Need to find edge to match United

935

Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice.  For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action.  For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season.  United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions.  Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.

For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow.  I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.

We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.

Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

Just had a delightful thought I will never ever be going to a Ramsden’s Cup Final. Never.

    Never say never.

It is always possible that the pawnshop may someday sponsor the Scottish or League Cup.

Very true, a very tidy sum of money too, I’d bet.

He’s the classic MSM mendicant, that realised antic Celtic diatribe would get him

big bucks, and he wouldn’t need to find out who played football outside of

Glasgow. I’m glad Celtic made an example of him,

We should be grateful for all he helped to do to Deidco, with his lies like

Keevins sickens me more than the out and out true blues who have been on the offensive since minute one but are shaken to the core with the change in the landscape. Auld Shug’s two headed coin journalism has left him permanently confused even though we are now on top…let’s see the scarf again Hugh?

Don’t disagree with you re HK. He’s made poor decisions IMO especially in the last 6 or 7 years.

However in dealings with the Dark Side I don’t think he was ever particularly guilty of sucking up to Minty. Unlike the majority of his MSM colleagues.

He decided however on sinning by ommission.

He held that SDM was an out and out bigot. HK was treated shabbily by him but HK decided there was nowhere to go with that story.

Yup. For evil to succeed merely takes good men to do nothing.

Trouble with Keevins is that he set out to be a poor man’s Jimmy Sanderson.

  17. Kevjungle

I am probably going to regret this but you are some piece of work.

You come on here regularly to defend “a true Celtic man” in Hugh Keevins, a journalist who has never failed to put the boot into Celtic at any opportunity. He will use lies and half truths to put Celtic in a bad light and to sell the rag he works for. You then come on and try to claim that you “putting the boot into” Neil Lennon is for his own good. You have touted various managers to take over from Neil whilst conveniently forgetting that Neil has wiped the floor domestically with the teams these supposedly superior managers put out.

Neil Lennon is by no means infallible and is continuing to learn his trade, but I can assure you he is more a Celtic man than you or Hugh Keevins. When you have had to put up with the verbal, physical and mental abuse he has then you might be man enough to talk about him a bit more respectfully.

Do not come back to me with an answer I will be scrolling by.

Yeah, yeah and Russia is the only country who can give lesson of democracy, Christian values, tolerancy etc.

Why don’t you understand simple things John O’Neil like this:

Nobody, not one country in eaurope has similar law against gays like it Russia has? Yes, against. When you say ; they are not right, their life is not clear, you put stigmatas on people and tell who is good who is not good. They have always been in Russia who were good to the Tsar, to the government and those to stand alone, at least excluded.

    I sound like a russophobe?

My first visit to Moscow, first trip into the city : Tretyakov Gallery and Christ the Saviour sbor. Love the culture and simple people but don’t accept your xenophobia and government arrogancy.

You remember why none of the Jews who escaped from Egypt did not hot Israel land?

God did not want them old way thinking people to bild new country. I hope those who were born after Perestroyka will build new democratic Russia.

As I always read your posts, and having spoken with you about Russia before, I know you are no Russophobe .

I refute any suggestion of arrogance or xenophobia. On the contrary. I just wanted to highlight that the issue is far more complicated than you suggested.

You may want democracy in Russia. Many Russians don’t.
