Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

Not much point in employing stewards if they do eff all because they’re paid eff all.

Btw,stewards in pubs and clubs are paid much more, commensurate with their willingness to defend the premises and patrons.

I wouldn’t do it for minimum wage, for sure.

Or-more importantly-at all. Not worth it.

One point , though. It is wrong to keep saying Sevco are rubbish. They play in Scotland and should be compared with other Scottish teams. Their League positions says, in Scotland, they ARE a decent side. No point pretending otherwise. Hints of unnecessary fear.

    Naaaa they’r rubbish :))

  6. SOT…great stuff! 50s and 60s was a great time for uk jazz. The Mingus style bass on the intro made me check up, turns out it is Dave Green who played with loads of jazz greats and even with Charlie Watts. The female vocal style reminded me of Flora Purim…They just don’t make ‘dirty’ music like that nowadays, everything now is so clean and sharp…thanks for posting…and I suppose we’ll maybe never now if Steve Winwood played on Frame…Cheers for now…

I’m delighted that Res12 has finally after 4 years campaigning got the SFA’s attention, but hope any investigation is not allowed to become a lost opportunity to rout the torags at the SFA.

You have probably seen JJ’s apology to PL https://johnjamessite.com/2017/09/15/peter-lawwell-the-man-with-the-golden-gun/comment-page-1/#comment-47075

but there is a danger that this Compliance Officer investigation will become another attempt at a SFA whitewash

My response to JJ that follows is an attempt to stop that happening and I’m sure PL is well aware of what took place between SFA and Celtic and can have all the Res12 lawyer correspondence needed to make sure SFA do not attempt to limit the scope of that investigation or get compromised by it.

” I would argue from knowledge that the silver bullet was not forged at the CW trial. It merely entered the public arena barrel chamber.

The SFA were provided with more than enough evidence in 2014 by Celtic to start an investigation and if they can be excused from acting then, how they failed to deal with the questions raised by Res12 lawyers from 2015 and why they did not act on information provided has to be part of the investigation in order to make the SFA accountable for their part in the whole affair from 2011 to date not just the licensing process in 2011.

In defining that scope it will give Mr Regan an opportunity to explain his beliefs about the licensing process, the rules that do not appear to have been applied as intended, his dependence on the licencee when SFA are the licensing AUTHORITY and why the SFA never once checked the position re the liability of March 2011 with HMRC although empowered to do so.

Lets make it a Golden Bullet.

    ” We’ll maybe never know ” .

    Indeed !

To finish it off — 60s / 70s jazz wasn’t” cool” – it wasn’t hip / it wasn’t American It wasn’t on Blue Note / Riverside / Impulse / Prestige etc . It sold in small quantities / it ended up in Bargain bins for 99p. . Along came “Rare Groove ” and the jazz dance stuff at places like Dingwall’s and Hey Presto lots of long forgotten / ignored choons became must haves . . — second LPS by people like Harold McNair went from £0.49 to £ 50 plus .—- I remember an article in a glossy style mag which argued that those with a vested interest in flogging ” Rare UK Jazz ” enhanced the value of the product by inventing cool back stories for the product — – ” That’s Jimmy Page on Guitar / Steve Winwood on organ ” etc etc . Rare as Hen’s teeth -A snip at £ 75 “-

A great Jazz 45 -not from the UK-

And so am I , it did take a while,

I’m reading players playing for other SPFL teams and journalists ( I use that word sparingly) in the Scottish MSM seem to all be agreeing that Celtic got a taste of they’r own medicine on Tuesday night, all more or less agreeing that we have some sort of sporting advantage here in Scotland as we have more money? Now where have I heard that before?

After the game on Tuesday, I posted on having also watched the youth game earlier.

I mentioned that the defending deficiencies of the first team were mirrored in the youngsters.

I texted similar to my son, only to add, “Bring back Kolo”.

I wish I had added that to my CQN post, then you would all be telling me how smart I was!

  14. SOT…I was first and foremost a ‘soulman’…Herbie Goins and the Nightimers–Jimmy James and the Vagabonds at the Maryland in Glasgow, late 60s. Then in 1970 I went to see Tony William’s Lifetime–TW-John McLaughlin-Larry Young and Jack Bruce. Funny thing was, I had heard so much about Tony Williams from my drummer friend. When we entered the Upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre, I was amazed at the size of the drum-kit on stage–two bass drums-cymbals galore etc…Then the roadies came on stage and started carting it off, to be replaced by a small, bog-standard kit. Turns out the support band was Atomic Rooster, so it was Carl Palmer’s kit that was removed from the stage. We had obviously missed them…not terribly disappointed to tell you the truth…Anyway, after seeing Lifetime, I wasn’t so much hooked on jazz, however, it was the beginning of a growing appreciation which continues to this day…Cheers for now…and keep posting your choons–love ’em…

    Well worth a read

    http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/competitions/premiership/opinion-stephen-mcilkenny-on-why-sfa-review-is-necessary-for-real-change-1-4561256

    ==================

At last someone on msm realising the real issues at play. This bit made me smile:

“In their statement, the SFA said that one of the “key learnings” that has been addressed in the last six years has been the “bolstering the duty of good faith”. The reaction of many fans suggests that faith in the integrity of the SFA may be in short supply. ”

What that means is we have realised that our process are as useless as a chocolate teapot if a club lies .

Does it also mean the punishment for being caught out will be significant deterrent or that we will either use or strengthen existing power to stop the cheating bassas lying in the first place?

For the record RFC have never been charged with failing to act with the utmost good faith to other clubs. If such an investigation had taken place it would have concluded as above.

  16. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

After the SPL clubs voted not to admit Sevco to the SPL, the SPL changed their rules.

Where all the club chairmen/women had a vote, they restricted voting to an elected SPFL Board, which, I understand, is about six members.

They alone can vote on SPL matters, which silences the rest of the chairmen.

This limits the opportunity of clubs hiding behind fan pressure, in the eyes of the SPFL.

This is also why Doncaster saying that he is speaking on behalf of the 42 clubs; but individual chairmen can say, “Naw yer no'”.

In this situation, I would suggest that it is the NOs who are acting against the SPFL rules.
