New Balance for Celtic

860

New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor.  The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.

Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements.  It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.

Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.

Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite.  After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd.  We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.

The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us.  She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

So his plan is to copy the Mint and spend other people’s money. The only problem is investors and banks have wised up to the basket case that is Sevco and this may not be as simple as he thinks.

On lawells press conference the day if we had a good man in charge of the pr at the club those questions wouldn’t have been entertained and the press woulda been told what they can/can’t say.

But not celtic. We have a self proclaimed hearts fc fan Ian jamieson workin in the pr department.

That job should be for somebody who cares about the club not a wan*** like that.

thomthetim … and I fully support that … I want Celtic, the Irish, Catholics, etc., to be not only accepted but embraced in Scotland … and I hope one day they will … but, if the price of acceptance today is pandering to their bigotry, then that is too high a price to pay, and I would rather we continued to fight our corner and eventually, when we win, it will really mean something.

I thought the booing was regarding 2 minutes extra time.

Forrest should not be put in that position, this is the second time RD has made an error taking off GMS and playing Forrest.

He should not be in the team.

Wont tackle, wont hit byeline, wont track back, runs inside as no one tackles a player running crossfield and that his problem he has no courage .

Wakaso is more robust and worth a run as is Henderson.

  5. great to hear we’ve got a big brand deal – well done celtic – I know the quality of the team and Rd are the most important thing but there’s a whole unseen world of business-running which goes on day after day and which is going to deliver us 10 in a row.

Deja Vu – from French, literally “already seen”, is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has been experienced in the past, regardless of whether it has actually happened.

I remember a blinking McLeish being dragged into a post match interview after we’d skelped them, after Le Guen had been acquired. He basically ran a short PR for the new manager.

The press rolled with it. I can always remember thinking that they/them/those ones had this strange mindset when beset by troubles – that

    a) they shouldn’t be in that situation, no matter the causes or culprits of being there

    b) they were frightening in their ability to just sort of deny and particular low’s existence, as if a strong enough resolve could make it untrue. That the unacceptable ceased to be or never actually was

    c) they could evoke some magic wand or totem to return them to where they perceive themselves to deserve to be – the very hubris which took them there but – see b)

    d) they were sure everyone (The Press & then every other facet of Scottish Football) agreed with this, much lauded and honourable pursuit.

    And guess what…?

    I’m getting Deja Vu.

Only it’s David Kingcon this week. I’ve heard it all before. Agents of the press have heard it all before.

BBC Scotland ran with STV’s resident hurting Orc ( Peter Smith ) who dreamed up the questions, they work in cahoots in Scotland, and I posted in 2012 that Celtic would continually be made to suffer for Rangers in liquidation.

It’s a fever pitch just now because ‘ passions are running high ‘ and the reincarnation is doing worse than the original.

It’s relentless and Peter Lawell and Celtic are perfectly well aware that the press conference was agenda driven, in an attempt to slur and minimalise the biggest kit deal ever in Scotland.

STV crossed the line today. It was a direct attack on the club. It’s not personal for me just business. Make an example of them. Ban them from Celtic Park until end of 2015 and review then.

Advise others that Celtic will no longer tolerate such attacks.

Lawwell does not have the balls to do this. he is too weak and acts like a victim.

I don’t live in UK as Europe based and STV means zilch to me. It’s any easy target and Lawwell must make an example of them….otherwise he ia spineless coward not fit to run Celtic.

I don’t see where we are “selling our souls” or pandering to bigotry.

There are many opinions amongst Irish people and, within Ireland supporters of all the Parties and none.

No one is less Irish for not supporting the Provo cause.

I know and am friends of some of those people.

One thing I know about the Celtic supporting ones, is that they know where and when to celebrate their politics and where and how to celebrate their Celtic.

This is a rather clumsy way of saying that the club welcomes those of all political and other beliefs, as long as it is Celtic that is being celebrated.

It shouldn’t just be lip service.

To that end, I believe that anything that has nothing connected to the club, should be kept for another theatre.

  23. The words attributed to Dempsey in the Record are far more damning than any talk of ‘demotion’

On the one hand, the words sound surprising from a man steeped in the history of arch rivals Celtic but less so when consideration is given to the socialist principles that have underpinned his life.

Dempsey said: “Since Rangers were demoted, Scottish football hasn’t been the same. It has damaged the game.

“I don’t know of any other trade association that would have responded by kicking and putting down a member club and fining them more and more money.

“The authorities should have looked at that episode and used it to reorganise the game for the better, asking what they could do to save and protect Scottish football.

“I accept the problems at Rangers were self-inflicted.

“There must be leadership and perhaps an appropriate line of discipline should have been taken against directors or other shareholders at fault.

“However, I feel for the thousands of fans who are loyal to their club and who were innocent of any wrongdoing.

“The ones who have suffered most have been the Rangers fans and with my Labour background I find that appalling and unacceptable.”

‘no one is less irish’ …I dont disagree …

but, otherwise, we will have to disagree about what it means to be a follower of Celtic…

what I have a problem with is the freedom of some to hate us/celtic for our beliefs in that area (or even the perception that we might have such beliefs because of our background) …..

I agree that, in a perfect world, politics would be left at the gate … but the reality is Celtic were only formed because of the politics which lead to a disproportionate percentage of irish in scotland being amongst the poor … it is not by accident that Celtic were formed by a priest in the east end of glasgow … and even today, 50,000 (or however many show up every week at Ibrox and Tynecastle, etc.) still show up and sign their songs of hate ….

the act of asking PL about the IRA is a political act .. the act of not questioning the practice of religious bigotry in Scoltand, and allowing that bigotry to continue to inform Scottish football is a political act ….

Until those elements are removed from the discussion, and the sevcoinians stop hating us and our club for no reason other than where we were born and/or what our religion is, then these things have everything to do with Celtic ….

that is not to say that we need to be singing Men Behind the Wire at Celtic Park, but we should no longer be treated as second class citizens by the establishment, nor should we just allow ourselves to be just a source of revenue for those running Celtic …
