Low conversion rate since Killie

448

If you are a Celtic fan with a persistent need to worry about something, the sight of so many chances being missed in each of the last two weekends will occupy your mind. The game at Pittodrie was indistinguishable from the game at Inverness (our only domestic game which didn’t end in a win), save from the last minute chance which Inverness equalised with and Aberdeen were unable to convert.

We played five games in October, scoring more than once on only two occasions, when we hit two against Motherwell and caught Ross County with a late onslaught. For a squad with the best two strikers in the country this is a conundrum.

Statistical consistency is not to be expected, of course, teams and players will go through barren and plentiful patches, but since we destroyed Kilmarnock last month, Dundee, Motherwell, Newco, Ross County and Aberdeen have all found ways to defend against Celtic for long periods.

Tomorrow night’s Champions League game stands alone, but we might need to change the pattern of play for the visit of Inverness on Saturday.

You may be closer than me to the team; I’m not sure he will drop Rogic or Forrest. Squeezing a midfield 5 in could very well make the difference with Forrest, Rogic and Sinclair breaking would cause them problems. My only concern is that with a lone striker against their back 3 or 4 will give Vestergaard room to step into midfield which he did very effectively in the first game!

As for Jozo, Kolo and Griff, only one of the 3 would have started (probably Kolo) so the starting 11 isn’t substantially weakened, but our option to change it will be. This will be the nadir for Cifcti if he doesn’t get on the bench tonight!

I agree with you about Armstrong’s forward movement; that’s why I would play him and Bitton to start, introducing Rogic later.

The space in behind is why I would play Roberts as opposed to Forrest – he is faster than Forrest and I fancy will get a few free-kicks with his direct running at the German Team

Sorry, did you just say Paddy Roberts is faster than James Forrest?

Did you mean mentally? Quicker thinking? Was that it?

  8. We will get pumped tonight unless we try something or somebody different.

Forest has done hee haw in his last few games.

What difference did he really make in our last 2 epic 1-0 victories against a physical Dons side and a piss poor huns team?

Armstrong for me any day over Bitton.

He is improving with every game and offers much more than Bitton.

We will need his energy in the middle of the park and pushing forward.

    IMO of course.

The legislation was intended to target Celtic fans.

The huns behaviour (songs, chants, banners) fell foul of existing anti sectarianism legislation.

Celtic fans behaviour didn’t. It was deemed to be political rather than sectarian.

That stuck in the craws of the nationalists, so they did something about it, to even up the score.

No surprise in that. It’s entirely in keeping with the history and traditions of Scottish nationalism.

Whether anyone learns the wider lessons of the matter is open to doubt.

Btw, Its augur, not auger. An auger is a tool for boring.

Why play Sinclair and another winger?

    Brown,Bitton,Armstrong.

Just in front,Sinclair and Rogic backing up Dembele.

  14. Morning all,

Firstly, thanks for all the good wishes and lifestyle advice yesterday on the first day of my retirement. I’ll print it off and keep it safe (from the wife!)

I thoroughly enjoyed the day up to coming on here later and finding that we’re going to be very short defensively tonight. I was hoping for a miracle – 3 points – but I’ve managed my expectations down to 1 now. And that is going to be a very big ask.

I spent about 3 hours in the garden yesterday just pottering around and was planning the same today. Until I found this note in the kitchen.

    It says:

    todays chores (AM)

it then lists 18 chores including: hang out washing/ refill washing machine and press start button/ iron clothes in basket/ clean all windows/ Hoover carpets/ do weekly shopping.

i recognise all the individual words but can’t work out the meaning.

Oddly, despite the fact Mrs BBs initials are MD she’s signed it PTO.

I’m getting a horrible feeling that this retirement lark may not be the cushy wee number that I had anticipated!

Well, I better go. These windows are not going to clean themselves.

All going well I’ll be finished in time to be allowed to watch the game tonight.

And to think that only yesterday I was thinking how strange it was to no longer have a boss!

  15. OK, so with BMG’s strip being mostly white we will be in away kits. With their thick black stripes on their home tops does that rule out our black kit? Are we getting a first run out in the pink?

  22. Good grief. I’m not going to be getting into some namby pamby argument over the colour of the mighty Celtic’s 3rd/European kit.

However I’d say it’s more on the cerise side of magenta, with the subtle two tone effect bringing out the best of two shades that are just so on point for Autumn 2016.
