Low conversion rate since Killie

448

If you are a Celtic fan with a persistent need to worry about something, the sight of so many chances being missed in each of the last two weekends will occupy your mind. The game at Pittodrie was indistinguishable from the game at Inverness (our only domestic game which didn’t end in a win), save from the last minute chance which Inverness equalised with and Aberdeen were unable to convert.

We played five games in October, scoring more than once on only two occasions, when we hit two against Motherwell and caught Ross County with a late onslaught. For a squad with the best two strikers in the country this is a conundrum.

Statistical consistency is not to be expected, of course, teams and players will go through barren and plentiful patches, but since we destroyed Kilmarnock last month, Dundee, Motherwell, Newco, Ross County and Aberdeen have all found ways to defend against Celtic for long periods.

Tomorrow night’s Champions League game stands alone, but we might need to change the pattern of play for the visit of Inverness on Saturday.

I was born when we lived in Kelso Drive in 1959, and we left for the Highlands in 1967.

    Amazing!

I woke up this morning thinking, Amazing!

  2. Incidentally, I have been told that tonight`s games is a Freebie on BT.

PS If you are looking in , Buenos Dias, Bristol Bhoy 0:-)

Good to meet you and Cameron.

  3. Hot smoked – 35 plus years of going to football and the only violence I have witnessed was from Oldco Rangers fans. I was on the receiving end of it.

That anyone pursued the idea of this act after the first phase of consultations etc is the most incredible thing. Such nonsense is usually buried under a load of files marked ‘we will look at that later’ and dies the death of a thousand cuts.

Anyway, I’ll settle for a draw tonight. Bite your hand off for it right now. But football being what it is i will be thinking we should win five minutes from KO!

Busy day ahead. Have a good one CQN.

  4. Robert,

I know. It is frustrating how so many simply accept that games of football are regularly accompanied by violence. The images from football violence in England in the 70`s remain strong in the minds of people who never go to games.

As regards tonight, 0-0 wouldn`t surprise me.

I’d started, so I finished, but ended up labelling it Sons of Absurdity.

After chopping off some limbs, gouging out some eyes in the morning, it’s off home at night to fret about which would be the best school to send the kids. That scenario requires more subtlety than the writer could manage, I thought.

Some good performances by the likes of Maggie Schiff, Jimmy Tibbs and Ryan Hurst, offset by the overacting of Katy Sagal, and the one-dimensional performances of those who played Bobby Elvis, and the accent-changing Chibbs, who was undoubtedly King of the frequent man-hugs.

As for the main character, Hunnam does do anger well, I’ll give him that.

At times it came across as a glorified soap-opera, and the almost cartoon-like violence just couldn’t hide the weak characterisation across the series, for me.

    Glad you enjoyed it though.

  8. BT on this special feast day of All Saints

A very Hooooopy special day for yourself – enjoy

  9. Looking forward to Paul67’s match preview.

Will he stich to the ‘ck’, or give the German team their proper name this time?

If ‘Bach’ translated as ‘back’ I could see the reasoning, but it means a stream, as in the wet, not the Net, variety.

  10. What is it with inarticulate Radio Clyde presenters and landing jobs in Scottish football?

We have Barry Ferguson, Alex Rae and, now, Mark Wilson.

Whoever replaces Mark on Radio Clyde will become instant favourite to replace Warburton.

Anyway, a back 4 that has been totally torn up bar Erik the Viking is a dead cert recipe for disaster in Europe.

So my prediction is a 2:2 draw.

  11. Happy Birthday Blantyre Tim!

    Have a great day.

Had to give in and get my knee done last week. Still in Ross Hall, needed a few units of blood over the weekend, which held me back. Hoping for a smooth recovery towards the exit door this week.

As the American kids might say “Oooooh, burn!”

    Hopefully Paul brooks such criticism.

I’m not too bothered about how we spell their name, as long as our defence doesn’t creek under the pressure tonight, I’ll be happy.

  13. Happy birthday BT!

Hope the bhoys give you a nice wee present tonight.

Parents nicht the nicht…..i’ll be racing round the teachers at the speed of Sinky to get back in time for KO.

    Hail! hail!

  16. I was impressed with the Germans at Parkhead but we should keep in mind that their two goals came from poor mistakes by our own hand. Yes, it’ll be very difficult but there is reason to be hopeful.

    C’mon Celtic.

  17. Davidopolous

See, you’ve just shown him how easy it is!

To be honest, after my jocular response the first time he did it, I think Paul’s at the wind-up now.

Off to check if the Gladbach Internet bampots are calling us Celtik!

Which in terms of pronunciation would be pretty understandable, actually.

  18. Fifa ban Scotland players from wearing poppies on shirts

FIFA are banning Scotland and England players from wearing poppies on their shirts for the World Cup qualifier next week.

Football’s governing body has ruled that the symbol is a political statement, sparking a major row.

Senior figures at the organisation have not released an official statement about the decision.

Falklands veteran Simon Weston said football associations in Scotland and England should not bow to Fifa’s demands, even if it means having to pay a fine.

He said: “The FAs of both Scotland and England should stand up and be counted.

“Both those countries took part in both World Wars and should take the lead. They should pay any fine Fifa has to give them. This is not a political gesture.”
