Newco confident, with some reason, but Brendan has the aces

691

“Feeling more confident than any time in the last five years” was the sentiment expressed to me by a Newco fan this morning. And with some reason. They have gone two months without defeat, while Celtic’s blistering runs of successive wins stopped; we’ve won three and drawn three of our last six.

Reasons for any marked change in results are usually varied. With the league won, Celtic rested players, while others were injured. Opponents have also paid attention to their Scott Sinclair Problem. Stop Scott getting the ball and you inhibit Celtic’s most potent danger.

You also have to factor in the reality that Brendan Rodgers has given 52 competitive pre-match team talks. There are only so many times you can vocabularise your rallying call before its effects diminish.

The contrast in the other Hampden dressing room will be stark. Brother Pedro’s accent will still appear fresh to his players, never mind his message. His tactical talks and implorations of effort will seem innovative, whether they are or not. For these reasons, and more, Newco players will fear nothing on Sunday.

This game will be more straightforward that Ross County last week. We know Newco are there to win, to knock us out of the cup, stop our Invincibility Quest and reach their second major cup final. We’ll not face 10 men behind the ball.

Having said all of this, you and me will both be stunned if Celtic don’t prevail. We have the better players, the better manager, we’ve faced many and varied challenges this season and come through impressively.

Dembele, Griffiths and Rogic are back and available. The manager has choices on who to play, and options to change the game, or freshen things up later.

That same Newco fan this morning accused me of selective memory, with good reason, when I said I couldn’t remember Ugo Ehiogu playing for Rangers. It was no less alarming to hear a fit and active man of 44 died so suddenly. Condolences to his loved ones. There but……….

  1. Alan Stubbs probably thinking ‘get me outa here away from these three pricks!’

    HH!!

  2. I took The Sheep to win 3-2 correct score at the the bookies @20/1.

Their “Defence” is absolutely shocking ( aye ok Hibees not much better), but The Sheep will bottle the final IF the Huns are there. ?

IF we can gub the Hun tmorra, We will overrun the Sheep in the Final !

From my living room, the hampdump pitch looks okay, especially with the dry weather for our game against THEM, SO “HOPEFULLY the pitch will be in our favour for playing silky soccer !

  3. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

The SFA website has a preview of tomorrow’s game.

(There is a link to it on News now Celtic)

Check out the section which highlights three previous semifinal clashes.

These halfwits simply cannot hide their unbounded bias towards their beloved.

BTW – sense some angst here about tomorrow? Why?

Celtic are superior. If they turn up they will win.

    Hail hail

  4. Hibees game, I started to watch BBC to avoid McCann etc on Sky.

BBC co commentator was the Hun Fud Steven Thomson who for 15/20 minutes or so was calling Hibs players by the Surname, and some Sheep players by their First names.

I switched to watch Sky coverage of the actual game, and back to Bbc for the “”Expert Opinions” of Willie feckin Miller…but at least Michael Stewart is watchable most times ?

Michael Stewart is a better option than Tanner, mcCann and Jimmy ” Orangeman” Calderwood !

Unlucky Hibees, good to see your support were STILL with you after the final whistle for the effort you put in during the 2nd…. 89 minutes !

The way that Hibs lost those first 2 goals was shocking, but they won’t need me to tell them that…..and the winner a big deflection…..they will be kicking themselves !

  5. As we see the soiled Ibrox curtain opened very slightly at the High Court – we must be so thankful to the custodians of our club. Celtic is run by honest people – OK they don’t get every decision and/or judgement call right, but they would never stoop to the depths of the Govan residents.

Squads come and go at Celtic Park, but without question,we have one of the most successful, capable & powerful board of directors, CEO and management teams in our history at this moment in time.

  6. I watched the semi on BBC my god! Nothing like impartial commentary, Aberdeen get the third (jammy) goal 30 seconds later…” Hibs getting a taste of they’r own medicine for scoring late in last years final, now they’ll have to suck on it”……now I ask you wtf is that all about? Hurting or what?

  7. onenightinlisbon on

Today’s game shows exactly how fickle a cup semi final can be. Aberdeen should have had the game sewn up before half time against opponents from a lower division. However Hibs dug deep and got back into it through hard work and determination that could have seen them win but for a lucky deflection for the Dons winner.

This will not be lost on Brendan, the team and our fantastic support re tomorrow’s game against Sevco. We are miles ahead of them in every department and should win easily. Nothing should be taken for granted and we must put them to the sword and back in their place. We must also be wary of them, this is their chance to wreck our treble dream and to win the only remaining piece of silverware this season.

I’s sure that skill, speed and talent will prevail though but that doesn’t stop the nerves from getting the better of me!

  8. I just went into my Hills account wow! Happy days, I haven’t bet since last week so I haven’t been in my account till today to put some cuddles on in the Scottish grand national, I had to double check my account, with it being Easter weekend last week and me being pizzed awe weekend I forgot to check my daft wee four draws I put on every week, low and behold :))

  12. Lenny showed his qualities today as a Manager. Hibs looked dead and buried after 30 minutes. The decision to remove the already booked and ineffective Fyvie and replace him with Holt and subsequent tactical change completely altered the match. In the end Hibs looked the more likely and but for the deflection could easily have prevailed. Aberdeen may have progressed but they are fooling nobody, including themselves. They have better players than most SPFL teams so they win the majority of their matches. Any suggestion that the likes of McLean, Jack and Shinnie are International class is laughable. McIness was exposed today, his decision to remove Ryan Christie and replace him with a defender after 60 mins was a poor one. Should we progress as expected tomorrow, we will dispose of Aberdeen in the final very comfortably.

Nothing farcical at all about Scottish Football, led by those who “govern” it, is there?

And so much for those who say that the SFA has never said Sevco is the same club.

What else is being said in this sorry excuse for an article?

Or do they, in fact, have a Tardis??

  18. I hate giving THEM a goal…but what can I say…apologises to all.

hopefully it’s 3-0 to The Hoops on 90 minutes, and IF they score it’s in the 19th minute of injury time that no doubt the Ref will add on to give them any chance of getting back into the game.

    COYBIG

  19. Ruud Gulliut talks WAN LOAD OF PASH !

I’m probably the only guy in the world that didn’t rate Ruud G in his playing days as highly as others /

FFS…I could have looked good playing in that Dutch team…Van Basten etc etc.

  20. Unlucky Neil, you got yer team right back in it. I think I jinxed it by coming back in the house at the moment they scored their 3rd.

Aberdeen will be an easier proposition for Celtic than a Neil Lennon Managed Hibs, thats for sure.

It is a big step up from the Championship to the SPL. Neil is getting older and wiser. He is only 45. ;))
