CHRIS SUTTON didn’t hold back as he launched a ferocious verbal volley at the Celtic board following after the latest Champions League flop.

The former hitman saw the Hoops exit the elite competition for the fourth consecutive season at the qualifying stage after crashing 3-2 on aggregate to FC Midtjylland and insisted new chief executive Dominic McKay owes an APOLOGY to boss Ange Postecoglou.

Sutton was raging at the Parkhead hierarchy for dealing the new manager “an awful hand” as he wasleft with a makeshift defence for such a crucial confrontation that could have brought in something in the region of £40million for the club in the group stages.

The one-time England international forward fumed: “Dominic McKay should be phoning up Ange Postecglou and apologising.

“It’s embarrassing and mismanagement. This isn’t on the manager – this is on the board.

DOWN AND OUT IN DENMARK…Ange Postecoglou watches the Champions League exit.

“For Celtic to go out of the Champions League at this stage – we all know the reasons for it – the manager has been dealt an awful hand. ”

Sutton, speaking to Premier Sports, added: “I said it last week and that it would be a miracle if Celtic got through the Champions League group stage.

“Look at his bench tonight and what he had to work with and what he had to throw on. There have been issues that have needed addressing for a long time.

“Every Celtic fan knows they needed a goalkeeper who was up to it. Barkas, Bain and Hazard aren’t up to it – why haven’t Celtic acted?

“Nir Bitton once again playing a Champions League qualifier Why on earth was Kristoffer Ajer sold? The club knew he was going to move on, but Dane Murray played well after being thrown in at the deep end.”

The focus for the Celtic manager is now Saturday night’s Premiership opener against Hearts at Tynecastle with an 8pm start.
