Periods of poor passing

154

It is a classic fallacy of Scottish football.  No sooner does someone utter that a team’s second 11 could win the league, they are brought down to earth.  Ninth placed Motherwell failed to take anything from Celtic Park on Saturday, but the champions were well below par for the second successive game.

If we were at the Plastic Pasta Stadium in Livingston, or bumpy Tannadice, the blame would immediately go to the surface, but even though Celtic Park looked immaculate, our passing was poorly executed.

Ange Postecoglou has already pondered this problem this season.  Three of our four opening league fixtures were punctuated by periods of poor passing: Aberdeen, Ross County and Hearts.  The system then caught fire against Dundee United, Ross County in the League Cup, Newco and for 50 minutes against Real Madrid.

There were periods of worry in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk that, remarkably, St Mirren were able to make more of.  Motherwell may well have watched and learned.  Wednesday will inevitably inject change into Celtic veins.  There will be more space in advanced position and let’s hope any sense of casualness will evaporate.

  1. The one’ster is back.

Ladbrokes are running a book on who the jolly japester could be?

I think that it is the leading light of the CQN property / civil engineering posse.

Civils really are as thick as shi*e at the neck of a bottle.

Sky Sports say Chelsea close to buying Leipzig striker Knunku? Thought Window was closed, maybe for January?

    —-

Would be a winter signing. Has a €60M clause. Sounds like Chelsea are going in higher to secure his signing. One to watch, in the next two games. A point on Wednesday, would be excellent. I suspect it will be very difficult.

  3. I rarely watch the EPL but saw most of the Manchester Derby. Could not believe how poor united were, even allowing for some excellent play from city and their viking superstar. If only we could develop someone like him.

Very sad news about the loss of a braw Celtic man and cqn contributor.

    RIP Andrew .

  5. MU performance — I would be talking to the bookies.

For many — not trying a leg would have been too good regarding their performance.

  6. RIP Neustadt Braw

Who would win between a CQN night out for An Tearman vs. night out MM EL

  7. Sad news on the passing of Neustadt Braw. He always demonstrated his love od his homeland whilst living in Germany. We shared a few reminisces of Forfar and Monifieth, especially the Seaway Chippy, regrettably taken over by new owners now. I know he had health problems in recent times, and hoped he was over that. Sincere condolences to his family, Rest in Peace Andrew Griffin.

    Sad news on Neustadl Braw.

    Rest in peace Andrew.

As a matter of interest anyone know what age he was ?

For me the 6th goal summed them up, it took Haaland about 6 touches to turn and went unchallenged.

Very sad news about Neustadt Braw. I always enjoyed his comments and his cheery posting style.

I always thought Lewandowski was the king of strikers, but Haaland is a step up in class, even from the Pole machine.

Scottish Referee Podcast ‘Get Involved Referee’ has dropped a massive exclusive claiming VAR in Scottish football is about to be introduced ahead of schedule.

  14. So sorry to hear the news about Andrew – so many great posts over many years, RIP Braw lad

They’re not happy with how var is operating in the EPL. A few strange decisions at the weekend.

It’s not a silver bullet to take the MiB out of the equation.

    Terrible news!

A fine poster who will be missed by many.

    Rest in peace Andrew Griffin.

  17. I know Tony Ralston plays right back ,could Ange replace Welsh with Tony occupying that position, also Juranvic at right back he I think is more suited going forward on the right ,what do you think.

  18. Very sad to hear the news re Neustadt Braw.Never met him but his posts suggested a truly lovely man.

Thanks for the video of James O’Brien ripping the piss out of the government in your previous post that was deleted.

To me Calmac is easily our best player, even when he has a bad game.”

I agree. In the first half against real Madrid, he wasn`t outclassed by the the remarkable Modric.

  21. Interesting comment from Christopher Jullien:

” He is a coach who relies a lot on video and who tries to get into the opponent’s head.

“Thanks to this, I realised that when you push the opposing team to do exactly what they don’t want, you can outwit them to an unimaginable extent.

“It’s like playing chess. If the opposing team can’t find a parry, you’re in for a treat.”

  22. RIP Neustadl Braw

I agree with BOURNESOUPRECIPE regarding Beaton performance on Saturday. We were very near to dropping points with only a 2-1win. I feel that every game he referees we are struggling to earn full points.

Amongst the many decisions he made were, denying blatant hand ball penalty, no card for bad foul on Hatate, no card for assault on kyogo on touchline, He really is a danger to our campaign. The bias shown is shameful.

The Fouls not given for us and the dodgy ones against us, together with the stopping quick free kicks and throw-ins breaks up our flow.

A red card for Mcgregor 40 yards from goal was as dodgy as could be. Welsh was 5 yards further back and ended with the ball at his feet.

Colum is poor ad unpredictable, but for sheer bias there is on worse than Beaton

  23. The Club ( and The Manager) may have good reasons not to be critical of Match Officials so I would like to see the Green Brigade ( and others) displaying banners reflecting the bias of referees in Scotland.

  24. BTW

Does anyone know why Dundee Utd V Aberdeen this Saturday is a six pm KO? I don`t think it is on TV anywhere.
