Need to find edge to match United

935

Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice.  For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action.  For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season.  United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions.  Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.

For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow.  I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.

We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.

Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

  3. I very rarely come on and comment on anything non-Celtic, especially Politics. However, today I feel I must.

Having just watched the tributes, including one from Bernard Ponsoby to Margo I agree she was indeed a charismatic figure. Whether you agreed with her Politics or Party affiliation I do not think anybody could not respect the woman that was Margo. Bernard obviously knew her both as a friend and Politician and he is of a different political persuasion, his glowing tribute tonight to a friend and political foe summed Margo up perfectly in my opinion. I believe she was a woman of principle, why can’t have more Politicians like her!

    God Bless her Soul.

I think our management have a masochistic streak, in wanting to feed the lapdogs exactly what they want. The Griffiths story brought to the fore again, and NL actually agreeing with the SFA charging him.Tell them nothing, play a straight bat and deal with everything behind closed doors.I despair at times.

    Hi pal

I’m with you all the way regards passing the ball on the ground. Just have a look see at how many time Barca or Real Madrid put a cross in from the wing. Answer – never.Accurate passing to feet is what is needed, not a 50/50 ball in from the wing.

When goalies kick out, again a 50/50 ball. Why not pass out to feet of your own team?

Makes good sense to me, but what do I know, for goodness sake!

  10. KevJ, sure.

Keevins is no friend of Celtic, he is a friend, only, of himself.

Self interest, selling papers, and getting family members to phone him when he’s on the radio.

Whatever claim Hugh Keevins laid to Celtic in any positive sense went south when he was banned by the club , the only churnalist to have realised this fate ……. and rightly so imo .

  12. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

In a world of chancers & self-seeking political chameleons, Margo MacDonald was a giant as a person & as a politician.

    Rest in Peace, Margo.

  13. Just had a delightful thought I will never ever be going to a Ramsden’s Cup Final. Never.

Interesting that you’ll vote YES. My daughters, 26 and 19, one a doctor and the younger one studying Law and French at Glasgow will vote NO.

They have their strong views on this matter and rightly so.I’ve discussed this with them and respect how they intend to vote.

Given my age the outcome will probably matter little to me either way so I’m inclined not to go against my daughters’ thoughts.

Does that make any sense? Likely not I suppose:o)
