Many will live the rest fo their days only seeing Celtic win the league

963

I’ve said for a while that very few people realise the enormity of what happened in Scottish football in 2012. Some thought there would be a three-year blip before ‘normality’ was restored. Until very recently prevailing perception is that the current ‘abnormal’ circumstances may last 10 years. The old normal isn’t coming back.

When I talked about how few people realised the permanent consequences of Rangers liquidation on the Scottish football to my brother, he was of the view that the penny wouldn’t drop until Newco were in their second season in the Premiership.

They had all the excuses in the world when they were in the lower leagues, and a genuinely good excuse during their first season in the top flight, but when things don’t improve in the second season, a retrenchment will start.

By then it will be evident that the legendary gap below Celtic is huge, that Newco are effectively cannon fodder, that their fans are a cash cow topping up the coffers of every club they visit (including Celtic), but that no matter what they pay for their season tickets, Newco will always be underfunded.

Season ticket sales at current levels are not sustainable to watch a team fail so miserably. Even this miserable team is not sustainable with the current business model. The retrenchment will be real and painful. Questions are now being asked about how they get themselves out of this mess (16 years too late). There will be no answer.

They will win the odd game against Celtic, and pick up a cup occasionally (if Ross County can do it anyone can), but Newco will only win the league if Celtic get their big move. Many football fans in Scotland will live the rest of their lives only seeing Celtic win the league. Just think of that for a moment.  Buying your losers ticket each season will be a painful business.  Some will find other things to occupy themselves with.

The real question that should be asked, is how sustainable is a Rangers club that’s as much chance of winning the title as St Johnstone? The answer will be evident by this time next season.

Jmmcormick… agree 100%. Bad situation, but he seemed like a bright, and more importantly, fundamentally decent, guy. I will follow his career with interest, and hope he does well.

I suggest that the post that you should request is deleted is the one when you predicted that Raonic would win Wimbledon!

You are too much of a gentleman to get a post deleted,

ALTHOUGH that time you took the Huns in Last Man Standing, I would have thought you might might have liked that deleted :-)

Not at all surprised to see that type of testimonial from Ronny.always struck me as a proper gentleman with a good upbringing showing through.

Hope he goes on to have a long and successful life.

Yep, always came across as a coach that had the right ideas even if they didn’t come off in the end.

Plenty of coaches these days follow the same ethos in how the game should be played however it appear that man management skills is still the number 1 requirement of any top boss

I’m so grateful that the mods delete most of it!

  9. Ronny was a good guy. In many respects he had the correct blueprint, however he lacked the experience and competence to carry it through, as well as numerous other factors. In spite of how horribly he was treated by the SMSM, some of our fans and pretty much everyone else in Scotland, he carried himself with dignity and class. I have nothing but respect for him and wish him every success in his future.

They got it from another bank. One I worked for at the time. As I use my own name here I won’t name it here as I signed a declaration of confidentiality when I joined it. The Bank of Scotland was not the first bano to throw money at them though.

Ronny wasn’t the problem……. I very rarely bad mouth the board because the Tory millionaires are doing a good job, their politics are not my politics, …… But Brendan came in brought in Chris Davies, brought in players he knows, Brendan surrounded himself with people he can trust, I thought Ronny was on hung out to dry by his employers, his fans and the “media” the Ronny Roar was mocked……it was the flipping away fans (who go everywhere) that waited behind and encouraged it !

But again……. Brendan is on a different level, and he has proved it from day one

If you ask me, more than a few players needed a severe talking to when Brendan took over.

Scott Brown was first….you can imagine what Brendan said…shape up, or ship out.

    Charlie Mulgrew….Bye.

    Stefan Johansen…Bye.

Id imagine Jamesy got told straight as well, and Stuart Armstrong.

    It was about respect.

They wouldnt get away with that with Brendan, not a man to cross.

    Fair play

Most of the player are the same, so maybe blame Ronny, my point was the board didn’t let Ronny their original number 2 pick his own back room staff….. John Collins, were the board wanting Ronny to fail ??????

Dermot & Peter sitting stroking their white cats like Bond Villians raging that Ronny got 4 & 5 in spite of the wee turncoat who effed off to Monaco as the first Bosman……….

Anyway….my point is Brendan is on a different level AND picked his own back room staff

    God awful football manager

A two year experiment that just passed muster with retaining the league title

The cups were shocking( by and large ) and Europe was cringeworthy

Too many atrocious performances and baffling team selections

  27. Agree with most about Ronny.

I always thought even under MON, Celtic sides lacked pace and fitness in Europe bar Henrik and Stan.

Even in the magic Liverpool 2-0 game, I always remember them taking a throw in – Henrik chases the throw towards the centre circle and has to detour round BBJ who is stationary like a mini roundabout.

Ronny tried to get the squad into proper shape but was more or less ignored.

Now, they listen to Brendan and look far better fitness wise than any other Celtic team in the last 15 years.

Enjoy the morra, Brendan is bringing good tidings, maybe the board played a blinder bringing in Ronny to secure 4 & 5 and then giving Brendan the big bucks until necessary, we live the Celtic “journey” personally, I love the the late 80s & early 90s but that was just because I was single and could go to the games……..stuff your title after title back then a cup win was your life :-)

Although we do live in good times ……

Brendan is special, I hope he is here for years

“God awful football manager ” allow me to disagree with you.

We have had worse: and there are any more in employment in the SPL.

I understand that I am not setting the bar high however let’s be glad that we maintained our league winning sequence and remember the blatant Mibbery in play.

A good coach with good ideas is how I will remember him. The job , was too big for him. Look at how his countryman Bratbaak prospered elsewhere but was pretty poor for us.

  31. I have nothing but respect for Ronnie Deila. He tried to do what our current manager is doing. I hope he goes on to success and enjoys happiness in his life.

    Imo, he gets Celtic.
