Maribor fatigue levels

1176

While Maribor were clearly second best at home to Celtic last week they remain a potent threat to our season.  You can be sure they’ve watched every minute of every game Celtic have played this season and will have dissected each defensive lapse.  Our acknowledged weaknesses – primarily a defence which has yet to find cohesion – will be well-known to each of them.

The vast acreage of Celtic Park should suit the mobile, pressing, game Ronny Deila has brought to our play.  It will be difficult for Maribor to cover all defensive zones, so with Celtic certain to play without a target-man, I expect the visitors to concede territory on the wings, defend their penalty area and force Celtic to play through them.

We will inevitably leave space at the back, in particular down the wings.  How attentive we deal with this risk could determine the outcome of the tie.

Maribor’s schedule since facing Celtic on Wednesday suggests their biggest challenge will be to maintain energy levels late in the game.  Thursday will have been a rest day, only light training would have taken place Friday and the bulk of the first team had a league game on Saturday evening.  Yesterday would be another rest day, and they will travel today before a light job on Celtic Park this evening.

By contrast, the bulk of those who will start for Celtic tomorrow will have had normal preparatory training Friday, Saturday, Sunday, with some light work tomorrow.  Those who made substitute appearances on Saturday will not have made a significant debit on energy levels.

We need to keep the ball moving early on, curtail rest times and have Maribor accessing their reserve tanks as early as possible.

Jeez for someone who doesn’t have a vote (and remember it was Salmond and the nats who decided that) you’re awfae keen on picking through the minutiae of telephone polls.

I just hope you’re so interested on the 19th of next month.

That kinda sums it ALL up.

I really REALLY wonder about no voters.

  3. Snake,

I spoke to Bruce Crawford, local MSP, he door stepped me, he had me down as a Mibbies voter, so he came for a chat.

    I had already decided Yes.

We spoke at length about how the campaign was going, he was buzzin’.

He stated the vast majority of Mibbies he had spoken to were coming down as Yes voters.

Hardly scientific, but I am becoming optimistic. A couple of months ago I wasn’t.

Right, bed. Tomorrow only football, we have a big game.

We need to be patient, chances will come, the earlier the better mind.

for an idiot, I have made you look foolish. You pretend that my initial challenge does not exist.

I have you on the hook just cannot decide when to reel you in, unlike you I will not resort to name calling.

  6. I was a ‘no’, nailed on, 6 weeks ago.

Moderately disillusioned by a former Labour minister telling us why we would be better together while missing the irony that that means a Tory government more often than not.

Various Labour Party members telling us the same thing. Why?

Then I had clarity of thought in this whole thing. Labour in England and Wales without the Scottish Labour MPs, are dead in the water. Tory government all the way.

Conversely, in Scotland, no Tory government ever again.

Labour values – you are better with a British Tory government than a Scottish Labour (or SNP) government. Eh, are we?

Journey complete – Yes for me.

    ———————————————————-

Where’s that? Only reference I can see refers to 71% of Scots viewers stating Alex Salmond won :

    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/aug/25/guardian-icm-poll-alex-salmond-winner-scotland-debate

And the report in fact states that “The headline figures exclude viewers who say they don’t know who won the debate – with these included the figures are 65% for Salmond, 26% for Darling, and 9% who were not sure.”

So not a poll of undecided voters – a poll of all Scottish viewers. This is the poll quoted by BBC I think.

Are you looking at a different poll?

  15. Well done Alex tonight.Swept the floor with that “Plastic Jock”tonight.

    Turkeybhoy says YES.

  16. If I am talking with my grandson in 20, 30 or 40 years time, I doubt we will be talking about the momentous referendum of 2014.

There was a devolution referendum in 1979, not one of my sons has ever asked me how I voted in that.

In 20, 30, or 40 years time, we are more likely to be still moaning about why we have not got a jet-pack each and why Celtic’s striker signings are so poor.

Odds on a Yes vote remain 7/2 to 5/1.

Odds on a No vote remain 1/6 at worst and remain 1/7 on average.

I have never seen a less persuasive campaign. There have been links to a blog where a Yes voter was praised for threatening never to invite any No voters to his future Edinburgh dinner parties, in the event of losing the referendum vote. I cannot understand how anybody cannot see the comedy in that.

Only debunked in the sense that the Scottish vote has never swung a minority to a majority.

What about the Conservative party pledge to have constituency boundaries redrawn to make them more evenly spread over populations of c60k. With that skewing the seats towards the SE of England do you think that will make right wing governments more or less likely for the UK?

I have no idea what you are on about “fellow nat” So far I have established that you are ignorant of me and my intentions.

I will know in future not to expect a reasoned debate, I have a holiday to enjoy this week. Although it has been pleasant exposing you , enjoy spending the bet you did not accept to back up your foolish statement. Off you go now , little fish.

  23. Can’t understand Scottish people wanting to be represented by The Butcher’s Apron. Certainly can’t understand Scottish people of Irish descent wanting to be represented by The Butcher’s Apron. I do understand fear of change and the concept that the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. I have studied the Polls and whilst I think Ernie went a bit over the top at 2 to 1. I do expect the No vote will prevail this time. However if the margin is reasonably close, I can’t put a precise figure but say 57% to 43%, I think it is inevitable that Scottish Independence will come within 10/15 years.

  24. Ohhhhhh, there are big noisy men on the TV raising their voices at each other,I am totally offended.

Give it a rest. You sound like a shower of Pansies.I notice its the “No”voters that are upset.
