Ntcham signing and market change

615

Olivier Ntcham, 21, yesterday became the third most expensive signing in Celtic history, the initial payment was slightly north of the £4.5m quoted, and there are add-ons which are likely to take the total price above that which was paid for Chris Sutton and John Hartson.

The most striking element of the deal is that the player has played only 39 games in senior football. Compare this to van Dijk and Wanyama, who had played over 60 games before coming to Celtic, and you get an idea of how the transfer market has changed in a few years.

60 games is now too late. You need to be on the ground watching and ready to move inside 40 games. More than this and top talent will likely already be competitively priced out of reach.

A consequence of this trend will be an increase in one element of the transfer risk: any scout would prefer to see more than 39 senior games before making a recommendation. But this risk is mitigated by the fact that waiting on a player to increase in value, only introduces the risks associated with paying a higher price.

Then there is the risk of doing nothing at all………

What we do know is that everyone at Celtic, the management, scouts and board, are happy to have secured Olivier’s signature.

Welcome to Celtic, Olivier.

You know when the PSNI say, “The only way you can have the game in Belfast that week is if it’s on Friday and there are no away supporters”. Then Linfield insist on having the home game first due to TV money. Then someone else at the PSNI says they did not block Celtic fans from attending?

Well, that just happened.

Here is the new CQN Podcast…

  22. Apologises if this has been posted already ?

If we accept Belfast as a BRITISH city, why hasn’t the Brit government got involved in this situation when we knew Celts were due to play this Orange mob, as the PSNI DID in effect deem Belfast a ” no go area” for Celtic fans cos of the timing of the tie, as what we have now witnessed is one British Clubs fans, being told to stay away etc and dates being switched be cause of another British clubs fans Linfield hatred of Catholics ?

Never mind UEFA or SFA, why has a Brit government sat back and allowed British subjects to be subjected to this hatred in another so called British cilty ?

“Grifter”or not.I never miss him.In this era of Hun loving SMSM,he really puts the boot into all things rotten in Scotland.A refreshing change. No different to our own excellent Phil and James. If you think that Jackass in the Rectum is on 80 grand a year for spewing out his guff, would you call that a respectable form of”Grifting”.I would not.

  24. Celts game is on in pubs at Glasgow Cross and Salt market.

Another wee tip if anyone is ever looking for a beer on a Sunday morn in Glasgow city centre ?

The Tolbooth Bar at Glasgow Cross opens at 11am on a Sunday, instead of the usual 12.30.

No need to buy breakfast issues either.

As much as I agree,as I am sure we all do,and as much as I hate The Tories,I am not sure, apart from forced evacuation of all cretins from Belfast ,there is much any government could do.The place is a cesspit of bigotry.

    Has never,and will never change.

Thats why Brendans talk of “A new NI”gets right on my wick.If that were the case,we would have no difficulty attending the game.

  29. An aristocrat has been jailed for 12 weeks after offering money to anyone who would run over and kill Gina Miller, the campaigner whose court fight forced the government to consult parliament before triggering the Brexit process.

Rhodri Philipps, the fourth Viscount St Davids, was convicted on Tuesday of two counts of sending malicious communications. He wrote on Facebook that he would put up “£5,000 for the first person to ‘accidentally’ run over this bloody troublesome first-generation immigrant”, soon after she won her high court case.

The judge told Philipps he had directed “extreme racial abuse” towards Miller and caused her distress. Sitting at Westminster magistrates court on Thursday, senior district judge Emma Arbuthnot said Philipps had attempted to justify his actions by claiming that public figures were fair game.

“Why public figures deserve this warped behaviour is beyond me,” she told him.

Philipps had also “proudly” told the judge his family’s motto was “love of country”. Instead, she told him, he had attacked people who disagreed with him and who had recently arrived in the UK. “You showed this hatred by publicly directing abuse at others, which is a criminal offence in this multicultural society we are fortunate to live in.”

Philipps, who is 50 and from the Knightsbridge area of central London, appeared in the dock wearing a pink shirt and green trousers and a waistcoat for his sentencing hearing.

12 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.I see his title had no effect on the sentencing then.

On a different note,if I were BMCUW,I would sue the bounder for flagrant copying of his “sartorial elegance”.
