Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

866

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

  1. Drop Brown tomoorow and Lustig both need a rest.. Rogic needs a game. Play Hayes instead of Sinclair and get ball in box. Just to shake up style of play. They were hopeless against huns in the air.

  2. Tallybhoy,

Mr Young came very late to me, although i do still have a copy of ‘Harvest’ on original vinyl. I was recommended ‘Americana’ by a friend though, and just loved the grittiness of it. now a big fan – especially the Crazy Horse stuff.

VFR .. one of the things I noticed about the PSG team was just how athletic they all were … based on your description of the pitch invaders antics, I say forget banning him … sign him up as our fitness coach! :)

    —————————————–

British judge picked up on that and gave him a banning order. Best wee bigoted country in the world.

Is Doncaster agreeing with Celtic that their should be a Review and then openly defies his own SPFL Board by writing to Regan ?

    ====================

Perhaps it was an attempt by Celtic to flush out the other clubs?

If they do not agree then they are exposed to their own fan base but in isolating Celtic it gives rise to two possibilities.

    1. Celtic said we tried but cannot pursue without support of other clubs.

    2. It is clear other clubs do not value integrity as much as we at Celtic do. We think this is a long term error and we will continue to pursue independently for the long term good of Scottish football.

It also means a Judicial Review if it is possible is the only way left to supporters.

The UEFA Licence has still to be investigated and watch them try and limit that to what Rangers did in 2011 and not at how SFA handles responses for clarity based on evidence provided from 2014.

  10. When the interloper was on the park, BT showed a conversation between Cavani and the ref, where Cavani was clearly seen asking the ref where CQN corner was – he’d tried to find it before the game but to no avail.

    :-)

  11. Did someone run on the park the other night? First I’ve heard of it. Probably from Australia… :-)

  12. JABBA TRAYNOR, STEWARDS & WAGES ?

The following post is NOT designed to cause argument, and for this CQNR who has great experience of many aspects of life, there is NO debate about what I write…..it is merely FACT !

In 1990 I was a steward at concerts and football.

If a football match kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday ( as most did back then ), any steward was NOT employed and deployed for 90 minutes…it was for much longer, rest assured.

Following Celtic’s game v AC MIlan at Celtic Park and the concerns expressed thereafter after an intruder ran on and tapped Dida on the shoulder there was much debate in the papers and radio etc.

I read and heard a whole lot of Crap about the “incident” and about stewarding in general, and so much so I telephoned JABBA Traynor on his Live Radio Scotland show the following Saturday evening ( against my better judgement), just to attempt to set the record straight.

Many of the callers spoke mainly Crap about the stewards at Celtic Park that night, as did one Mr JABBA ! Now this post is NOT in defence of stewards etc, just mere facts, and Traynor who had a hell of a lot to say on the subject, only served to show his complete ignorance of ANY issues in relation to stewarding a football match.

JABBA was completely blaming the Celtic Park stewards for allowing the “invader” onto the pitch, and given my VAST EXPERIENCE of security and stewarding, I decided to make JABBA and most of his listeners aware of a few FACTs, and also to ask them relevant questions about what they would do, or what they would have their sons and daughters do IF they were a steward that night ?

I believe ( in fact I know) that my mere mention of FACTs,…and possible scenarios had JABBA almost lost for words live on air.

Now when I was a steward it was some years before that Celtic v Milan game so I would expect that the wages for stewards were slightly different to when I was engaged in that capacity in 1990/91.

To be fair that night, JABBA gave me good air time without being interrupted, which perhaps in itself tells how my comments got across to him and his audience ?

I advised JABBA that when I worked as a steward albeit some years earlier, AFTER TAX and NAT INS….an ordinary steward like myself take home wage was £11.00.

JABBA…” Thats sounds like a pretty good wage to me Jimmy….£11 an Hour” ?

Me ” No Mr Traynor…£11 for a FIVE HOUR SHIFT” !

    JABBA..” What…£11 for a whole shift…your kidding me on etc ” ?

ME…” No I am not kidding Mr Traynor”.

I explained to JABBA the start times on match days, and when you actually finished your approx 5 hour shift, and to be fair he listened intensely .

Before I called,… JABBA had being going on about how stewards are paid to STOP pitch invaders etc, and why didn’t any stewards tackle the invader v Milan etc etc.

So when I advised of how little ordinary stewards were being paid, I put it to him…

ME ” Mr Traynor…how would you feel about your son or daughter working for beer money as a steward, being told be others that they MUST prevent any invaders even if it means rugby tackling the intruder….who may not only drunk/drugged up to his napper…but may also be carrying a feckin weapon. Would you be okay with your son or daughter tackling an intruder for maybe £3 an hour after tax and Nat. Ins” ?

JABBA ” No Jimmy..since you put it like that..I wouldn’t expect my son or daughter to intervene for that kind of money”.

ME ” There is another aspect of untrained and unlicensed stewards ” rugby tackling” or even confronting an intruder before or when they are on the field of play, and that is….what if your son Mr Traynor rugby tackled an invader, and in bringing him down onto the track or pitch cause the invader a serious back injury for example, and thereafter the invader sought damages in Court against your son or daughter….are you STILL happy to seriously slag off ALL stewards” ?

JABBA..” No I am not Jimmy…your call has made me think more about the situation…..I can’t believe the low wages that stewards get…thanks for your call”>

ME..” Nae bother Mr Traynor.. I just feel that folk including yourself should NOT be spouting absolute Crap about things they obviously know nothing about…Cheers”

    At that I hung up.

As I said earlier in this post, this is NOT to defend ALL Stewards, because I have argued with more than my fair share over the years at Celtic Park and away games, but I do think a wee bit of balance is required here.

What happened on Tuesday was regretful, as some stewards and Police let Celtic and the PSG player down…as it appears that this Chump Invader has ran a very long way before being caught…that should NOT be happening..he should have been taken down the moment he was over the ad boards imo.

just a wee bit of balance Bhoys and Ghirls …hopefully ?

The first press LP(1970 ? ) credits Keith Tippett / Alan Branscome on piano . It also credits -S -on keyboards . That grew legs and S was assumed to be Steve Winwood .-possible urban myth ?

I remember an interview with Steve Winwood who said – maybe , maybe not / don’t remember .

I remember an article in a jazz mag which claimed that Steve Winwood had told them he had played on that choon .

  16. APOLOGISES,

In my post about Stewards etc…I wrongly said that the intruder on Tuesday should have been “Taken Down” as soon as he was on the track ?

That is NOT what I meant…he SHOULD have been STOPPED as soon as he looked like vaulting over the ad boards, by way of gentle persuasion perhaps ?

  17. I should have written Kylian Mbappe as PSG´s young striker in a post yesrerday. Agree with Paul that we must rest the likes of Brown from domestic games, we need to regroup and learn that it is good to keep your counsel before big matches and to do your talking on the pitch while the Celtic fans do the shouting for you

” The Ibrox men, who are three points behind leaders Celtic in the Premiership, could go top for a few hours at least if they can overcome Alan Archibald’s team.”

Obviously, the author of the piece forgot to add ` by five goals` after ` overcome`. Perhaps he was overcome with emotion about the prospect of his team reaching such heady heights.

One point , though. It is wrong to keep saying Sevco are rubbish. They play in Scotland and should be compared with other Scottish teams. Their League positions says, in Scotland, they ARE a decent side. No point pretending otherwise. Hints of unnecessary fear.
