Nerves and joy ahead of Inverness game

739

I’m sure I’m not the only one who winced when I read Neil Lennon suggesting tomorrow would be “very joyous”.  Let’s remember, Inverness Caledonian Thistle won at Celtic Park on their visit earlier this season and have punctured our title ambitions in recent seasons.  There is a competitive football game to win before anyone can talk about joy.

Getting nervous about tomorrow already…..

Delighted Motherwell made short work of Dundee United last night.  They deserve their second successive top two SPL finish, a remarkable achievement for a small club.  Where are you, Aberdeen, United, Hibs, Hearts?

The curious situation of Charles Green, no longer Newco Rangers chief executive but still director of the club, and expects to remain so until the end of May.

Dundee manager and professional deep searcher, John ‘Bhomber’ Brown this afternoon told Radio Scotland, the SFA “want to take stock and take a look at their own department”, when asked about Neil Lennon’s victimisation for using industrial language at a football game.

Wise words from Bhomber.

l know what you mean . l am 54 and like you still find it hard to express.

Perhaps we feel the weight of history as we carry forward the love instilled in us by our family and friends. The feeling that this is indeed more Than a Club. That we are passing on that history to the next generation, a generation, who as far as l can see will make us proud as they are rightly proud of how we and our forefathers loved and cared for our club, people and cause.

A bit like the janny boasting on his biggest manhood in primary school award

  3. NFL has talked on several occasions about building a legacy at celtic. If he truly wants to build a legacy it will take 10 + years, he’s no more than 3 years into that.

today we can win the league, thank the players and say goodbye to a few. we can give a few of the young players a chance to shine towards the end of the season.

Would like to sign a powerful centre back (crying out for no nonsense CB), mckie-stevenson (teams crying out for more skill, entertainment and pace) and Johnny (goals) Russell in the summer, as well as a quality forward (and more goals).

    hail hail

  4. Good morning friends from a pretty wet though bright looking East Kilbride. Will it dampen the party atmosphere? Not a chance!! As excited about the possibility of winning the league today as I’ve ever been in the past.

    Can’t wait.

Agree with that. A centre half that attacks the ball (in the Bobo mould) would complement the ‘passing’ central defenders we have (Mulgrew, Ambrose, Lustig). A striker who is good in the air as well as on the deck (Helenius of Aalborg though I think we’ll go for Kevin Doyle). Another winger as an alternative to Forrest (linked with both Tonev & Mackay-Steven, either would be good). And Johnny Russell, we’ve reached the James McCarthy/Steven Flethcer moment where if we want him its this summer or never.

  6. There’s nothing quite like title winning day. There are so many people in this country want to see us fail and each Celtic victory is like a dagger through the heart to them. That makes the good times all the sweeter so to fellow Tims everywhere enjoy our day for it truly has come. HH

    Yep agree…

Think we can do a good job today and will win convincingly, we done last year to clinch the flag 6-0 today..

  10. Today marks marks Title No.26 for me, so I did a bit of research on my first ever Title Party – back in the days of the; crocheted bunnets, tin-foil rosettes, tram-cars and the great Jock Stein (the player and captain).

Celtic had beaten Hibs 3-0 at Easter Road (17/04/1954) to win the 1st Division League Title for the first time in 16 years.

    26/04/1954 – Celtic 1 Hamilton Accies 0:

This game took place two days after the Scottish Cup Final where Celtic (2-1 winners v Aberdeen) secured the Double. The team had no doubt been busy and ‘carousing’. The trophy itself had gone on display at Celtic Park on the Sunday and was shown to the crowd at this game on the Monday evening. This was more than the crowd at Hampden had been allowed where, having accepted the trophy and held it aloft to the fans, the team had not been allowed to circuit the park to show it off but had been ushered back to the dressing room by the SFA officials.

My Grandfather started taking me to games when I was 4 years old (I even got to the Coronation Cup Final the year before). Strange that this game was on a Monday night – who would have though that another Monday night (in 1979) would prove to be my greatest ever Title Party when – 10 Men won the League!

Savour the day Bhoys and Ghirls – H!H!

  11. If the MSM is right we’ll be losing 16 players this summer, but we’ll still no be cash rich like sevco (lol)

    1 Fraser Forster – he’ll be off

    2 Adam Matthews – Liverpool/ Cardiff

3 Emilio Izaguirre – west ham

    4 Efe Ambrose – liverpool

5 Rami Gershon – he’ll be sent back I would guess

    6 Kevin Wilson – newcastle

7 Miku – he’ll be sent back I would guess

    8 Scott Brown – he’s staying

9 Georgios Samaras – Italy (Florentine)

    10 Anthony Stokes – he’s staying

    11 Lassad Nouioui – he’s staying

    15 Kris Commons – he’s staying

    16 Joe Ledley – Cardiff

    18 Tom Rogic – he’s staying

20 Paddy McCourt – free transfer

    21 Charlie Mulgrew – he’s staying

23 Mikael Lustig – some Russian club

    24 Lukasz Zaluska – he’s staying

25 Thomas Rogne – free transfer

    32 Tony Watt – he’s staying

33 Beram Kayal – west ham, Norwich

    46 Dylan McGeouch – he’s staying

    49 James Forrest – tottingham

    56 Filip Twardzik – he’s disappeared

67 Victor Wanyama – man u, man city, arsenal

    88 Gary Hooper – EPL

  12. Watching Swansea v Southampton. Swansea have Ki, of course and Morten Wieghorst on the bench. Southampton’s defence includes Boruc, Fox and Hooijveld. You just wonder how our current squad would do in the EPL., because, apart from Ki and Boruc, who we have are better and arguably, we have as good as those 2 too.

Just win the league this afternoon, Celtic, please, even though I can’t be there. TV kick-off times make me angry…

  13. praecepta

    10 Men won the League!

If I recall correctly there was a media blackout of some sort no

    CQN and no mobiles.

Being an ml4 bhoy who was not at game I remember standing at the calder bridge at the bottom of the forgewood hill waiting on news of the result.

I can still hear the car horns in my mind now and the sight of the 240 glasgow bus “rocking2 with delighted Tims.

To this day I can still remember where I was standing with my mates – Celtic End No.2 exit about 20-30 steps down from the back wall.

Much; cheering, lateral movement (back then it was called dancing), hugging and quite a few greeting – can still picture Murdo’s screamer!

Im not getting picked up till 11 alarm was set for 9 up before 7 like a kid on Christmas day.

Enjoy today my Brothers and sisters and spare a thought for those no longer with us.

    Is it time yet:))

  20. Hoops missed a ” day” , typing whilst eating scrambled egg & pancakes.

Bus in half hour, hope we all enjoy our Day

    Hail hail

  21. Kayal33

an out and out winger on the left side would make us a better team and if we can get a powerful aerial threat in the box I’d be very happy. I would not look towards Doyle, don’t think we should divert from our signing policy (younger player) unless its a no brainer i.e. class, doyle is good

Can anybody tell me why a bunch of bagpipes just woke me up in gg?

There’s some big walk on but wanna know what it is. I ain’t complaining too much as there ain’t any sashes.

Lets give us all a game to remember Celtic.

    Do it the Celtic way.

  23. Snake Plissken on

Hopefully we get this done today and we can celebrate.

As an extra idea looking at the bottom 6 fixtures St Mirren are not out of the woods yet.

They now go to Edinburgh twice, then have the Dons at home before finishing at Killie.

Dundee on the other hand with a bit of momentum have 3 home games with Hearts Aberdeen and Kilmarnock before finishing at Easter Road.

Wouldn’t it be something if Dundee could pull off the greatest ever great escape and St Mirren went down?

    Would that mean another vote?

  24. Today is what it’s all about,

as the most successful club in Scottish football we have had many similar days, there is talk from soup takers that this one is somehow devalued, I don’t understand that thinking what I do understand is that every title every trophy every success we achieve is done fairly, without fear or favour, that’s the way it is, that’s the way its always been, that’s the way it always will be.

    Hail Hail Glasgow Celtic FC

    Good morning bhoys and ghirls….

Lovely wet morning in the north east….

I am however as Neil puts it “in joyous mood”….

We owe ICT one hell of a beating….

    I’ll settle for 1 nil though….. :>)))))

  27. Good morning from Barcelona. The weather is still glorious and Barca moved closer to La Liga title last night, albeit a little unconvincingly.

However as I enjoy an OJ and and a gently swelling Med, I am troubled by the possibility I made an error of judgement a few weeks ago.

Not so much that, along with most other observers, I was fascinated by the tragic/comedy moment that was Bomber Brown addressing the Mob outside of Ibrox. What is troubling me is that I didn’t immediately make an obvious link when the Whyte Sevco 5088 tapes story broke in The Sun 2 weeks ago.

I will admit that I did have the thought that Bomber was maybe onto something after all, however until 2 minutes ago I never made the more obvious and more important connection

Bomber was on his way out at Ibrox, that must have been immensely painful for him. He expressed himself in a way , that if it had been Neil Lennon, then the SFA would immediately have slapped a Sine Die ban on him.

However in his pain, and street rhetoric , the significance of who also knew what Bomber knew slipped past. It seems to me that it is impossible that what Bomber knew was not shared with McCoist and Walter Smith.

Yet how did these 2 Bastions react . Bomber stuck up 2 fingers at Green, told him to stick his job, and headed for the Front Door to spill the Beans and make himself a figure of ridicule.

McCoist stayed put, accepted close to £1 Million worth of shares and jumped on the bandwagon by enthusiastically championing the season book sales pitch. Walter took a seat on the board and a £50,000 salary for a modest amount of part time work. How many shares he was awarded, if any, isn’t clear.

Yet it is beyond believable that they did not have the same information that Bomber had. Which leads to one of 2 conclusions

    1. They didn’t believe Bombers information, which now calls their judgement into question

    Or

    2. They did believe it, which calls something much more serious into question

  28. normanstreet49

I would settle for 1 point

    Just get it done celtic.

Ohhhhh and Efe to score anytime in 90mins:)).

  29. Top of the morning to you all from a wet West Fife where the rain is easing and sunlight is breaking through the clouds in parts.

I hope the sun shines for the righteous at Celtic Park today and the fans stay behind to give Lenny a big hand after stuffing Masonic moaner Butcher’s 11.

    Hail Hail

  30. MacKay-Steven is undoubtedly a cracking wee player but two words come to mind as discussed earlier in the blog – Shaun Maloney. M-S has a history of being injury prone, whether physically or mentally, like Shaun, I am not sure. This will not have escaped the notice of NL and others at CP. I still wouldn’t say no to him if the price was right.
