New Balance for Celtic

860

New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor.  The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.

Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements.  It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.

Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.

Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite.  After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd.  We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.

The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us.  She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

Thanks for writing a gentle and tender tribute, and if I may say so, funny tribute to your Dad. Sad news as it is, you have actually managed to lift my spirits.

We acquiesce in the MSM’s hatred of us ..we accept them at CP ..we are advertising partners

Yet they do us down at every turn …

  3. Used to wear NB running shoes. Got sore ankles. Never mind. They are giving CEltic up to £29 Million over 5 years? Well, someone has to. Guess all my weans Celtic tops are now going to be ‘last seasons’ AGAIN. Hey ho. Could be worse. Celtic could be getting 75p for every £10 I spend on the jerseys and shorts and socks.

It could be even worse again – we could be buying Sondico tops as worn by no top club side ever……

I wonder if Sevco will have to start training with those crappy 2 for £6 Sondico fitbas as part of the conditions of the second tranche? That’d be funny…..

Who was the journalist who asked the IRA question?

Complaint should be sent to his editor, and to his MD. Explaining that sanctions will follow any similar attempt.

It would be particularly interesting, not to mention hilarious,if said journalist had at any time been known to sing certain songs, attend particular halls, march in crimplene on a Saturday.

  8. Why do Celtic put up with the SMSM, whoever asked the loaded question should be banished. This was nothing more than a set up to get a headline. Celtic should be smarter than this!

  9. I once drank in The Ra Bar. Thought it was hilarious. Brixton Academy early 1990’s. Named after the sun God Ra. I also discovered RaMen noodles at the same time. The silly young man that I was thought it amusing.

I do not however condone Ramen noodles or Ra Bars. I suspect there were non ra men drinking in the ra bar and i’ve never seen one eat noodles.

Random. But just as useful as the journo’s question today…….

Who was the journalist who asked the IRA question?

    Peter Smith STV, I believe.

I would be happy to be contradicted because he had been okay until today, I think.

  13. I must admit that I’m surprised PL allowed that press conference to be hijacked in such a fashion. He should just have cut them off and told them to keep it relevant. Unless of course he wanted to talk about those things?.

Can you ever imagine the Sevco top brass (whoever they are) being questioned in such a fashion?

BBC Scotland ran with STV’s resident hurting Orc ( Peter Smith ) who dreamed up the questions, they work in cahoots in Scotland, and I posted in 2012 that Celtic would continually be made to suffer for Rangers in liquidation.

It’s a fever pitch just now because ‘ passions are running high ‘ and the reincarnation is doing worse than the original.

It’s relentless and Peter Lawell and Celtic are perfectly well aware that the press conference was agenda driven, in an attempt to slur and minimalise the biggest kit deal ever in Scotland.

    Celtic remain a miraculous club.

  15. Why did PL entertain such a question?

I would’ve expected him to challenge the msm moron by asking what had this to do with a new kit launch. Hurting scum!

  16. Peter Lawwell being asked questions about the IRA at a presser?!

Great news re New Balance teaming up with Celtic over the next five years. Will give us another opportunity to try and make connections with Boston, a City you would think might have some affinity with our club, given the opportunity. Now, with both Celtic and Liverpool flying the flag so to speak, and with the latter owned by the owners of Red Sox home, Fenway Park you can put money on a game between the two clubs at that venue in the near future. If and when it happens Celtic really need to try and establish local connections in Boston and the surrounding areas, not just for the present but for future reference should American football ever get on a par with Europe, which I believe it eventually will. Should we fail to do so we will find that Liverpool will take take that mantel and run with it. Point being, it is not enough just to turn up in an American City, take the greenbacks and run. With Boston at least we have a chance of doing more, doing better.

    ==========================

Agreed. The Bostonians love their Irish heritage.

The Redsox, the Celtic of baseball, revell in it. Our connections are there, just needing primed.

They also have the most rousing club song I’ve ever heard, performed by the Dropkick Murphys; a belter of an anthem, can imagine a Celtic version of the chorus by the GB having the hairs on the back of your neck standing every time –

Agree , still better not to put the blood pressure up and get angry , a great big smirk and rejoice in their grief , the SMSM has actively contributed to Rangers Downfall , whilst attempting to prop up their childish output , hilarious

    That’s very true.

If only they’d confronted Bill Struth or the others in the bowler hat brigade, that created and nurtured sectarianism in Scottish football for generations?

If only they’d asked David Murray whose money he was spending?
