Nomme Kaljur biggest game of the week is tonight

449

In a little over five hours, Nomme Kalju are in domestic league action, their 20th game of the season.  2018’s champions are level in the battle for third place with tonight’s opponents, Paide, so this will be a competitive encounter.  All things considered, the forthcoming games against Celtic are less important than finishing third and qualifying for Europe next season.

They are five points off second and 10 from the top of the table.  It has been a disappointing campaign for the two-time Estonian champions, the most significant positive being this week’s Champions League qualification win in Macedonia over Shkendija.

Like Kilmarnock, who went down to the other CQN last night, Shkendija are preseason, and having won away, should comfortably have taken care of business in the second leg, but weakness in the other kind of legs is likely to have been their downfall.  Both teams were clearly drained from their first competitive action of the season, leading to bizarre results.

Nomme probably have the lowest economic footprint of any club Celtic have faced in European football (Lincoln Red Imps may just edge them).  Wednesday’s game at Celtic Park will certainly contribute more to the economy than their entire 2018 exploits.  This tie is a fairy tale for Nomme Kalju, who will transform their 2019 economic footprint with TV rights for the home game, and a gift to Celtic, who had the far tougher task of overcoming Rosenborg at the same stage a year ago.

The European draw gods were unkind last season, let’s hope they continue to pitch softly to us for another few rounds.

Sky’s coverage of the Open has been terrific. I thought the course was magnificent and have played it albeit a few years ago. It was great to see Shane triumph..Koepka Harrington n McDowall all waited to congratulate him a touch of class.

Shane’s ball and shoe markings were another highlight as was the comment “a united Ireland behind Lowry” 🇮🇪😁🇮🇪 🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️

Back to the soccerball on Wednesday

joke, trying to save a couple of hundred grand by getting a guy on deadline day is unacceptable,

    Based on what ?

  3. Watched one of sports greatest sporting events on Sky today as the BBC, had netball on. You couldn’t make it up

    Well done Shane

  4. St Tams

As I said the other day BBC happy to pay £200m+ per year for EPL highlights ( not including Linneker’s millions and Shearer’s £400k)

  5. Laughed out of town when I suggested that we sign Moreles and Tavernier.

Just give the zombie club £7-8million for the two players.

That’s the right back and striker positions fixed.

    The Columbian midfielder also sign.

    Good to go then.

    Stop wasting time Celtic.

More or less would be sent off every game if he was in the hoops

    Not for me

  7. Republics under 20s have qualified for the semi finals of European Championships. A great achievement as they were short 7 or 8 of their better players including Troy Parrott & our Luca as their Clubs wouldn’t release them.

Only sour note is that 2 of their better players received crazy yellow cards in last few minutes that puts them out of semis.

By the way the winner tonight was scored by Celtic’s Barry Coffey who had come on as a substitute,

  8. Big Shane

Looked like a big leprechaun smiling contentedly those last few holes, what a fantastic champion and ambassador for Irish golf. LAZYDYNAMITE I would have to disagree Ireland has as many good links as Scotland in my opinion,I’ve been fortunate to play a lot in both countries, funny enough Portrush was one of my least favourites as it has so many blind shots. If you look up best courses in British Isles Ballybunion Waterville and Royal County Down are always at the top.HH

  9. GENE – Probably

That’s why we deploy a psychological expert though, to help calm him down a bit.

Morelos … I think is a half decent centre forward who works his socks off and scores goals … still think we have better but I could be wrong

Taverneir ???? We have enough worries at right back without signing somebody who canny play right back :-)

  11. BADA BING,

Just how would you propose we buy in players at this time, who are “Match fit”.We have been trying to sign a RB.We bid £8 million for Casstagne. We took Toljan, who had a decent reputation, and playing with Dortmund,on loan, and he was no good.If we had just bought him outright for £7 million, all the fans would have been going crazy, without seeing him.How would that have worked out?We have bid for two English RBs,who not many wanted.I prefer to leave it to the management, because ,as was the case with Toljan,we know FA.

  12. Go tell the Spartim on

Of course the management have shown how well they’ve done before signing a decent right back 🤔

So after 14 months (at least) looking for Lustig’s replacement, we still haven’t signed one….terrific forward planning from LAST SEASON,

So you will be delighted when the 4th choice Isreali guy turns up this week?

We could have bid £8 million for Messi, but unfortunately we didn’t get him,….heard all the excuses, all the reasons….but let’s be happy with getting guys in for the most financially rewarding games of our season 10 days before….aye brilliant forward planning….a fkn joke, and I’m not alone in this assessment.

  15. Bada 9.05pm

Surely a bit unfair (if) our new Israeli signing turns up, you judging him before a baw is kicked ?

I still think, if nothing else, leave the worrying until we actually need too.. “if” there is a 2019 debacle like Athens 2018 then worry … worrying before hand, before the event isn’t good for anybodies health :-)

  16. !!Bada Bing!! on

BFTB- I am not judging anyone, it’s the lack of succession planning and forward thinking that is embarrassing ,Lawwell should have been sacked for the Boyata debacle, which cost the Club £10 m plus,he walked away for nothing, he didn’t sign a new contract last January, sell him,it’s not hard to work out. Also IMO Dembele was promised a move last summer, and it didn’t happen but he forced it through, another huge loss by not getting a replin.

  17. Bada 9.21pm

I get what your are getting at ,.. the forward planning stuff grates on my nerves … it’s difficult getting players to Scotland … it’s even difficult to keep Scottish players here :-)

We can hark back to Henrik & Lubo fur £650,000 & £300,000 but nobody ever mentions Mr Jansen & Mr Venglos knew the players and their situation contract wise … getting players to SPL these days is even more difficult when Bournemouth & Huddersfield, and even championship clubs like Stoke can blow us out of the water …. once players are here it might be easier to keep them but getting them here is the difficult part … hope the Israeli bhoy is guid yin, at least he wants to be here

  18. BADA BING,,

How much do you want us to pay for a RB.Is £8 million not enough. We tried,he was not that keen.Lenny said this week,he was still looking for CH cover. He has got some.2 CHs,and a left back signed.KT,still with us.Some fans you just cant please. If we had signed a RB,it would have been, what about the other striker.

I really prefer to be pissed off, when I have reason to be,not be pissed off thinking “What if”..

As for the Beer Sheba guy, have you seen him play? Why have a downer on the guy.

I really dont understand this attitude.Sorry.

  19. Jeepers Bada if we had sold him last January it could have cost us the Treble. You can’t have it both ways. Pillory the Board for selling and Pillory them for keeping a key player albeit it was going to cost us.

  20. !!Bada Bing!! on

GFTB- agree, a lot of ships have sailed since the legends came in,there are players in very good leagues who would come in for 12-15 k a week,as i posted earlier, we can afford about 80% of the right backs in World football, still waiting…..HH

I must have missed us signing an £8 million right back….. ,I have no issue with the Israeli guy ,it’s the timing

  22. BADA BING,

“PL should have been sacked for the Boyatt scandal”PL could have got £9 million for Boyatta, but was told by BR,he was staying. Is this not true.So whatever way,PL is damned, sell or keep.Re Boyatta and Dembele, blame Rodgers.Or is it me who is re-writing history?.

    That greedy,money hoarding,biscuit tin mentality,PL,could have got £9 million and refused.Eh !!!!!!!!.

  23. Bada 9.34pm

I saw your “80%” post about right backs and nodded in agreement then thought … if we get in the CL proper one of the other 20% top notch players might fancy a wee stint in the east end of Glasgow … which might be more beneficial when trying to get 3rd in the group stages :-) … born to dream

  24. !!Bada Bing!! on

TB’ your quotation marks are out, if any player refuses an extension to his contract, you sell him, not difficult….get a replacement in first, then punt him,it’s not hard…

  25. BADA,,

Its fact we offered £8 million for Castagne,he did not want to come.

I honestly have no idea what you mean about the “Timing”of the Beer Sheba guy.Is their a bad time to sign a player?.Anyway, its pointless debating this subject with you,as your mind is made up.

Did you get my post the other day about the 4 part series.”When They See Us”.Amazing TV.

  26. !!Bada Bing!! on

GFTB- we have given ourselves to be a great platform for guys to come in,do well and it works for all, unfortunately that’s where we are as a Club right now, Forster, Wanyama, Van dijk,…

  27. Bada 9.50pm

Exactly… even a platform for our own (KT & others) … it’s actually surprising we are still collecting trophies considering the players we have lost :-) swings n roundabouts :-)

  28. 4 days of wall to wall Open coverage by Sky (spit) was pretty fantastic. The final round didn’t quite have the ‘theatre’ but only because Big Shane was SO good and kept his distance from the chasing pack.

So, now it’s back to the fitba’ and I see that we are a mere 1/20 to win on Wednesday. Wth the home leg being first I really do hope that we adopt an attitude of going full pelt for the 90 minutes and securing a 3, 4 or 5 goal lead to take into the 2nd leg.

  29. glendalystonsils on

    Jobo

We are well capable of scoring 4/5 against this class of opponent with our attacking options . With our makeshift defence though , we conceded two really cheap goals to Sarajevo . Assuming we go in with the same defence I would settle for 2-0 with no away goals for Nomme.

  30. lets all do the huddle ? on

    jobo

    not sure about full pelt

heard neils interview on radio scootland as i was on my way home from the game the other night

he was asked about boli getting forward so much during the game, so he must have been pleased

but he said no, and he would have a word with him about it

    scary

if we cant allow our left back to charge forward at home against a team we pumped 3-1 away in the first leg

    very strange comment by him

  31. Hunderbirds are Gone on

I’m old school when it comes to first leg European ties at home. The away team not scoring gives you the best chance to proceed in the tournament. 0-0 is not a disaster.

  32. I saw someone post earlier that BBC were reporting Kieran had agree terms with Arsenal.

In fact the report is in their gossip column and they are quoting the following:

    https://www.footballinsider247.com/tierney-agrees-personal-terms-with-arsenal/

I take it with a pinch of salt as they are hiding behind an anonymous source

“An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that Tierney has agreed personal terms with the club, including a bumper signing-on fee and a five-year contract that will triple his current £25,000-a-week wages.”
