Nir Biton, preparations for the ArenA

1993

There will have been tired limbs at Lennonxtown when the players resumed full training yesterday after their exertions on Tuesday night but they will still be desperate to take to the field at Firhill on Sunday.  This game is a necessary preparation ahead of the Amsterdam AreanA in 12 days.

We have an advantage for Amsterdam…..

Ajax are nip and tuck with a handful of clubs near the top of the Dutch league.  They have three home games in the league and cup before facing Celtic and the pressure is on to win each of them.  Ajax don’t have the ability to allow players extended recuperation time to ensure they are in pristine condition for Champions League duty, Celtic do.

I would rest everyone we don’t have good cover for.  This is also a game for Nir Biton to start.  The player needs to get back in the saddle as quickly as possible after Tuesday, he is also unlikely to see Champions League group stage action again this season.

After his international and other duties, Charlie Mulgrew would benefit from a rest.  We don’t have sufficient cover for James Forrest and Beram Kayal, so send them away for the weekend.

Use every advantage possible.

Interesting article in the Sunday Herald sports section re Dave King

    Two points are of note

The first bring the King hasn’t spoke to the SFA re his acceptance as a fit and proper person ….presumably he assumes that the SFA will dimply accommodate sevco in the same fashion as they have thus far

The second is Regans comments re Whyte and the undertaking given by Green et al that he wasn’t involved ….are they investigating this or simply relying on the sevco sponsored internal investigation which didn’t speak to most of the parties …or is this more vacuous comment from lame duck Regan

I despair with the SFA and our custodians acquiescence in their accommodation of all things sevco

Good luck to Lenny and the bhoys in thee Glasgow Derby, Aberdeen second is good to see, I wanted to see the sleeping East Coast Giants of Scottish Football taking advantage of ameggedion.

Still lets not let the upstarts get too close, we want to have the league wrapped up before our Europa Cup run gets serious…

I sincerely hope you’re right but it begs some serious questions about our strategy in the previous window.

The rumours are that Finbogasson was the second striking target in recent times which the club could have secured early for a fee that they baulked at but which was ultimately surpassed either in the asking or ultimate selling price.

If true (I realise there is a significant ‘if’) and if (another one) the player does arrive for the sort of figure you mention why on earth did we not do the deal earlier?

It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Personally I’ll be very surprised. Past behaviour strongly implies the club have an unofficial transfer ceiling of 2.5 million…

I’d be surprised if you didn’t get a ticket outside. Even if you don’t there’s a few good Tim pubs round about to watch the game.

  8. looking back at last seasons exploits in the CL, we got two games v Juve in the last 16……….would a run to the final of the Europa Cup have been preferrable.?

Our team will not win the CL this season, would finishing third in our group and then having the chance of another seville be a better option than reaching the last 16 again.?

“I fulfilled a long standing ambition on Tuesday when I sat in the stands to watch Celtic play a European game at Celtic Park. The experience against Ajax didn’t disappoint & it was one of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced. At times on Tuesday it felt like the ground was shaking, not least when 60’000 started doing the huddle. It was difficult to keep an eye on the game as I kept looking around to take it all in. The noise was deafening.”- Jamie Carragher.

Haven’t read back yet, but have just been reading the Sunday Times and it confirms what I have been saying all week…..dave ming hasn’t been anywhere near the SFA….his spin / fabrication is all aimed at gaining the votes of the hoardes, by pulling the wool over their eyes……and now that the SFA have denied even any contact, plan B is brought forward “I was referring to AIM, not the SFA” …… Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ….. Fit and proper person, my erse……… Conman, most definately …. They deserve each other, a match made in hell……….sorry, but I’m raging when I think about their ‘aided’ 3 in a row, but laugh when I think on how they couldn’t then negotiate Europe ….. Which, then led to liquidation……serves them all right, including MSM…….right old mess they got themselves into ….. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  13. proud to be part of the celtic family –

That was precisely my take before a ball was kicked in the group stage.

With Barcelona and Milan in the group, third place would not be a failure and while I’d love us to qualify for the last 16, I would accept third as it gives us a more realistic chance of an extended run to a semi-final or final.

If we even got to the last 8 of the CL it would be a marvellous achievement, but beyond that? Not a chance. Not this season anyway.

We could win the Europa League, so third place I would be very happy with.

Anything less than that would obviously be a big disappointment.

  14. Morning all. Wild and wet down here.

I see the BBC is (very tentatively) mentioning followers of thon deid team in the Army giving the nazi salute. This seems to have happened in Afghanistan more than 3 years ago. What about what happened in Govan no more than 3 or 4 weeks ago?

See SKY are debating racism in Russia. What about sectarianism in Scotland. Patrick Barclay is calling for CSKA to be banned, Should not that deid team be buried?

Had to laugh at Prince William’s speech last night praising the work of Kick Out Racism.

Maybe he should look closer to home for greater representation of ethnic groups and Catholics in his own family.

  16. Apparently the Mail on Sunday (bear with me) has printed a photograph of Huns in uniform taking a break from shooting the locals in Helmand province and posing beside Union Jack and Red Hand flags while making what the ignorant and ill-informed might see as Nazi salutes. FFers explain matters:

“The whiff of popery around this is overwhelming.”

    ——

“The week of the poppy . And they pull this photo from years ago.

    Coincidence ? …Na me either”

    ——

“Negative press from a 4 yr old pic is at least partly a result of the press though. Armistice due. Baby George on the top”

    ——

“Complaints should be made towards the person digging up year old pictures and regurgitating as a story and all the mock offence this years old picture has again caused. To discredit the protestant faith .this country is being stripped from within by people with motives of evil bigotry.”

    ——

“Have a read of the comments there is 1 in particular that seems interesting.

It was about how the uniforms are from circa 2010/11 as they have since changed

    [Chelsea uniforms?]

    ——

“Exactly, when our fans do/done it, I have no doubt they mean it as a “red hand salute” but to the rest of Britain and Europe it is automatically associated with the nazis.

And by pushing your hand out at an angle it would look nothing like the red hand, surely pushing your hand up so the palm is vertical would of been better and wouldn’t look as bad”

    ——

    “Another mhank timmy mhedia job.

They forget the past when all celtc fans gave the nazi salute to their captain McNeil.

    Hail caesar they shouted.

No fkn mhedia outcry then was there.

Only now in this corrupt midden.”

    ——

“they have went over board on this , they even have a historian expert saying the red hand salute does not exist …lying scum b** tards”

    ——

“Rangers win 4-0 today, so the daily mail not wanting to write about our great win decide to dig out a photograph from 5 years ago”

It might have been easier to understand had “diss” not autocorrected to “did”

It was a reference to your lack of tolerance towards someone else’s posts,as opposed to the tolerance shown towards yourself when you go off on one.

    Hope that helps.

No Mulgrew, Forrest or Commons today.

Thought Mulgrew and Kayal’s partnership was the best aspect of Tuesday night’s game, but with Charlie out, would prefer to see Brown and Ledley return to central midfield. Mostly negative feedback on Pukki, but I thought he played very well – could be alternative to Commons behind the striker. Stokes and Izzy on the left looked very dangerous in the Motherwell game. The big question mark lies over who will play RM with Matthews, Commons and Forrest out.

  25. Time to give some of the youngsters/fringe players a run out today. Back 4 will remain along similar lines as we have no alternatives other than Fisher at right back. Biton should be put straight back in to make amends for Tuesday. Thistle centre half pairing a bit lightweight from what I’ve seen this season (& last) so Amido should get a chance. Rest many of our big hitters, leave them on the bench in case they are required later in game.
