One man’s trauma and vulnerabilities

219

We don’t owe our modern greats anything, all of them were suitably compensated for services rendered, but one suffered more than most for wearing green and white hoops.  For what he endured to play for and manage Celtic, Neil Lennon will always receive my respect and gratitude.

He became the most racially abused person in Scotland’s history.  Even his treatment by his peers at court is a stain on a nation that lies to itself about its collective moral code with great conviction.

Oh, you didn’t know about the vulnerabilities?  Well, he has only written about and discussed them for the best part of a decade.  There can be no doubt these wounds were exposed during 2020.  When he needed support, he found levels of hostility without precedent, from some, because of his race, from others, because of football results.

The man at the centre of the storm will not care where you to fit these two groups into an ethical hierarchy, but I suspect I know the actions of which caused the most emotional trauma.  Still, football results, and all that.  Just because we can find a neighbour below us on the ethical scale, does not make us ethical.

  1. Quite remarkable reading Shorties guff this morning.

Crafty stuff, a meaningful message massaged horribly and perfectly by compliant stooges who fall silent when required yet sing in concert when the hun whistle is blown.

That kinda stuff takes a whole lot off effort, and mere money couldn’t buy it.

    Try combatting that mindset?

With what….a press release or a photoshoot?

    YerHavin’aLaffScoddland.

  2. Meant to add that in general with headlines like that its an ignore from me, I wonder how many actually read these?

  3. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Ziggy…,

CQN is just another clickbait website. As P67 has become just another MSM wannabe.

  4. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Lionroars.,

    On McCann and Kelly

“Of course, these men weren’t compromised, they didn’t sell their soul and lie for a 5-way agreement to save the Rangers and the business of the old firm”.

Unfrotunately you can be sure both would have done the exact that, McCann has already admitted as much.

It is indeed sickening that “rangers” as a club are trying to present themselves as a bastion of tolerance…what a joke…but does anyone really think that Kamara is lying?

    ——————————————————-

    I do!

Have you ever seen a hun player rolling about on the ground, feigning injury to get a free kick/an opponent red/yellow caeded/get a penalty?

    Once a hun………………………….

Andreas is someone we should be considering for a role with us, if not now then at some point in the future.

Not always been a big fan of the acronym CPD, but it does apply in his case.

    Continuous Professional Development

See Steve Tandy in Rugby Union, someone Dominic McKay will be very familiar with.

  7. Firstly, I agree that it’s laughable that Sevco as a club and some of their former players should take the moral high ground on bigotry.

However, as an individual, I don’t think Kamara was lying or that his reaction was fake.

In fact, a good friend of mine who lives in Trutnov tells me that the big debate in the Czech media and among conversation isn’t as to whether the guy is guilty but whether “monkey” is even really that offensive. The Slavia ultra’s banner after the game tells me all I need to know regarding the attitude some people have towards racism.

No love for Sevco but no sympathy for Kudela either.

  8. It’s all about the cup game. Talk of the hun going unbeaten in a closed door league carries little weight for me.

We must win the Cup because no one else will stop them from completing a double.

Should we win on Sunday then I’d care little about their league record.

Indeed Ronny’s achievement of winning the league alongside the league cup would represent a bigger achievement than Sevco’s unbeaten league run simply because we won two trophies.

Sunday is by far our biggest game, I’d take a win on Sunday and lose all the remaining league games. Sunday is huge.

the question I asked which no one answered was “does anyone think Glen Kamara was lying ?…I dont and as I stated earlier he deserves our support just like our captain backed him.”

I don`t know if anyone has answered now but, regardless, I will.

It matters very little what anyone `thinks` on this matter. No one knows whether or not Kamara was lying?

Judging by Slavia`s response to the ten game ban ,I would guess he was not lying but what I think is neither here nor there. What people `think` is not evidence.

  11. Should the game on Sunday go to penalties, will Sevco players know what to do when Celtic players take one?

  12. Good Morning all

A fine, sunny but crisp day in Dundee on the silvery Tay. In the current spirit of things, perhaps Celtic should be upfront about the reception at Ibrokes on Sunday and state that they will refuse to get off the (no doubt Parks) bus should there be any repeat of the last occasion with racist abuse directed towards the visitors. Put the onus firmly where it belongs: the home team, Polis and Scot Govt.

  13. Re what happened in tunnel etc……

We’re going to have to wait for UEFA report to be published as not one journalist to date has had the balls to ask Sevco or any of its employees that question. They’ve probably been told they will be banned or its off limits at press conferences – something our media team never seem to do.

  14. I will reiterate any form of racism is intolerable in a modern society.

IF anyone suffers then the perpetrators deserve all they get.

Friesdorfer – Great post. Front foot and all that…

I would have someone from our club filming our arrival and departure, just incase Strathclyde’s finest decide its not in the best interest of anyone to say anything or as I call it hush things up.

Sorry – I got in first time but am now denied access without a payment. Briefly, it covers how he fell in love with Celtic when he played against us as a young player at Stuttgart and this influenced his decision to join us when he had other options.

Injury cut his career but he has built up a coaching career and is now assistant manager at Spartak Moscow. He expresses a wish to come back to Celtic at some time.

  18. A couple of weeks back Aamar Anwar called in to TalkSport, during the Jim White-Simon Jordan programme. I’m sure this happened twice but there only appears to be a tape of one of the discussions. During one, Anwar stated that he fully expected Ondrej Kudela to be prosecuted under Scots Law for his abuse of Glen Kamera during the match. He stated, under severe questioning from Simon Jordan, that there was, and this is the phrase he used, ‘sufficiency of evidence’ to prosecute Kudela under Section 50A. Kudela has since been banned by UEFA. But so has Kamara, for assault. Now presumably there is also ‘sufficiency of evidence’ to charge Kamera under Scots Law for an offence which took place after the match in front of quite a number of witnesses. It was reported that PoliceScotland were investigating possible offences against Kudela, are they now also investigating accusations of assault against Kamera? and possibly others.

  19. FOR GLASGOWBHOY – don’t drill your roof!!!! If he is not on this morning, someone please remind him if he posts later.

A number of years ago (10 or more) a guy invented the Seasucker rack, a bike roof rack that works with suction cups. It is absolutely safe (obviously had to be tested at ridiculous speeds to get a licence to sell) and there are probably others like it now on market. The Aston Martin and Porsche crew love them. Pricey but really practical and eye catching.

I think you’ll find that the prosecution of Kudela, will ahem disappear. If they tried it then I’m sure Slavia Prague wold expect the same of Kamara, that is not going to happen……..
