McInnes proves point with second win over Celtic

789

The clean sheet record had to go eventually, so I’m pleased it went to a good goal, not an error by Fraser, which would have been harsh on the big keeper.  Having already recorded Celtic’s, then Scotland’s league clean sheet record, the British and European records were within touching distance, but that is now a matter for next season.

Months ago, when Virgil van Dijk first suggested we could go through the league season without defeat I said we were not nearly consistent enough to achieve this.  Ironically, last night’s defeat came after a sustained period of consistent an authoritative performances, in the league.

Aberdeen will have lots of reasons to wonder where there team might go now, having beaten Celtic twice in a month.  Amid all the newspaper talk in 2012 that Celtic needed their soon to be liquidated opponent, a few of us suggested that what Celtic really need is an opponent, and that Aberdeen, playing to a captive audience in a wealthy city, were the most likely candidates.

Manager, Derek McInnes, knows he does not have the resources to compete over a league programme, but he has proven a few points:  he knows how to beat Celtic and his team are the best of the rest.

If Aberdeen can cope with the vagaries of trips to Easter Road and Victoria Park next season, four games against Celtic will take care of themselves.  Let’s hope Newco Rangers don’t nip in and buy their best players with that non-emergency £1.5m loan.

The immediate challenge for Celtic is to get back into winning form on Saturday.  League Cup finalists, Inverness, will come to make up the numbers.

Australia certainly is a fine example of Capitalism at its worst.

I just think you need a Masters Degree in brassneckery to boast about that fact.

    ——————————————————————————————————————

Or are you actually admitting that racism, homophobia etc are integral parts of “capitalist culture”?

    Good for you

I accept that I live in a capitalist society. I was brought up in one.

That doesn’t mean I am obliged to love it and praise it to the hilt. I have criticised some aspects of capitalism and praised others.

Just because I speak out against some aspects of capitalism doesn’t mean I want to blow it all into oblivion. It has its faults but it is the system we’ve got and we have to make the most of it. Just don’t expect me to join you in singing its praises every day and shouting about how wonderful it is.

  5. GCT,

You’re earlier comments re immigration, particularly non-white, non-Christian migrants are 100% on the money! what is more disturbing is the places that you will hear those sentiments being echoed. People that I would normally describe as reasonably well educated, high wage earners and almost paragons of society. Extremely worrying when a full blown discussion gets underway, the real dark side then really comes through.

One of the saddest stories I ever heard.

I have a Japanese girl works for me. She is in her late 20s and is a permanent resident. A couple of years ago, her grandparents and her mother came over to the Gold Coast from Japan to spend some time with her. The trip just happened to coincide with Australia Day.

In the evening of Australia Day, they all went for a walk along the promenade. They were punched, spat on and racially abused by Australians walking between pubs and clubs. Their assailants were chanting “Aussie . . . Aussie . . . Aussie . . .”

It was very upsetting to hear of that the next day.

Since then, she hasn’t ventured out on Australia Day.

What is that all about? Honestly!

I like the wee Irish guy running Qantas.

Gives the lie to homophobia and capitalism.

    No idea about his ability,however.

He did ground Qantas flights for a number of days during a run-in with the Unions and was heavily criticised for doing so.

In the meantime, the political ground in Oz has shifted.

I figure average of 100,00 bucks per head for 5,000 redundancies.

    Half a billion bucks.

Apparently the guy who was passed over for C.E.O. of Qantas is now running Virgin OZ with big profits,so the ” boneheads” comment might be spot on.

  11. Too right buddy

The day will come of that im sure.

When an honest man , see’s an honest wage

  12. GCT,

That’s a shocking story but unfortunately not surprising around Australia Day. We became citizens on Australia Day a few years ago in a country town in WA, early in the morning, a brilliant day and a great feeling for all of us. Going up to Perth some years ago for the big fireworks display had become very uncomfortable as the evening crept in and hoards of bogans wrapped in Aussie flags and fuelled with booze menaced people of all races, to the point where the cops have now taken the booze out of the equation for the most part.

In some ways I equate the sectarianism in Scotland with the situation you mentioned, when talking one to one with a person, race, religion, etc does not get a mention but when the mob get going it can be a frightening scenario for the person/people in the minority.

    Horrible story.

I`ve been told by a heavily accented guy to go back to where I came from.

    Honest.:-)

Racism and racists exist in every country, however there are laws here which will punish racist behaviour.

In a multicultural country, inevitably there is racist behaviour between immigrant communities.

Greeks/Turks.Serbs/Croats.Recently a riot between Aboriginals and Islanders.

Does that make Oz a racist country?

No,but a country which contains racists,of every race.

  15. macjay –

Fair comment, but as stated earlier, among white peoples, Australians are generally the most racist I have ever encountered, and that includes parts of the US.

  16. About a year ago I was in one of the Gold Coast surf clubs. There were about 6 of us, mostly male, around the table. The subject inevitably got round to Muslims, Asians etc.

One guy said, “I was in a restaurant the other night and there was a whole family of Japs,” he announced with great indignation. “They were speaking bloody Japanese.”

    I kid you not.

“So,” I said. “What’s wrong with that?”

“It’s embarrassing,” he groaned. “This is Australia. Why can’t they speak English?”

That’s about the level of some of these people. There is just no talking to them.

  18. The racism recounted above is all too prevalent in society in general … And accepted. Where I currently work there is online training on diversity and advice given is to challenge racism when confronted with it … Tried that once when my manager sent out yet Another racially offensive joke and got ridiculed for it…. Told me a lot about the culture I’m working in… Thankfully my term is coming to an end for other reasons. Previous jobs have also been a concern… One boss in particular complaining about the competency of an.”offshore” employee by stating that he was a “typical Paki” … Truly shocking statement that again was challenged by one brave soul in the meeting (yes openly stated in a meeting !)

The only solace I have here is that I know attitudes are improving overall but it’s a slow process – I also need to remind myself that challenging this behaviour is the right thing to do, despite adverse reaction

  19. Larry –

    Well said.

Whenever I challenged racism in the workplace in the UK, I was usually met with the stock response: “Don’t give me that politically correct pish!”

  20. Tom. I find most Aussie males have a political view far to the right of Norman tebbit

Been here seven years and I think I must have spoken in total to Aussie males for less than 60 mins. Nothing in common with them

  25. Morning all.

Hearing rumours over here that Man Utd may finally have lost patience with David Moyes and want to replace him with Antonio Conte of Rubentus.

Also heard a story that Carlo Ancelotti was the first choice to replace SAF. Invited him to dinner where Ferguson wined and dined him and basically offered him the job. Allegedly of course. He turned it down because he had already given his word to Real Madrid.

Possibly a load of bollox mind!

    HH!!

  26. Just in to say…..

Jose was on the box there going on about how his strikers need 5 chances to score 1 goal.

Whereas, he went on….some teams create 5 chances and get – goals !!!

Were I’m going here is…LG, who I think will be the Celtic fans new cannonball kid, has played in 2 games for Celtic, has had 1 chance and has scored 1 goal !!!

Ah mean…Celtic could have – Messi ,Rooney, Suarez, Balde, Pukki etc playing in the frontline and yet, they wouldn’t get any chances ?

Surely the ‘above’ wee annoying point is more imortant or, should be more important on a Celtic fans blog than – how many times the huns will die ?

Anyway – If anybody can be bothered answering ?

  27. Good morning CQNers,

I’ve had some interesting conversations in my local when I’ve challenged racism. Sadly the 2 most recent were, firstly, with an Irishman who supported Man Utd and thought a black player was less of a player because of his colour. The second was a Scottish Celtic supporter who was a rabid racist and blamed everyone from the Poles to the Blacks for all the ills in his world.

  28. In the 1960s I sailed to Australia from Japan on a ship carrying a general cargo of everything from cars to sewing machine needles. There was a bit of press coverage when we started discharging in Sydney as we were the first vessel to discharge a full general cargo from Japan apparently.

This was at a time when Aboriginal Australians weren’t allowed in pubs and only white immigrants were allowed in (whether that was official policy or not it was a fact).

Considering that this was just over 20 years since the two countries had been at war I suppose that was progress and one could expect a certain amount of resentment at our cargoes country of origin, which would fade over the years.

Today in the Glasgow Herald we read of the Irish diplomat calling for Scotland to address anti-Irish racism here. By my reckoning its about three and a quarter centuries since the Battle of the Boyne but it is still a major celebration in this country every year! We can’t criticise the aussies too much.

Can tell you how this Sevco fiasco will ‘pan out’ right now. If zombies put season ticket money into a Trust Fund, King will declare they start a new rangers all together. Next thing you know they buy the ‘history’ from the Spivs. SFA will declare them as same club and it will all carry as before.
