suggested an appeal would be made on two grounds:

That only one member of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body was at the hearing to made the decision, and

That Legia were not given the chance to make a submission to the Body.

There are 10 members of the Disciplinary Body and rules state that decisions require the attendance of at least three, unless the case is “urgent”, when a decision can be taken by one member.  To defend their process, Uefa need to insist that the circumstances were urgent, probably citing the Champions League play-off draw, which was due to take place two hours later.

While the Disciplinary Body allow submissions to be made prior to a hearing, Article 34 authorises the Body to undertake a hearing without submissions and “in the absence of one or all of the parties”.

In the unlikely event Legia won an appeal on procedural grounds, a subsequent hearing, perhaps with more Disciplinary Body members in attendance, would take place, and would inevitably reach the same conclusion.

Article 21, paragraph 2, of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations state, “A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.”  There is no ambiguity or lateral for the Disciplinary Body to exercise a different reprimand.

Legia’s appeals can carry on all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Celtic will not be involved in any future issues.  NK Maribor represent a vastly, vastly, greater risk to their Champions League aspirations.

I know it sounds awful like they were/are cheating but why?

They had the tie well and truly won long before they brought the player in question onto the park. They could have played out the game with 8 men at that point and still won the tie.

(Mind you that was before Celtic brought on super-sub, Declan. What a player he is!)

Legia’s stupidity has to rank right up there with the Sevconians.

Boniek says ; Celtic not guilty,BUT if they were more ethical or moral…………..

“Could Celtic have behaved differently? I know what I would have done but 95 per cent of clubs are not willing to give up such an opportunity.

“I played in a European Cup Final where 38 people were killed and I was the only player who gave my $100,000 win bonus to the families of the victims but everyone has a different mentality.

In all probability,it would not be possible for Celtic to “gift” the tie to Legia.

Probably against the rules of the comp.

Strikes me that The Record has realised that Legia have no chance of winning, and would rather be on the winning side for a change.

Not much point in further alienating the few Tims who still read it.

They knew is all I’m saying and still didn’t act on it. I am certain they didn’t mean to cheat. Like you said “WHY?”

My main gripe with this is to call us out as the ones in the wrong when they were told before hand that this could be a problem. This action alone beggars belief and for one am extremely angry that they pursued this agenda.

Our reputation has taken a beating over this for nothing. I have read on numerous notice boards how other clubs (Not just in Scotland or Poland) have labelled us a disgrace etc. I take this personally and really saddens me to read such words. Heartbreaking in fact.

The other thing is what is the stars says Ronny will lose these 2 games but we will them comfortably. We got to keep the faith, just like we all need to pray for the Palestinian victims of this horrific conflict, and the Israeli soldiers too whose fascist government’s genocide of a nation has put them in harms way.If Israel soldiers choose peace their would be peace, their is only one aggressor in this conflict.

  9. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    JUSTICEFORRAMALLAH

Israel have been guilty of a horrendous over-reaction to events over the last month.

But you are very wrong indeed to say that there is only one aggressor in this conflict.

Don’t go poking a tiger wi a stick.

The Palestinians in Gaza have many righteous grievances, but lobbing missiles, however futile,is not the way to resolve them.

  10. Personally I am really looking forward to tomorrow’s game at Perth.

Let’s give RonnyD a chance to show us what he is striving for from our present squad.

I said a wee while ago, and it wasn’t an original thought, that we should be looking for a run in the Europa this season to ensure we get a chance to built a post Neil side which passes and runs and closes down the opposition in packs.

Tomorrow should let us know which players have embraced the new fitness and tactical regime.

    I predict a solid 4-0 victory.

I know it’s a wee bit cautious for me as I would usually go for 5-0 in Perth. ;-)

  11. Justiceforramallah

You are showing an extraordinary ignorance of the facts.

Lobbing rockets, no matter how inaccurate, is an act of aggression.

  12. Helmski Bhoy:

All the more reason that once this is finally decided, no matter what the final outcome, Celtic should issue a formal statement admonishing every group which has sought to besmirch Celtic’s good name. Legia Warsaw in particular should be slammed for it’s actions. They are wholly, 100% at fault and every attempt to garner sympathy and deflect blame should be roundly condemned.

IMHO, UEFA should stand by their rules and further, punish Legia for their actions after these events came to light.

Their initial actions may be due to incompetence. Their actions since are calculated and malicious.

  13. I know we like to keep our signings close to our chests but has anyone any idea who our “Wildcard” signing could be? And does anyone think that this “wildcard” is just anxiously waiting on the wings for CL qualification?

If reports are accurate the 3.5m upwards is not really getting the ole blood pressure on the rise.

In my pre teen years, Big B was the local bully. I won’t mention his name because he is a loveable guy now who sells the Celtic pools around the village and someone may know him.

Anyway I suffered a few beatings from him as he was bigger and heavier than me and once he got you down on the ground you just had to take your licks.

These spats usually occurred during a game because you had beaten him in a tackle, made him look silly with a nifty dribble, or ignored a pass to him when he wanted the ball in a scoring position.

I learned quickly to respect B and not to cause him trouble.

So we came to a respectful understanding and I never threw stones or insults at him and he didn’t beat me up, too often.

Makes you wonder why they put him on, someone said a few days ago that it was to cup tie him as it put other teams off signing him.

This whole affair just gets weirder

  22. Eyes Wide Open on

See the guy you could cynically say the board have told Deila to try and convince us we have landed a £10m player on loan, is a centre half shorter than efe ambrose – possibly narrower too

    Well suited to the SPL

  23. Eyes Wide Open on

There have been roughly 110 players bought by EPL clubs this summer – including players moving between clubs – enough to fill 10 teams.

We are repeatedly told we cant compete with EPL wages.

In UK, European and / or global terms what % chance does a player have of actually reaching such riches?

Not as high as they would have you believe.

  25. Really looking forward to going to support my team at the cup holders stadium for the first league game of the season.

It will be a tough tie against a team who have had 5 very competitive games already and who have mostly the same squad ( one major exception) and manager as last year.

In most other league this would be a kinda Super Cup between cup and league winners.

Hopefully our new team and new coach can begin to gel their style and produce a performance we need.

So glad it it an away game where the supporters tend to support the team more and not abuse every error.

1 nil would suit me fine.
