Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice. For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action. For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season. United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions. Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.
For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow. I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.
We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger. Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.
Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

Guys
I saw him conducting the chorus of Celtic Fans *both hands* in the foyer at Celtic Park hundreds outside singing Hail Hail, after we won the league.
A despicable individual who thrives on fanning the flames, and feeding fans with
polemics, which he pounces on.
James Sanderson was a journalist of the old tradition in the days before you were allowed to mention ‘signing policy’ . It simply wasn’t a topic, even though there were proper journalists in those days, who knew their football.
Paul67 was right, lazy journalism and go for ” Celtic will be thrashed by Athletico ” * even though I can’t tell you lone player in their squad *

Bonsoir à tous!
C’est vrai que le front national a gagné beaucoup de villes en France mais la gauche reste encore comme le gouvernement pour le moment. Le président M Hollande a mis en place sa ancienne femme Ségolène Royal dans le gouvernement….

Gay rights? Concentrate on Arab states where it is illegal.
Yes, because once you find someone worse than yourself, by the rule of Top Trumps you’re exonerated.

l loved Jimmy Sanderson; saw him at a Q&A in St Margaret’s Airdrie when I was a teenager and Celtic Films were on after the panel. A great night.
I loved his enthusiasm about Champagne Charlie Nicholas and how he promoted the game rather than put the boot in all the time.

Just a taste of things to come…
I was getting changed in the locker room last night about to start the nightshit. I’m at the far back corner( that’s where the tims are put…joking..then again) overhearing a discussion with The rangers fans.
It went something like this…
“Ye gon tae the semi against that Dundee hibs mob?
I, only cost me twenty quid fur me n ma boy,
That’s no bad.
I, but ad rather batter f–k oot a them than play a game against them.
Their face was a picture when I passed them ;)
Now this is from a person who I realy thought was…just a fan.
I’ll never learn when it comes to them…if anyone is under the illusion we need them back in any incarnation…think again.

Yes, I’m very focused on this problem there and never travelled to any of them. That’s the reason. Can’t persuade my wife and daughters to change the destination. If they respected gay rights I would be there.
I remember Kojo, said he did think the Arabs were not our friends as the Jews seemed to be. You probably undercovered the problem, gays rights there. I did not travel there.
Kojo, your turn:-)
Up over goal. Thanks for giving your argument but I also flounce. No more political posts from me tonight. HH.

….was trawling the interweb and noticed a reference to Celtic watching 25yr old, Argentinian goalkeeper, Fernando Monetti.
Here’s a rough translation of what I found in the Argentinian papers:-
Monetti could be the next to leave Gimnasia
A Celtic scout watched goalkeeper Fernando “Mono” Monetti against in last weekend’s game against Velez Sarsfield. Unfortunately, it was not the best game for Monetti as Gimnasia lost 5-1. After the match Monetti said he was keen to go to Scotland and they will keep a watch on him for the rest of the season..
The idea of releasing Monetti is not unpleasant for Gimnasia, who have already released Franco Mussis to Copenhagen in an attempt to balance their books. So at the end of this campaign the question remains will Monetti go to Scotland, or another Agentinian team (Boca ?)
….. not a Scooby about the boy, but he looks a wee bit on the wee side for a keeper.

No problem. Just to show there’s no hard feelings, here’s a nice picture of a future Russia, where people can enjoy show tunes without being stigmatised:
