Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

Well, the original point is, why do supposedly reasonable people wany to invade and corrupt a superstition ffs, its pagan, union of marriage is an agreement to share dna, create life.

No doubt we’ll be hearing about pagan marriages, but the ones that create life is the only one that lasted

Your spirit mercilessly crushed by seemingly never ending complaints about the temperature of the pasties. You drift back to the day you made the fateful decision to embark on a social sciences degree and curse the naivety of said choice…can this day get any worse? Another customer approaches, “veg pasty me ol china” ….”1.12 please”, a 20 pound note handed over, transaction entered into till,a weary glance at my screen and there by the change section the magnificent, reinvigorating, spirit renewing magic numbers..1888!!! With a magnificent pride I say loud and proud and with a huge grin “1888”, as i hand back his change, customer no doubt wondering how such an ordinary occurrence could cause such joy, good God is it possible to love Glasgow Celtic too much??

Agree totally. I am long since lapsed – although I don’t like the word’s negativity and implication that the condition is temporary – and I too envy the faith that my family and friends have.

I found the Church’s teachings on several things to be impossible to square with my own personal convictions, so I no longer called myself a Catholic.

I have two daughters, neither of whom are being brought up in the faith, which is something that still causes me sleepless nights. Obviously I think I am doing the right thing for them or I wouldn’t be doing it.

If it came to pass that my daughter found a loving fulfilment with someone of the same sex, I wouldn’t love her one iota less, but she would be persona non grata with the Church.

If she found she had a calling or a vocation for the Church – tough. On grounds of gender. Meanwhile, fewer and fewer are joining the priesthood, fewer and fewer are attending Mass.

For me, the Church is becoming dangerously disconnected with the wider world and the people in it.

I share your views entirely – I’m long past worrying about it though.

On the specific issue of homosexuality it strikes me as being particularly duplicitous as many gay men have sought refuge in the priesthood and been accepted. This is undeniable.

the church were allowed to respond on an earlier report, they said the comment was taken out of context, now are you struggling to find another context were the same comment might be less controversial, or will we just go with what the msm are saying

  25. As a practising Catholic I do not believe that our Church discriminates against homosexuals or any other individual. It believes that the sexual act is meant for procreation, I’m sorry if you disagree with that but most animals have sex to procreate not for pleasure. I certainly do not wish to be a member of a Church that changes it’s rules to court popularity. I do not/will not discriminate against anyone who has different sexual practices from what I consider the norm but neither will I accept that the Carholic Church should kowtow to what is perceived to be popular belief that Catholicism is outdated and we should accept that all behaviour is normal. I’m prepared to be shot down for this but it seems to me that these so-called persecuted minorities have now got themselves into a position of power through politics and that anybody who does not agree with them is labelled as being intolerant or discrimatory. Remember politicians will court anybody for a vote. Church bashing is very popular these days, and while I do not consider myself to be a holy Joe I do take umbrage to those who think that organised religion is wrong. Religion does not cause division, tribalism does. If religion did not exist those who manipulate the differences between human races, culture, skin colour, hair colour, etc would find a reason for discrimination. By the time this rant is over no doubt the thread of debate will have changed. Remember membership of the Catholic Church or any other organisation should be about personal belief and not about popularity, fear or the hate of another belief.

Jesus’s name being Joshua is not a revelation, or it certainly shouldn’t be to anyone with the most rudimentary knowledge of the life of Jesus. It isn’t some secret known only to 33 degree Rosicrucians or so.

It’s actually fairly commonly accepted, see any number of textbooks on the history of the life of Jesus.

  30. Isn’t the Scottish government’s proposal only in relation to civil marriage?

I fear I’m about to expose my ignorance as I am not close to it anymore but doesn’t the Catholic Church regard “non religious” marriage as unrecognised?

If so, what does it matter to Catholics or the Catholic Church if the government legalises and recognises same sex marriage? In the eyes of the church the couple would be no more married than a male and female civil marriage?

    Have I got that wrong?

I’m very much in the live and let live camp and can’t fathom what business it is of mine or anyone else what consenting adults choose to do?
