Many will live the rest fo their days only seeing Celtic win the league

I’ve said for a while that very few people realise the enormity of what happened in Scottish football in 2012. Some thought there would be a three-year blip before ‘normality’ was restored. Until very recently prevailing perception is that the current ‘abnormal’ circumstances may last 10 years. The old normal isn’t coming back.

When I talked about how few people realised the permanent consequences of Rangers liquidation on the Scottish football to my brother, he was of the view that the penny wouldn’t drop until Newco were in their second season in the Premiership.

They had all the excuses in the world when they were in the lower leagues, and a genuinely good excuse during their first season in the top flight, but when things don’t improve in the second season, a retrenchment will start.

By then it will be evident that the legendary gap below Celtic is huge, that Newco are effectively cannon fodder, that their fans are a cash cow topping up the coffers of every club they visit (including Celtic), but that no matter what they pay for their season tickets, Newco will always be underfunded.

Season ticket sales at current levels are not sustainable to watch a team fail so miserably. Even this miserable team is not sustainable with the current business model. The retrenchment will be real and painful. Questions are now being asked about how they get themselves out of this mess (16 years too late). There will be no answer.

They will win the odd game against Celtic, and pick up a cup occasionally (if Ross County can do it anyone can), but Newco will only win the league if Celtic get their big move. Many football fans in Scotland will live the rest of their lives only seeing Celtic win the league. Just think of that for a moment.  Buying your losers ticket each season will be a painful business.  Some will find other things to occupy themselves with.

The real question that should be asked, is how sustainable is a Rangers club that’s as much chance of winning the title as St Johnstone? The answer will be evident by this time next season.

  1. This might just be the blog that eventually gives up the identity of JJ.

Whether or not there is or isn’t a thing in this I recon the McCanns will not let this go without litigation as they have done in the past.

I have had concerns about this couple and did some reading up on the investigation in the past. Without giving an opinion both parents should at a minimum have been treated like any other working class couple would have been treated for leaving young children unattended in their apartment while they enjoyed themselves at a fair distance. That alone should have seen the McCanns do time. Never mind if any of the rest of it has any substance!

I remember well a teachers vs pupils game and Black Jack nearly halved me in 2 as I was just about to pull the trigger. Guess who won :)

He was a very fine English teacher and I have always had great admiration for him. Heard he passed away a few years ago. RIP.

RD knew what he wanted, but couldn’t deliver on his ideas.

As was noted, thirteen of the last week’s team were in his squad.

He had the insight and courage to cut the sacred cows of Mulgrew, Commons and Stokes from the herd, along with Sammi, one of my favourites.

Brendan wouldn’t have had any of these guys near his first team either.

Same hymn sheet, but Brendan is a much better singer.

He did indeed but then Ronnie backed down for whatever reason and brought Charlie and Kris ( two fine players in my mind)back into the fold.

Loved Ronnie, but just no comparison to Brendan. The press hounded Ronnie as well. Brendan would not allow this.

I can’t speak to the trading history of pubs in Hamilton but the street lighting there is a different gravy to what we get here in Clydebank.

Just watching Kiwi Ross Taylor knock the baggy greens round Seddon Park for an ODI century of singles and it’s as bright as day.

    A results based business.

His European results against European minnows were ……………just one word .

    Unacceptable.

Do you remember Virgil`s furious face as we shipped the last minute second goal against sumbdy Scandinavian , ( Molde ?) making it a 3-2 win and in fact virtually eliminating us from Europe.

Virgil , a winner and a huge star for us , left soon after.

I would be surprised if he would have left us had Brendan been in charge .

Move on BUT learn from our mistake.

  15. No Pasaran

    Seriously.

Do you think if the McCanns were communist, farm hands, labourers etc. they’d have been treated with the same respect afforded the McCann’s. As I said earlier, only this time I will try to expand.

If it was Mr & Mrs McCann in their early 20’s from let’s say, the deprived part of The Wirral, were Mrs McCann was a stay at home mum and Mr McCann a street sweeper. Do you honestly believe public opinion never mind government agency support would be on their side if they left their 4 year old and younger twins in an apartment alone to go out on the piss at the apartment bar? Do you believe they would have been treated the same?

Forgetting your upbringing I hope like mine in a time when threats to our kids safety were less widely known and people were less aware ie, not any time after let’s say 1985 or at best 1990. This happened in 2007.

There’s a bunch of apps out there that can parse submissions to blogs grepping out the 4 standard sweary words and can even be modified to grep out certain words and phrases of the Scottish Catholic disdain.

Its dead easy so it is and will save you many man hours of reading through mind numbing drivel that catholic children in Lanarkshire may be reading. I can provide you one for a mere £50. A token fee really since you guys are my pals. Normally I charge 10 times that but its a Walfradian offer not a Lawwell type one.

However, then again maybe the whole censorship thing you got going on is a misleading Puerile or inappropriate one
