I remember an old debate about what was more important: players or tactics? Current consensus is that tactics rule, but that’s because we live in an era of tactical innovation. In the decades when tactics never deviated from 4-4-2, success in the game was about players.
There’s another element: partnerships. Good players can be tactically right for a side, but still underachieve because their team-mates don’t move that fraction of a second before a defender reacts to the danger (or an opposing striker steals a yard).
You may be able to identify our strongest starting 11, but with so many changes to the line-up this season, you will struggle to name partnerships that have impressed you. Until Saturday. As Nicolas Kuhn cut inside and looked into the St Johnstone box, Kyogo did a 360° spin, creating space at the moment required to meet the subsequent cross, which our Japanese hero converted.
The opening moments of the second half saw a mirror image of this, resulting in the second goal. Kyogo’s first touch took him wider, but Kuhn understood what would happen next, and made a run into the box. The goal, against a packed defence, looked easy.
Over the years, you and I have seen what happens when players successfully feed off each other. In possession, they look out for the other, the target player takes a cue to move when his partner is on the ball. Confidence builds and soon everything works better. With so many injuries and new faces to integrate, a lack of effective partnerships has been one of our major drags this season.
We learned on Saturday that Nicolas arrived at Celtic in January around 7kg (over a stone in old money) underweight; around 10% of his bodyweight. He would have been weak, but there was no hiding. Now fully fit, his trajectory is impressive. Add him to the lengthy list of ‘written off too soon’ targets, season 2023-24.

Jock Stein, tactician.
“it seems strage to now consider, that prior to his arrival, the concept of working on tactics, have never crossed anyones mind”
and remember Jim Craig saying, it was fortunate we scored, because me and tam should not have been up the park at the same time”

Surely the SFA must keep all the VAR tapes from all games for ongoing training purposes, you would think. After each game , the ‘tapes’ / ‘files’ will be backed up , to the cloud or elsewhere.
If the files / tapes are subsequently required for a disciplinary review then other than the traditional IT problem of a failed backup then just restore the file.
If the files / tapes are ‘gone’ then a record of who deleted the file / tape will be available.
Great fun this , seems to me it’s either a great rumour or there is a non recurring error with the backup / restore system , which if true is pretty shoddy.
Begs the question of which other tapes / files have also gone missing. Wouldn’t surprise me if they have upgraded their systems and somehow can’t read previous back up tapes / files ….

vg technical IT summary of how backing up digital files should work.
however, the SFA are now saying they bought the system 2nd hand as a job lot from Fujitsu Horizon reseller.
This VAR / lost tapes rumour is growing legs.
No doubt it will have derived from the Clubs legal team – hopefully as senior as a KC – calling for them.
If it’s true they have gone missing, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the call for them came in and it was discovered they were either “lost” or worse.

“If the files / tapes are ‘gone’ then a record of who deleted the file / tape will be available.”
Correct – if they are stored digitally then they systems records will disclose that. If it takes Forensic IT guys to go through it then so be it. Having some experience of it myself recently those guys can drill down to an incredible depth to fine what they need to find. It would be virtually impossible to hide your tracks.
Plot thickens.
Am now hearing that Allen Crawford was so terrified about the content of the tapes that he felt compelled to hide them.
By sheer luck (for him) he was watching Pulp Fiction the previous night … and drew inspiration from Bruce Willis’ character’s recollection of the story about his father hiding the family heirloom watch while a POW.
Crawford Allhun resigns. Ffs Attila would have taken Rome with a regiment of SFA huns.
Personally speaking about V AR I’m fine with referee’s on the pitch,as for referee’s in a room viewing the game ,it should be a independent panel of men and women, and Celtic should have there own VAR in place inside Celtic Park
I have a bridge to sell anyone who thinks that if the sfa have lost the tapes it’s down to incompetence.
Head out the sand.csc
Wee James F lifted the while stadium on Saturday, direct and confident.

ALL tapes are saved to a server, its impossible to accidentally delete them, the system works with an automatic back up incase a server falls over. I doubt all the copies are gone but its a weird coincidence and a good story to distract from the huns rioting in Dundee and their bright new boy being outted on social media as an ML6 hun.

When I saw Niscolas Kuhn for the first time I thought frail and too lightweight for the rigours of the SPFL and badly needed a few feeds of bacon and cabbage and maybe a daily pint of stout to give him a bit of heft. But glad to hear he looked good against Saints on La Le Padraig.
With the departure of Liel , the dismantling of Ange’s swashbucklers is almost complete but a good performance yesterday judging by the highlights creating loads of chances and should have rattled the net on more than three occasions.
International break is on us once more and a time to regroup and sort out various injury problems for the crucial games ahead. The Hoops are off to the USA and a trip to the green and misty Isle for their Irish fans. The Celtic / Wolves game drew a healthy 30,000 crowd to the Aviva last term despite Liverpool having big support here many of them also follow Celtic.

Cheers PB.
I’m with Saint Stivs.
Vacuous stuff.
Foments unrest … just when the fans and players are feeling more connected.
All for clicks and cash.
If the author of the piece is seriously asking the “how come” question?
If you say to a TRAVEL agent “How much do you want to provide your services”
… And they quote you a price?
… And you say “Fine”
99% of the time the deal is done.
Have the same conversation with a FOOTBALL agent?
You’ll get a lower percentage. Much lower.
Good news on the US Tour bhoys.
I’m thinking of Europe during the Euros and would be good to get some Celtic on our return (and an excuse to escape the Houston heat)!
Was wearing my Philly 2012 shirt yesterday for Paddy’s from the last time we played Real Madrid in Pennsylvania.

BigWavy, Neustadtbraw (I think), Deniabhoy, and more occasional poster Truth, hope, and freedom (or similar)
Hope they’re all well 👍
Re VAR video/file going missing – it can’t be true surely.
Was there not a mad online rumour about the club having a folder or something that has shocking/explosive info on referees a few years back?
I seem to have a recollection it was even mentioned in one of the leaders.
Next you’ll be telling me they lost the tapes of the 7-1 game…
