While Maribor were clearly second best at home to Celtic last week they remain a potent threat to our season. You can be sure they’ve watched every minute of every game Celtic have played this season and will have dissected each defensive lapse. Our acknowledged weaknesses – primarily a defence which has yet to find cohesion – will be well-known to each of them.
The vast acreage of Celtic Park should suit the mobile, pressing, game Ronny Deila has brought to our play. It will be difficult for Maribor to cover all defensive zones, so with Celtic certain to play without a target-man, I expect the visitors to concede territory on the wings, defend their penalty area and force Celtic to play through them.
We will inevitably leave space at the back, in particular down the wings. How attentive we deal with this risk could determine the outcome of the tie.
Maribor’s schedule since facing Celtic on Wednesday suggests their biggest challenge will be to maintain energy levels late in the game. Thursday will have been a rest day, only light training would have taken place Friday and the bulk of the first team had a league game on Saturday evening. Yesterday would be another rest day, and they will travel today before a light job on Celtic Park this evening.
By contrast, the bulk of those who will start for Celtic tomorrow will have had normal preparatory training Friday, Saturday, Sunday, with some light work tomorrow. Those who made substitute appearances on Saturday will not have made a significant debit on energy levels.
We need to keep the ball moving early on, curtail rest times and have Maribor accessing their reserve tanks as early as possible.

Cheers
That number is encouraging,
Kennedy Nixon debate on TV
JFK he was slick , prepared and polished.
Nixon (with sweat trickling from his brow) refused makeup which meant that he looked pale and uncomfortable under the TV lights.
The TV viewers polled gave JFK the ‘win’ by a large margin.
Those who listened to the debate on radio thought Nixon was more convincing.
I hate to think that such an important debate can be won by personality of the speaker rather the content of his argument.

Totally agree , thats my take on it too.
Three years ago tonight the now dead rangers drew with Maribor in front of 32000 at Ibrokes
Just had a wee read at the match report and the Huns chased the game missing a lot of chances before getting caught on the break to go 1-3 on aggregate . Pulled a goal back but out all the same
We go into the match with a 1-1 and probably 20.000 more fans in the stand
Let’s cheer the bhoys onto victory

‘There was always going to be a late surge of Yes voters.’

Eh, no.
Not in the real world, maybe in some SNP fantasy land.
The academic research suggests the opposite will happen.

It’s not a threat. The review will take place in 2018, with boundary changes already approved in principle in 2012. That will see Scotland lose 7 Westminster seats, Wales 10, NI 2 and England 31 mostly in non-Conservative areas in the rural areas of the North and West.
It’s real, not scaremongering and it’s something I’ve been talking about long before I got fully engaged by the Referendum.
All bluster and blethering aside, the fact is that it would be extremely inconvenient for Lord Rothschild and his supplanted, lackey monarchy to deal with a Yes vote.
I would venture that the vote will swing accordingly.

The nats have nailed their colours to the mast with their pledge to cut corporation tax by 3%.
:::::::::::
SNP may have done so but are not al yes voters are SNP.
And judging by what I have heard and read the Labour Party have nailed their colours to the austerity mast too.
In fact, I was sure that I heard Darling defend the Tories on NHS spending.
Ernie Lynch – ICM putting Yes at 49% tonight. It’ll pull back I suspect.
Still think it’ll be as low as 33%?
Bada / Sanna
Thanks guys – will head in that direction. Wee BGFC wants some pre-match Craic.

Salmond is on record as saying a referendum can only be held once in a generation ( ie 25 years).
He also said in the previous debate that the referendum was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I’m sticking by that figure.
Where is Salmond getting his prediction of up to an 80% turnout?

Fair play. I suspect you’re a Machiavellian Yes man :)
Just popped in to find out any latest news or gossip on Celtic, can anybody point out what comments page it is on please ;-)
Is it true that if the YES voters win
Paul will be splitting the board in two.
Aye CQN and
Naw CQN
Posters will have to sign up for one or the other to avoid confrontations, finger pointing, mine shafting and happy clapping.
Things we don’t have now.
Aye CQN topics will be limited to Celtic news, SPL refereeing quality, meet ups, farming news and premium whiskies, while
Naw CQN will deal mainly with the form of ex Celtic players in the EPL and Championship, slagging Liverpool, discussing Mediterranean weather and the national, I.e. English, debt.
Profanities will be allowed only on the Aye CQN.
“Where is Salmond getting his prediction of up to an 80% turnout?”
Salmond talks bollox shock?????????
Ernie
Maybe I have misjudged you but I have always thought of you has Labour but a bit left of Labour.
Given that you are given to lump all yes voters as nat / SNP, what are your political affiliations.
My guess is
Communist party of GB.

lynott67 thanks, I just don’t understand do they think they can use their anger to persuade people into their way of thinking.

If Scotland votes No I hope the football associations of the UK set up an annual home nations cup in the summer just so the English can get a regular shot at rippin’ the pish right out of us on a regular basis,we might as well give them the icing on their cake.

Need to watch it again but I think the estimate came from the audience member who asked the question or from Glenn Campbell initially.
Oh and if the Nats cuts corporation tax to around 20% expect an influx of US corporations buying Scottish companies to allow them to enjoy tax inversion.
For instance see the current bid by Burger King for Tim Horton in Canada.
Tim Horton should be our sponsor BTW.
Stadium naming rights of TIM Park would be acceptable to even our most dyed in the wool fan.

I’d like to think I fall into the category of what Harry McShane described as humane Marxists.
Humane doesn’t necesarilly mean polite though, before anyone mentions it.
If YES get as much as 33% i’ll be amazed.
Attendance concerns for Sevco….
From Evening Times article: Deserted seats show reality of angry Rangers fans voting with their feet.
“The Petrofac Training Cup matches with Hibs and then Clyde were always going to attract smaller crowds due to the stature of the competition and the size of the opposition.”
I might be confused but I am sure I read somewhere that having Hibs (and Hearts) in the 2nd division/tier was one of the factors making it the most competitive league in Scotland, possibly the world….
SMSM forgetting their own myths again!
Anyway, it’s now tomorrow, so let’s all revert to football mode, and leave politics for another day.
2-0.
Just had a peek at official site, seems to be between 500-600 tickets left for tonight.
While I was on I had a look at season ticket availability…only 10 available!!!
Go figure…hope the place is rockin.
Hail Hail.

Aye. I can definitely back your view on 2-0.
2-1
And now over to the big YES/NO debate….
.

Will Sevco survive until Christmas?
Mr Salmond… No.
Mr Darling… No.
There you have it. A unanimous decision.

::::::::::::;;
Heard Harry mcShane at Glasgow trades council speaking on behalf of Solidarity.
Hard line Communist Party declared that Solidarity was supported by Catholicsand should be opposed.
Harry said it was impossible to have a mass movement in Poland that did not have a lot of Catholics !
Nothing to do with yes no but your response brought back that memory. Ta.
Warning. Celtic post follows. Indy debaters please scroll on past.
The support at the Murrayfield Legia return match was a wee bit less than enthusiastic.
Given the performance in Inverness, will we see the same discontent if we are struggling early on?
Or having seen the annihilation of Dundee United, will we dig deep and roar on the team?
I sincerely hope it’s the latter.
Maribor will want to take the crowd out the game in the first half by containing us and parking the bus across their 18 yard box.
I remember the silence at Hampden Park when Billy Bremner scored the equalizer in the EC semi final. Granted it was against the run of play.
Nevertheless the crowd soon recovered from the shock and provided the 12th, 13th and 14th men.
Celtic need our support for 90+ minutes tomorrow night and I hope to frighten the bejaysus out of my neighbours when we score our goalS.
Whenever a politico calls at my door or stops me in the street I always tell them that I’m going to vote their way. It serves two purposes in that it gets rid of them quickly and also messes with their straw polls.
Tonight, my impression was that Salmond’s performance was better than Darling’s with Darling having won the first debate.
