McGregor and managing form of young players

913

If you’ve not been following the work being done in your name in Malawi this week, do so here.  20 people arrived from Scotland early this week on behalf of the Celtic Foundation to renovate six centres which feed children ages five and under.  They are also building a latrine (pretty sure this is a toilet) at one of the centres.

It’s another remarkable testament to the ethos of Celtic 127 years after the project started.

The Foundation are in Malawi with Mary’s Meals, the remarkable Scottish charity which is feeding hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest children each day.  By careful management of costs, utilisation of volunteers and ‘vocational’ staff, a remarkably high 93% of their revenue reaches those in need on the ground.

Really good to read Callum McGregor speaking to Celtic media.  Not that he had anything particularly illuminating to say, but he was speaking after putting in a training session, confirming his return to fitness.

With the injury to James Forrest, Callum was one of the few bright lights in our early season form, opening the scoring in three consecutive European away games.  He even shone in the inept Murryfield performance against Legia.

At the Hearts game last month I overheard someone suggest Callum needed a rest.  His form had definitely dipped, which is not uncommon after young players sparkly when first breaking into the team.  If he stayed fit there’s little chance he would have been rested for any of the recent games, such has been the form of those around him, so maybe his recent illness came at the right time.

Yes I missed the first half last week and wish I’d missed the second!

I have not had an e mail explaining the reason or what is being done to combat it.

Technically imo, if Celtic are pumping out the bytes at a rate commensurate with the price then they can argue they are meeting their responsibility.

I think of the net as a main river in full flow with tributaries streaming off it and more smaller streams off them.

If you are up some back stream then obviously by the time bytes get there the pressure is less.

I have no idea if the closer you are to the main stream as in cricket from India or if indeed the game from India is being pumped out at a higher rate but with a bigger audience costs less to pump is a factor.

I’d actually like to know how it all works (I’ve always been geekish like that) and I think subscribers should know in non technical terms what factors inhibit the reception they get.

There was something on the old C TV Web site providing technical data so I’ll need to have a look but I doubt it’s in layman’s terms.

However at normal or HD rates I think CTV offers value for money compared with an ST purchase. 38 games for a lot less than an ST costs for home games only so I’m prepared to put up with the occasional blip but agree it is good customer service to explain the cause plus that other stuff I mentioned.

Neganon 2 and others saying club has lost it’s soul.

I dont disagree that it has lost somwthing

Can anyone tell me when they felt that it had this ‘soul’ and had a commercial viability and success on the pitch at the same time ?

Centenary year was great but we were an unsustainable commercial shambles run by ( in many eyes) self interested old board.

Seville year saw us win nothing ( not even domestically as rangers won the double ) but millions of admirers for a few weeks. Ultimately with completely unsustainable cost base which needed further cash bail out.

Lisbon was obviously amazing but in a bygone era where things were different. Old board got kinda lucky with JS appointment but still average crowds paying peanuts and below current levs for most games.

4 2 season had shocking crowds and we were totally unprofessional. Shmbolic at board level too

Not easy for me to see where we were ever really getting it right.

But perhaps you guys have other memories

    …………..

    Laughing out loud

I have great memories of the 4-2 game…… From the jungle and free beer in the Greenock CSC and then on to the Knights in Greenock for even more late drinks.

Our club I think is broke, we need change and player or coach change won’t fix it.

    What do you think Burnley?

Vmhan, You can’t say stuff like that, can you accept short term pain for long term gain. Of course if we could see into the future and if we were guaranteed long term gain then yes. But what if we endure short term pain to only inherit more longer term pain then no. I don’t know what the situation will be in a couple of years time, right now I’m only interested in one thing victory against Ross County next week.

    ……..

    Lol ✊

Lord Mayor McSweeney never gave his life for short term gain, he chose to died for long term gain.

My thoughts are that we as a support need to look at long term gain, it’s the only way we can improve IMO of course, the difficulty would be convincing the support. The PLC can’t or won’t do that, fail!

Enjoy the Jets and Broncos with the great Peyton Manning tomorrow…must be coming to the end of his career.

As a young lad I watched the only Super Bowl the Jets with Joe Namath won….the following year I was back hame living and in Milan….much prefer the Giants though as they were founded by Irish/American Tim Marr and coached by KoC member Tom Coughlin.

Incidentally the wee lassie in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is the great granddaughter of Tim Marra the founder of the Giants….her other great grandfather on her da’s side was Art Rooney who founded the Pittsburgh Steelers…..while her cousin Tom Rooney is the US Ambassador to Ireland.

As for the Toronto Maple Laffs…..they huvnae won a trophy since 1967….Go Habs Go.

  22. Interesting to read some Celtic supporters say that if Celtic don’t say that sevco are a NEW club, they won’t go to Celtic games.

    Wow.

Celtic supporters had a choice to make when the other lot got Liquidated. We could have filled the stadium every week, having snapped up those heavily discounted season tickets. THAT more than anything would have been a statement that the other lot were dead to us, that we didn’t need them.

But what did we do? 20k to 30k have walked away from Celtic.

And what will we do? I predict that some portion of that 20-30k will return when sevco ‘returns’.

    Make up your minds……

    ————————————————————————————————————-

Do you seriously think that Jo Inge Berget fits RD’s stated philosophy about how he wants his football team to play the game? Watch this video clip, listen carefully to what RD says about the way he wants to see us play then ask yourself if Jo Inge Berget fits the bill on the evidence of what we’ve all seen of him in the hoops?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27731360

Also, the same video clip includes the Peter Lawwell lie (2m 35sec) that RD was the number one candidate from the moment NFL. We now know that not be true through Roy Keane’s revelations. Is it any wonder you can hardly believe anything that comes out of this man’s mouth?

  26. weeron,

I sadly suspect you’re right. And I probably won’t be renewing because I can’t make Sunday 1 o’clock kick offs and I’m none too happy about it.
