Low conversion rate since Killie

448

If you are a Celtic fan with a persistent need to worry about something, the sight of so many chances being missed in each of the last two weekends will occupy your mind. The game at Pittodrie was indistinguishable from the game at Inverness (our only domestic game which didn’t end in a win), save from the last minute chance which Inverness equalised with and Aberdeen were unable to convert.

We played five games in October, scoring more than once on only two occasions, when we hit two against Motherwell and caught Ross County with a late onslaught. For a squad with the best two strikers in the country this is a conundrum.

Statistical consistency is not to be expected, of course, teams and players will go through barren and plentiful patches, but since we destroyed Kilmarnock last month, Dundee, Motherwell, Newco, Ross County and Aberdeen have all found ways to defend against Celtic for long periods.

Tomorrow night’s Champions League game stands alone, but we might need to change the pattern of play for the visit of Inverness on Saturday.

  15. So how will it go tonight?

I expect Gordon in goal, so no surprises there. With the injury to Toure and Jozo not being risked because of his long term injury problems (BR’s words, not mine), I expect a backline of Gamboa, Lustig, Sviatchenko and Izzy. This is an experienced backline so we shouldn’t be overly worried I don’t think. A lot has been made of Gamoba’s performance against Barcelona, but if we are honest, the whole team was poor and to single him out is unfair. He certainly has pace and has played in big games at the World Cup before so the occasion shouldn’t phase him. Lustig and Sviatchenko are probably as solid as we could go in the middle due to the circumstances; some feel that Hahn is a physical presence we may have to face but I’m sure Mikael and Erik are up to a physical challenge! Izzy has been over the course many times before so we know we will get a solid performance there.

The middle 3 are the most important tonight I think; in my view, this is where the game will be won or lost. Brown is an obvious starter. However, for the remaining 2 places we can choose from Bitton, Armstrong, McGregor and Rogic. Clearly Rogic is the most talented of the 4 but there is an argument to say that he may be better coming off the bench after 60 minutes to influence the game from there. That would leave, in my opinion, Bitton and Armstrong to provide a more solid middle 3 with Brown. I know many on here aren’t Bitton fans; I am. I think he brings a lot to the team and when on form is a key player in the middle; he can link up well between defence and attack and has had a lot of the ball I European games this season. I often think that Scott Brown plays better with Bitton in the team: he seems to get further forward when Bitton drops in behind him. Armstrong will add a bit more drive and be more direct than Tom Rogic and this may suit us against A German Team. If Armstrong can stop Vestergaard from pushing out of defence as he did in the last game that will make a massive difference!

The front 3 will be Sinclair, Dembele and Forrest or Roberts. Tonight I would start with Roberts and trust the midfield and defence to tighten up behind him because he doesn’t offer as much as James Forrest when we don’t have the ball. However, if we play him we can (hopefully) use his talent to make sure we have more of the ball. If Roberts and Sinclair are on song we have more than a decent chance to get a result tonight! Moussa Dembele has to make his physical presence felt tonight and give their 2 centre backs more of a problem than he did at Celtic Park; he is more than capable of that and I take him to get at least 1 tonight.

The reality is that it’s pretty much a “free” chance tonight. We aren’t expected to get much from the game after the result in Glasgow. There is very little expectation that we will come anywhere other than 4th in the Group. That means the pressure is off so maybe the players can be a bit more relaxed and enjoy the occasion and the game. Any victory would be great; winning by 2 would be massive as it would probably put as in front in terms of the “head-to-head” with Gladbach. If we do that, then anything is possible in the last 2 games!

However, I don’t get paid £45K a week to set up the team, Brendan Rodgers does and will probably disagree with me!

Prediction? Something like 3-2 or 4-3 to the ‘Tic! 3-1 would be awesome!

    Hail Hail fella.

Well done on the 71% stuff, connected to the OBAF thingy.

    But, ye know what…..?

I think that the ‘entire’ campaign was a long road for a short cut.

Ah mean, Celtic PLC, virtually rubber stamped the ACT with they’re duplicity along with Paul McBride who was, on one hand, publicly calling out the sectarian driven agenda from the SFA vs Neil Lennon and, about the sectarian history of this country etc,….blah, blah….

Then, on the other hand,….he was in alliance with Campbell Corrigan’s crusade, based on the ACT to, smash the marxist Green Brigade !?!?!?

Peter Lawwell, Paul McBride and Campbell Corrigan, summoned the Green Brigade to Celtic Park for a meeting aimed at addressing the sectarian singing at Celtic Park ?!?!?

The Green Brigade did what Celtic FC should have done when they were summoned to a, Govt Summit for having 3 players booked at the shame-game….The Green Brigade told them to ramm They’re meeting at Celtic Park !!!

Ah mean,….to my thinking,…the Green Brigade were the only group to emerge from the above circus of the self appointed kangaroo court exponents, with they’re dignity and credit intact….imho.

Ye see, if,….the entire Celtic support took the Green Brigade route and told Celtic FC…”Look, you have agreed to an ACT which ultimately, is designed to criminalize your paying public so,….here’s what were gonna do….not one Celtic supporter will renew they’re season books until Celtic PLC un-fix this ACT and make Celtic Park a place were, Celtic supporters can attend to watch they’re football and, provide the support for the team on the pitch, without fear of being branded a criminal.”

Now,….if the Celtic support had grabbed the club by the balls….how long do you think the ACT would have been in place ?

Ye see, the Celtic PLC-Hierarchy new that they could lend they’re weight to the moves to make the ACT, the law because, they knew that the Celtic support were / are toothless.

Ye see, to the PLC-Hierarchy,….ye can send all the petitions that ye want but, ye know what….they don’t care.

They don’t give a flying monkeys, how many Celtic supporters get criminal records…..coz they’ve got yer money.

    That’s all they want.

The cops could have errected the gallows on the Celtic Way and held weekly hangings of ‘guilty’ Celtic supporters who sang dodgy songs and ye know what…?…The PLC-Hierarchy would probably open the boardroom windows above the front entrance and cheer at the demise of each supporter….imho.

Point is, the Celtic support have barked up the wrong tree on this issue about the ACT since day one.

Ah mean, the PLC-Hierarchy – sold you out !

And what did Celtic supporters do about it ?

    Hee-haw…that’s what they did!

Filling out petitions will never hurt the board who sold you out.

Not renewing yer season books will.

    But, ye know what else….?

Celtic supporters sent out the message last season that, there could be upwards of 30,000 empty seats in the stadium this season.

That threat came about through apathy, not because Celtic supporters were showing cojones because, the PLC-Hierarchy know that the Celtic support have ‘no’ cojones.

To conclude….what do ye think the Jungle would have done to the Kelly’s & White’s if they had, secretly, sneakily, cliquelly sold Celtic’s soul to the establishment by rubber stamping an ACT that would announce open season for the bigoted cops….on Celtic supporters ?

There would have been bhoycotts to end all bhoycotts.

The Kelly’s & White’s would have been chased down London road by thousands of green & white zulu’s oot the Jungle.

I know that things are different now than, they were in the Jungle days but….the board knew that the Jungle – if sparked – would have gone for the throat.

Nowadays….Celtic supporters are easily gulled by, ice cream and jelly and squirrels.

For 4 years we’ve been told that the huns are on the verge…..?

    On the verge of what….?

Some Celtic supporters of today are even gulled by the idea that, we’ve won the war vs all the huns / establishments cheating because….Celtic FC don’t mention the words – Old Firm ????

Ah mean, as soon as the huns were taken out of our league, PL was on the plane down to London to negotiate a new tv-deal designed to drip-feed the huns, to keep them alive, as they entered div 3 ?????

    Why ????

Why did Celtic FC not threaten to leave the game if, the huns were allowed back into any level of football without as much as a clout on the ear being administered to them ????

Why did Celtic fans not take the blinkers off when, Fergus McCann, the supposed establishment skelping hero, came out and said that it was the ‘worst’ decision ever made to take Rangers FC out of the same league as Celtic FC ????

Anyway,…..with respect,….Celtic PLC-Hierarchy are the ‘real’ foes of the Celtic support, before ye even think about the establishment. Celtic PLC are a huge, influential part of that establishment.

Only Celtic supporters can effect the change to that.

But, the Celtic support of today are too easily gulled….that, is the real Scotland’s Shame….imho.

    Hail Hail and guid luck.

  27. Prediction – Celtic’s underdog, on the ropes heroes will pull a rabbit oot the fire tonight.

    ….off-oot-laters….
