Next year’s Jackie McNamara, Rovers, Kieran

538

Of course, it happened in our ’67 anniversary season. Celtic were drawn away to Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup, as the Rovers dumped Queen of the South out of the competition last night. The tiny Lanarkshire club (arguably the smallest in Scotland) don’t have an illustrious history, but Jock Stein played more games for them than any other team. In Coatbridge, that counts.

I’m sure it makes sense for Kieran Tierney to have a shoulder operation while he’s out with an ankle injury but it’s very unwelcome news that the player needed the work. Despite upbeat reports I’m sceptical the op will not further delay his return. For a start, any notions of getting upper body work done are no longer valid.

Uniquely in European football, Celtic’s season is skewed to the start, not to when the prizes are given out at the end, which have become a meritocratic formality. With no European football after Christmas this season, the remainder of the campaign will be about getting ready for July and August, when the really important stuff takes place.

Kieran will miss three Champions League group stage games in total, last Sunday’s cup final and some atmospheric games to come; this will be the source of some regret to the teenager. In compensation he can look forward to picking up a league winner’s medal at the end of the season, and hopefully being in top condition for the qualifiers.

To be fair to Robbie Neilson, even when he was a success at Hearts he wasn’t overwhelmingly appreciated. This season it looks like the party’s over, so I understand why he would take a job at MK Dons which, on the face of it, looks like a dangerous step.

Dons are two points above relegation (to the fourth tier), without a league win in two months. The club has serious structural issues which any new manager would find difficult to compensate for with little more than a few fresh tactical notions. But at least Neilson can’t be blamed for relegation, should it happen.

He’s next year’s Jackie McNamara.

I had a very serious point to make tonight about some shit I heard about something or other.

    But I can’t remember .

  2. For any lurking monkeys. Worry not all the respected pundits and journalists are stating how much will be spent on bringing in those elusive, dream superstars to bolster the squad and help push Celtic all the way for the title.

    Pfffftttt :-)

  3. Sometimes it’s easier to see things clearly from the outside. Looking back at last season i held faith with Ronny pretty much until the end. Now i can see it was fairly obvious it wasn’t working and wasn’t going to work long before that. At least there were some good signs though.

Re Warbo, how anyone can think he is the answer is beyond me. Had a quick look on FF there and quite a few are still behind him. Tonight his team were utterly abject in every way. It’s clear the likes of Waghorn and Tavernier have long chucked playing for him. He tactics, signing policy and general assessment of things is quite laughable. The longer he stays in place the better for us as the point when you realise it isn’t working and won’t work has long past.

Jimmynotpaul, great result for our young team tonight and Luke was involved in all 3 goals.

I can’t stand Wengerand Arsenal so along with our young team winning, the kid on club and Arsenal losing, its been a very good night on the football front.

  5. For all my revulsion with Hearts/Tynecastle some of my best Celtic memories have been there.

    1) the day they played American Pie at half time and the whole Celtic support joined in.

    2) when they put in yellow, polystyrene pads on top of the temporary seats and we made them into crosses!

    3) winning the title there last season.

    4) a few years ago when they first segregated the Roseburn Stand and I was in the final seat before the segregation.

    Ahhhh memories.

    Tyncastle memory.

Paul mcstay equaliser in extra time.first day of the season.

And we won the league.last day of the season.

  7. Dallas.

    Thanks for that.

I’ve just been talking to his brother, everyone pleased with result and, from a selfish point of view, his performance.

He’s now in the last year of his contract, so he has to stay fit and put in performances like tonight.

  8. TTR

I actually don’t think players have stopped playing for him. I think it’s down to two things.

    1) these players looked good against poorer opponents and are now struggling.

    2) tactically, he’s clueless. That was evident in his analysis of tonight’s game. He claimed to know what Hearts were going to do yet in 94 minutes he didn’t change his system to counter it. His option was to bring on two players who’ve recently been dropped because of how poor they’ve been.

In time, you’ll be right, he will either lose the players or his job.

  9. Warbiola interview shows a man who is in the process of losing it.

Can they afford to fire him or will he simply chuck it?

  10. From FF…

“Was that really Rangers I’ve just been watching ? The same Rangers that had Woodburn, Shearer, Baxter, Greig, Smith, Brown, McCoist, etc”

It’d take a heart of stone not to laugh…

  11. HT

Yes true, most, if not all of the players are plain not good enough for a start. I suppose it’s a bit of everything.

Warburton suffering from media-hyped over-expectations and un-met promises about £30m warchests.

If he has any sense he will jump ship at the first chance.

  13. Just watched our cup win from the weekend again. Something I failed to appreciate at the time (the pub was noisy) and the most irritating thing about the coverage was the whistler. No – not the ref, but the person who seemed to whistle throughout the game. Whoever was standing next to him/her must have been deaf by the end!

  14. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

HT, spot on. The players aren’t skilful enough to do what he wants them to do against superior opposition.

They were ok against postmen and plumbers but up against a reasonable level of opposition they aren’t good enough.

In 10 days time I expect them to be 6 points behind Hearts, same games played; 4 points behind Aberdeen, played 2 games more; 14 points behind Celtic, played 3 games more.

They’ll be 4th and just in front of St Johnstone and Motherwell. By the start or 2017 we could be more than 20 points ahead of them with a game in hand!

I reckon there’s more to his appointment at Sevco than meets the eye.

The gap between Sevco and Hertz looked even greater tonight than it did when they were scrapping over the championship a couple of seasons ago.

    Mediocrity 2-incompetence 0.

They must be so jealous of their wee cousins, who have actually made some progress -))

A few years ago a wee mate of might picked up four jambos in his taxi at 2am. George Square to Edinburgh, he quoted £50..They pleaded with him to take 45 and leave 5 for fags. He agreed, money up front, and set off up London Rd but on passing the holy ground the jambos launched into the usual vile,Pope,Fenian bs the lot.

Just up the road, wee mate was asked to stop at the garage for snout. To his extreme joy they all got out. Wee mate shot the craw.

  19. Warburton is a Mowbray, decent guy, sold a pup, ends up talking in riddles, protecting w@€£@#s in the Boardroom, well out his depth

  20. I see that Sevco have played 3 more games than us ? That’s some gap between us and the new club. My question is does Sevco keep playing (while we don’t) until they make up the gap. Cunning, cunning SPFL.

How many additional games will it take Sevco to close the gap ?

A big HH from Gran Canaria. Not seen a single Sevco shirt so far. Big Mike will be ………………well perfectly content I guess.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Jimmynotpaul, I saw Luke last season when he came on as a sub v Real Sociedad and he did well.

Even though he is tall, he plays ad an attacking midfielder rather than a forward.

  22. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

My joint favourite games at Tynecastle beating them 4 3 after being 3 1 down. Danny and Kenny were immense at that game then 8 years later, we beat them 5 1 whenchoccy scored a hat trick. Tommy also scored a cracker by passing it into the net past the man who dropped the ball a lot.

Ps Willie Gibson scored a first half hay trick for Hearts on that 4 3 game.

  23. Also posted on FF… (can’t vouch for its accuracy…)

Default Can We Have A Serious Discussion About Key Sports Management

The number of players we have purchased from this agency in particular is increasing by the windows.

In the first window under Warburton we signed two players from the agency, Waghorn and Tav. We also tried to snap up John Eustace who we chased for a disproportionate amount of time for someone who was quite obviously finished in the game. We did though go on to get Zelalem on loan, yes another KSM client.

Again we went back to them in the summer for Matt Crooks.

As some might recall, there was a hold-up in the Garner deal. He changed agents. Not surprisingly welcomed to the KSM family and thus the deal was completed.

If you look through the client list, a number of players on there have been signed by McParland/Warburton at Brentford.

If you look further at their staff, Warburton’s daughter is KSM’s “Player Services Manager”. I also believe Warburton’s son does a bit of work for them however I am unable to confirm that 100% at the moment.

It’s a big wide world out there, with players across the globe. Dipping into Key Sports Management client list probably doesn’t really constitute “scouting”.

Keevins tipped Sevco for the league. Barry Ferguson had seven sevco players in his Parkhead Govan select.

That’s the reigning champions with a top drawer EPL manager against a team who’d won something like 3 out of 12 games, coming from a lower league.

I’ve run out of words to describe the msm in this country.
