Oops, we forgot about Sevco 5088

930

We are all familiar with brinksmanship; adopting what seems like an uncompromising position despite acute potential consequences.  Correspondence recently released around the goings-on at Rangers International and associated companies suggests at least two combative parties have been edging towards the brink since last year.  Now it is clear they are both well over the brink, it’s too late for either to back down.

The conclusion of Pinsent Masons’ report was released to the stock market this morning and found “no evidence that Craig Whyte had any involvement with Sevco Scotland Limited (now called The Rangers Football Club Limited), the company which ultimately acquired the business and assets of The Rangers Football Club P.L.C. from its administrators; nor which would suggest that Craig Whyte invested in The Rangers Football Club Limited or Rangers International Football Club plc”.

All of which, sharp-eyed observers will note, is exactly what Mr Whyte is so animated about.

Let me run through that list of companies which Mr Whyte was not involved with again:

Sevco Scotland Ltd: check
AKA The Rangers Football Club Ltd: check
Rangers International Football Club PLC: check
Sevco 5088 Ltd: wait a minute, they missed out Sevco 5088 Ltd!!

This is where the project resembles trying to push water uphill:

Rangers International plc claim Sevco 5088 Ltd is a subsidiary of theirs.

Mr Whyte claims to be a director and beneficiary of Sevco 5088 Ltd.

Pinsent Masons’ report’s published conclusion fails to comment on Mr Whyte’s status in connection with Rangers International’s claimed subsidiary company, Sevco 5088 Ltd.

The SFA prohibited the new associate member club from having any connection with Mr Whyte.  Last week the SFA chief executive acknowledged the seriousness of the club potentially breaking the conditions of membership, but said the Association would await the outcome of the Pinsent Masons’ report.  The published conclusions of which does not address the question.

Rangers International have just dared the SFA to act.  They are familiar with the tactics of brinksmanship, however….

Just in case you are new to this subject…..

Hell will freeze over before any football association with Campbell Ogilvie as president will act on this matter.  “Heavily conflicted” Campbell will ensure his board take no action.

I was delighted to read one man who knew exactly what he was dealing with when he took on the SFA.  Echoing the comments made here yesterday, Fergus McCann said:

“Filling Celtic Park against Barcelona or Spartak or Rangers is the easy part.

“The part that really counts is consistent support at every game at Celtic Park and that will deliver the top-level matches.

“My time at the Croy CSC reminds me of the importance of dedicated support.

“The members knew that their role was vital, especially in the hard times.”

The future of our club is very much in our own hands and these are important times to fill out Celtic Park.

Waterstones, Stirling, 5-7pm TODAY!

I’ll be at Waterstones, Stirling, with Willie Wallace from 5pm until 7pm this evening.  Willie will be available for photographs and signing copies of his autobiography, Heart of a Lion.  If you’re from the area, call in, I’ll see you there.

Many thanks to all who bought tickets for the Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, we sold out last night.  Thanks also to those who are bidding on the fabulous signed Messi top, you still have a few days left to get involved.  The spirit of Walfrid is alive and well 125 years on.

Great posts bringing much perspective from Italiabhoy and derbyshirebhoy this evening. A welcome relief from the attention seeking nonsense posted earlier on the blog.

DB – you’re humour is sorely missed on here. You might have to take more train journeys!

Sanna – nice to hear your news about yer bhoy and the great work of TKF. How did you find a caravan big enough BTW?! Still haven’t managed to organise a beer with Sheepie!

I had been toast for ten minutes. No clean sheet for me tonight, but then you were on my team, so no easy saves;-)

DerbyshireBhoy, interesting post, no sorry cracking post. I agree with the overall premise, I hope Celtic are doing all they can to leave the SFA, the SPL and SFL behind.

I don’t totally agree football here is moribund, but it is for Celtic, no challenge.

Without Celtic life may spark into the game, but even without Celtic the structure and institutions need to be revamped. Well said mate.

    Good post,

We are dying before our eyes, nothing will be for changing any time soon in sectarian land.

The club should call their bluff and hand in it’s resignation, and I honestly care not if we have nowhere to go, we are already on the road to nowhere.

It can’t be any worse than what is happening presently.

Aye, Exiled Tim. You are correct. Don’t ever say what Lennybhoy said to anyone: it’s quite a serious insult. It’s an insult to their dead relatives and is unlikely to go down well anywhere.

  8. To follow on from a few posts last night about Willie Wallace in the Celtic supporters association club in Greenock. If anyone woudl like tickets either get my email from Paul or most of the long timers on here. I will post on CQN facebook as well.

To confirm we will have Celtic legend lisbon lion Willie Wallace in the club on Thursday 13th June. Willie will be doing a book signing and will be doing a Q&A on the night as well. Tickets will go on sale from the club on Friday 31st priced £2. All proceeds will be donated to charity. Doors open at 7.

Great post, I totally agree, one of the best post In some time. The board of directors need to get us out of here asap

  10. TET/CRC

It’s madness to suggest that Celtic simply resign. This has been mooted previously when ludicrous decisions have become public but a knee jerk reaction that could ultimately put the future of our club in doubt.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that either EUFA or FIFA would feel obliged or compelled to ‘find’ a place for us.

  11. That is CRC was on my team, jeez_i_thought_blinker_was_pants has previously scored against me. After four games, CRC hasn’t yet;-) will he run around with his short over his head when he does? Hope not!

    No boastin’ just sayin’.

  12. TET, CRC, HT is right, we have to have somewhere to go, killing our own club, and it probably would, is not the answer, DerbyshireBhoy was right, ask the F.A., appeal to UEFA.

Wonder if this is already happening?

As others have said, you hit a few nails on the head. We have have also had great posts tonight from TBB, Auldheid and ItaliaBhoy. Good stuff.

I would add two short sentiments.

First, Scotland is not the only country in which this is happening (although I accept that Celtic are more of an anomaly in Scotland than other anomalies are in their countries, such as the big two in Spain, the big three in Portugal, the big three in the Netherlands, Anderlecht et cetera).

Second, none of this is Celtic’s fault.

  14. Btw,

Did I mention that I got the podium the day?

    Not that i was bothered…

Walty found himself painted into a very tight corner when faced with the idea of ‘walk or talk’.

CW is doing the right thing for CW.

Chuckles is praying that nobody looks too closely at the alleged sale of shares to Butler & Blakey.

The various button sewers, camp followers, snake-oil salesmen and carpetbaggers are praying that the crimplene-clad brain donors renew their season books, then it’s payday, so long suckers!

Walty will wail about being duped, Ally will announce his reluctant retiral and some trialists will find out that their side-letters- reassuring them that they will receive a contract irrespective of performance, injury or insolvency event- aren’t worth the paper their written on.

Jabba’s new catchphrase will be ‘….do you want fries with that?…’

I am not suggesting we resign at all if you check back on my post. I just keep hearing that plans are afoot and we move closer to a move. I am very sceptical in all of this myself, and think that words are put out there as a crowd pleaser.

I just hope we are not being complicit/complacent in all of this. That would disappoint me.

  21. Celtic_First on

Some people have considered this question and reached the same conclusion as a few excellent posts have tonight, that the status quo in Scottish football is not sustainable. And their suggested solution is that we return to the status quo of pre-2012.

    As though that were sustainable.

  22. fourgreenfields

I’ll carry on supporting Celtic mate. You know me it’s not intended to be facetious or sanctimonious and I’m simplifying things greatly.

I certainly don’t have the answers but I definitely won’t be calling for an action that would ultimately jeopardise the future of our club.

  23. The Boy Jinky on

How many of us would settle for leaving scottish football and entering the 4th tier of the English league

At least 3 years of lower league matches… at least 4 without europe.

Disagree with your last line it was all our fault…

We should never have won 9 in a row or the European Cup.

That’s the reason thems died :-)

  25. CRC, I don’t think we are complicit, I hope and believe Celtic will be making efforts to look after the long term future of the club.

I keep reading that Celtic are complicit, then see no evidence of this.

If we went public with the opinion of the club it would be portrayed as Celtic doing down Scottish football, not Sevco, Scottish football, I think we are playing a long game.

  27. On a plane from Edinburgh this morning and a guy was sitting there reading Heart of a Lion. Asked him if he was enjoying the book – absolutely brilliant he said. I told him I’d have to read it.

  28. Doc is neil lennon,

Swansea and Cardiff are at the big table. No reason why a Scottish club can be excluded.

We could and should be there. Are we brave enough to make the commitment?

I believe that our future would be more secure and much better playing in the FA leagues.
