Petrie survival and Gary Hughes

252

Let’s be clear, the role of president of the SFA is one of the most sought-after in football.  Alongside the FA, FA of Wales and Irish FA, the Scottish FA hold one of the four permanent members of the International Football Association Board – the body which controls the rules of the game and exerts soft influence on all structures below it, including Fifa.

Current SFA vice president, Rod Petrie, has his sights set on the job when current president, Alan McRae, retires.  Rod has a problem, though.  He was chair of the SFA Licensing Committee in March 2011, when Oldco Rangers were licenced to participate in Uefa competition the following season.

That decision is now under scrutiny, as High Court evidence forced the Association to examine what happened at the time.  If Petrie is to survive in office long enough to assume the position of president, he needs allies who prepared to back him over what he did, or did not do, in March 2011.

How he is getting on with this I don’t know, but what we know for sure is that he backed Dave King’s call to have Gary Hughes removed from the SFA board over his “great unwashed” comment from years ago.  Petrie is no friend of Newco, but there is co-dependency there.  Gary Hughes was collateral damage.

Petrie should be recused from any work in connection with the awarding of a Uefa licence to Rangers in 2011.  This award was made under his supervision yet he has remained active in how it is examined – a concerning governance failure.  If the Licensing Committee is found to have failed to uphold its responsibilities, Petrie must go.

Morning bhoys…just to say that I am very interested in the Real Madrid job although I haven’t seen it mentioned in the Sun…maybe it’s because I don’t read the bog roll…

I share your anger and frustration re the media and Scotland`s institutional bias .My `solution`, as I believe yours is also, is to ignore both as much as possible.

Where I differ from you is that I am willing to wait until it really is all over before being too critical of Celtic.

That can be difficult at times as some of the issues leave me desperate for Celtic to tackle them head on and baffled as to why they do not but, as I said, I am still willing to wait.

Should the final outcome show Celtic to be complicit, there will be an empty seat in 106.

At present, though, I can still accept the possibility that justice will be done and I can continue to watch the great ( and deserved) success of our team.

Knowing Celtic as I do, the safe option will win the day, as always. However, given the fiancial strength we have, if ever there was a time to gamble, then it is surely now.

An extra round in qualification makes it even more of a gamble than before.

The safer option hasn’t done us too bad up to now.

Hot Smoked…like you I would wait a wee bit longer to see where this is going with the Rabid King…

Not toooooo long though…I can only imagine what most club chairmen are thinking about King’s carry-on. Surely Peter is talking to them and…well! Who knows?

  7. I see Sevco are lining up Murty for his 3rd stint as interim manager when the Ali G experiment leaves the orc hordes febrile after a poor start to the season and the realisation that, after the first Glasgow Derby, they are no closer than they were under Warbuton, Caxhinia and Murty!

I know what you mean. My expectations have been raised so many times yet, to all intents and purposes, THEY are still here . There always seems to be something on the horizon which spells Doomsday but so far it remains on that horizon.

I sometime wonder, if we are just as gullible , and for the same reason, as they are.

    Off to the Golf.

  9. The latest on JJs site is interesting.and pretty damning.

    https://johnjamessite.com/

It suggests the Non Compliance complaints are neither groundless nor ridiculous

That is a matter that the JPDT should rule on unless of course there has been a behind closed door agreement not to compare court testimony with actual events.

Either way the JPDT should be making the decision, after all it was court testimony that created the need for a JPD Tribunal. It would astonishing if we didn’t learn what did place from 2010 to 2012 in full.

It would also be reassuring if someone from UEFA were called as a witness to aid reach the correct conclusion.

That after all was what Res12 originally asked for. Nothing more, nothing less but in doing so has made the SFA accountable.

  10. Auldheid it seems to be very cut and dried unless, as you state, the SFA decide to completely ignore testimony sworn under oath as valid.

JohnJames has been racking up the articles on King in the last week or so and has used some very strong statements that if they were proved to be untrue would be libellous; so it will be interesting to see what comes out on 26th June. There is also the report from Phil that UEFA have been asking questions about their licence submitted by the SFA. Is this the SFA bucking responsibility and looking for UEFA to take a decision for them?

I suspect that the end game is very close, one way or another; by the end of June my feeling is that Res12 will have been fully vindicated and Sevco are hammered for the actions of the previous (although some are still current) Ibrox Boards. They are still the same Club after all ……..

  15. WBC there may be a couple of minutes injury time while Dodgy Dave looks for avenues of appeal but he cannae take it to court because the sworn testimony destroys his legal case OR he would have to prove all those other witnesses lied under oath. That wouldn’t be easy.

  18. King is trying to reduce the issues to a bar room brawl, lots of shouting and gesticulating but ultimately no damage and a hastily beaten retreat to follow follow.

The idea that Celtic should join in this brawl with the clown is in my opinion is just daft.

The SPFL responded straight away and that’s all that has to be said for the moment.

There’s nothing Glibby would want more that this to become an “old firm” war of words it would suit his style perfectly. It would give him the opportunity to attack Celtic on a “personal” level, i.e DK V PL in a square go cos that’s all the clown knows and also knows that’s all his peepul know.

All mouth and no trousers is the Glibster, you would have thought most people have realised this by now:))

Sad to say Clarence will get his sooner or later as I would love to see him in charge at Poundland for years to come:))
