One man’s cloud

1060

Adam Matthews has been on top form this season, his pace and partnership with Mikael Lustig have been unfailing for Celtic, so Neil Lennon will clearly feel robbed at a top players injury-enforced absence for three months.

It could be worse.

An injury to Forster, Ambrose, van Dijk or Izaguirre would be difficult to accommodate but we are not short of right side-midfield options.  James Forrest is now back from injury and although Derk Boerrigter joined as a left-sided player, he has already featured on the right for Celtic.  If Boerrigter plays on the left Samaras, Commons and Stokes can all feature on the right.

One man’s cloud is another’s silver lining, just ask Beram Kayal, who kept Victor Wanyama on the bench until he was injured in December 2011.  Victor got the run in the team he needed and never looked back.

Signing van Dijk was a response to an unexpected transfer request/not in the right frame of mind to pull a jersey on statement from Kelvin Wilson, but the major planned summer activity was to inject pace into the team for Champions League games, specifically through Boerrigter and Pukki.  For various reasons we’re not there yet, maybe Ajax at home later this month will change that.

Blown away by the 1254125 donations, which have flooded in since Friday. Each donor, from those who donated £5 to the several who gave £125 (like it!) are a credit to the spirit of those whose footsteps you walk in.  Promise to stop pestering with a link to the page.  Soon.

Thank you.

Pretty sure we don’t have dirty players in our history, but I might be biased.

Certainly many who could look after themselves, though. Most of who have been mentioned.

But I do remember one dirty bassa who scored a very important goal for us,to put us ahead in a league decider.

  13. The Majestic……braw! locals set our skip alight every other night ….then I sponsored the local Social Club team …no a bit of bother after that …braw!

  14. I was undercover in amongst jambos at Tynecastle and had a very good view the Websters crude tackle on Agathe . Agathe was in a lot of pain and was obviously seriously injured. The hearts huns all around me were screaming abuse at him as he was carried off.

He was never again quite the same player after that cowardly foul.

  15. The problem was (and probably still is) that if a Celtic player put in a hard tackle it was a straight jog to the dressing room and showers.

Opposing players (including Rankers 1872) would get wag of the finger (and a second, and a third…).

Anyway, I think we have enough evidence to claim that our style of fitba has always been to “play the game”.

The cards are aye stacked against us, but our day is coming again!

  20. I once asked a good Celtic supporting buddy of mine with a lot of knowledge about Celtic who was the hardest man he had seen play for Celtic and he said Jim Brogan. Strangely, I have a copy of Jimmy Johnston’s 45rpm record and the sleeve is autographed by Jim Brogan. This same friend had got me the record.

Hah just remembering a couple of my early faux pas at Celtic games…

    ——————————–

One of my favourite bits of the Road to Seville was the Liverpool game and BJH’s goal.

Watching it back later on and since I have always had a wee chuckle at the Scottish voice in the background manically yelling “what a goal” ad infinitem.

    Chapeau , Sir.

  22. shocking news for AM – worked hard, developed himself, talented, waited for his chance, sat on the bench, chopped down by not so talented

  23. If we had managed to bring in another left back in the last window, I hope we could have given Izzy a run as a defensive midfielder. Izzy is as naturally talented as anyone at the club. He has decent pace for the position. He is composed, and he can break over a 30 yard space to devastating effect.

He is also not a traditional cruncher in tackles , being more of a ball thief. Stealing the ball by having quicker feet than the opponent.

His biggest weakness at Left back is lack of height, which leaves him sometimes exposed to the long high diagonal. He could play in a Phillip Lahm type role for us now. I would much rather see him play defensive mid than Charlie, who is OK there, but extremely limited in breaking forward, or playing quick short passes.

Think outside the box. Whoever though Agathe would be a terrific wing back, or whoever thought the greatest goalscorer in World football would be a 5’6″ converted winger
