Petrie survival and Gary Hughes

252

Let’s be clear, the role of president of the SFA is one of the most sought-after in football.  Alongside the FA, FA of Wales and Irish FA, the Scottish FA hold one of the four permanent members of the International Football Association Board – the body which controls the rules of the game and exerts soft influence on all structures below it, including Fifa.

Current SFA vice president, Rod Petrie, has his sights set on the job when current president, Alan McRae, retires.  Rod has a problem, though.  He was chair of the SFA Licensing Committee in March 2011, when Oldco Rangers were licenced to participate in Uefa competition the following season.

That decision is now under scrutiny, as High Court evidence forced the Association to examine what happened at the time.  If Petrie is to survive in office long enough to assume the position of president, he needs allies who prepared to back him over what he did, or did not do, in March 2011.

How he is getting on with this I don’t know, but what we know for sure is that he backed Dave King’s call to have Gary Hughes removed from the SFA board over his “great unwashed” comment from years ago.  Petrie is no friend of Newco, but there is co-dependency there.  Gary Hughes was collateral damage.

Petrie should be recused from any work in connection with the awarding of a Uefa licence to Rangers in 2011.  This award was made under his supervision yet he has remained active in how it is examined – a concerning governance failure.  If the Licensing Committee is found to have failed to uphold its responsibilities, Petrie must go.

Apologies for language but DK must be worried about something

Is it not up to the JPDT to decide if the complaints are ridiculous? Is this another attempt by DK to undermine due Judicial Protocol process, one that all clubs voted for in 2011?

Looks like I wasn’t far off yesterday. King is now following through with his Agenda. By stepping aside Hughes/PL maybe making it harder to discredit the Complaints. DK still trying his hardest.

  4. BRTH You said you knew what Petrie did in the recent intetviews for SFA CEO. Care to elaborate?

For those hoping for a new broom/approach in the SFA I just ask myself the question, ‘Who appointed the new man?’ Do we actually believe these people would appoint someone who did not intrinsically agree with them?

Last month the complaints re end of March were groundless and apparently withdrawn.

Now DK saying complaints (all?) ridiculous.

It is essential to know on what grounds.

After all that is all Res12 was trying to establish, if all is in order we just need to see the justification.

It is all okay why weren’t Celtic told exactly on what basis back in 2011? If it is okay now it must have been okay then.

*Thanks, youth soccer season just started so I had tae run out to a meeting as they’re looking at running an all-star tournament in the wee town I live in, more weans, boys and girls, playing soccer than hockey, why?, cheaper, safer and nae egos, everybody gets a game. BTW the young Canadian lads are well versed on world fitba, one was talking about stevie gee going tae some small team, he goes tae St Francis of Assissi primary though lol.

Tontine Tim @ 9.50, I seriously do not appreciate you mis quoting me.

I do not know if you deliberately left out the defining next sentence in my quote, but, to do so, gives the impression that I said the opposite of what I said.

In case you misunderstood, I meant that Ogilvie was a reprehensible character, the opposite of the persona he had portrayed to me. I hope that this clarifies the matter and that your post was merely erroneous not malicious.

*Not my intention to undermine you in fact I was agreeing that there are those out there who come across as “nice guys” that would stab you in the back while smiling at you, I know, if I was tae lift my shirt right now you would see all the chib marks I have on mine.

Sorry if it looked like I was having a go at you, many others mentioned creeps that seemed to come across as “nice”, I just picked your phosting as a reply point.

Whilst I’m on the subject I’d Like Caledonia as the Scottish anthem instead of that anti-English dirge Flower of Scotland! (Boak).

*fully concur with you on that dirge, I love Caledonia and it gives me a lump in my throat but not as much as the Bonnie Banks, now that Jacobite song should be our national anthem.

BTW while at Mass on Sunday the choir sung a hymn tae the tune of “Will You Go Lassie Go aka Wild Mountain Thyme” must admit tae singing the Scottish version, there’s also a hymn tae the tune of “The Boys of Wexford”, another toe tapper.

  9. I am obviously a bit simple but if Dave king is doing his complaining in the press can the SFA not reject this as it has not been done through proper channels using existing protocols ??

  10. King wanting his placemen to be allowed to continue in situ, whats new, nail the whole lot of them and I dont care if it brings the whole SFA down, that might be what he wants and as a consequence as it will take UEFA to sort this in my opinion, it might result in a suspension from European participation for Scottish clubs should UEFA get involved. He wont care and has the usual press outlets pushing his agenda.

  11. Highland Cathedral works for me as a tune.

The fact that a German composed it appeals to the Scottish Internationalist in me.

Just need some lyrics that are about loving your country and the wider world. Unlike the present pish about the massacre of thousands of (mainly poor, many welsh) souls 700 years ago.

  12. REPORTS in France have suggested Celtic’s deal for Odsonne Edouard is edging closer quicker than expected because time is of the essence for PSG.

The French club is about to be wrapped by UEFA for falling foul of the their financial fair play rules – something PSG knew was coming.

UEFA are set to reveal their findings of their investigation into the club’s dealing on June 8th at which point the club could be slapped with a transfer embargo.

This means that the Parisian club would be unable to buy or sell players for a period of time.

The club are trying to raise funds to balance the books to avoid the harsher punishments UEFA could set them by raising €70-90million in player sales according to French newspaper L’equipe.

The paper reports that PSG have already identified players they want to sell and Osdonne is on the list.

The Celtic loan star has made no secret he wants to stay at Celtic Park beyond his loan deal which ended last month and told fans that this was just the beginning of his Celtic journey.

Brendan Rodgers told fans last month that Peter Lawell has already held talks about the player with a €7million fee the asking price.

If these reports are true, it’s now only a matter of time before a permanent deal is reached.

  13. Emeraldbee

It is rumoured that the Board split 4-4 on issues with the old blazers carrying the day on the chairmans casting vote. There was suggested that a deal was done with the blazers naming McLeish as the Team manager and the modernisers getting their way with Maxwell as CEO.

Now as Maxwell was a non -exec in the modernisers camp became the CEO then in theory this would give the modernisers a 5-3 majority over the blazers. Petrie as Vice president is next in line for the Presidents job and is desperate to get it and I suspect he did a deal.

Hughes as a moderniser now will not stand again and it is important that he is replaced by a like minded individual. Going forward Maxwell will have a Board who will back him even if Petrie is in the Chair.

This is the strategy that Celtic and other clubs have backed to rid the SFA of the blazers(and Handshakers)

Resolution 12 was to expose the SFA behaviour and we never want to go back to the bad old days.

  14. Just read the article on Ian young. I always remember him as a very good exponent of the “slide tackle”.

Sounds like the initial concept for a Green Brigade tifo.

  18. Speaking of Despicables

FIFA investigated the conduct of THAT player who agreed to sign for Celtic & walked onto the hallowed turf wearing the Hoops only to abruptly join a deid club.

He was fined 3,500.00 pounds and in their announcement in July 1989, FIFA described his behaviour as

    “Unsportsmanlike Conduct”

The player himself said at a press conference on May 12 1989 announcing he would sign for Celtic.

“I’ll finish my career here. I don’t want to play for any other club.”

“Charlie Nicholas was sold behind my back. I still to this day do not know what money they got for Charlie Nicholas. The chairman refused to tell me.”

Billy McNeill in 2002, speaking about Nicholas’s departure to Arsenal in 1983.

The list of Celtic players sold in this manner beggars belief, yet Billy McNeill never gave up on Celtic.

Not in good health now, but sending the very best wishes to him.

    Thanks Cesar, for everything.

  22. Saw Ian Young play quite a few times from 1962, when I was taken to my first Celtic game, ’til about 1967/68 when he left for St Mirren where he played until 1970.

Memory is a bit hazy, but I don’t remember him being in the squad in the build-up to Lisbon 1967 alongside players like Willie O’Neill, John Fallon, Charlie Gallagher, Joe McBride…

    Decent player.

  23. Coolmore Mafia on

Celtic’s treatment of McNeil was at one point a disgrace. I suspect it was the same towards the rest of the LL .

I think the club really lost it’s way after Stein and Robert Kelly. McNeil was told to use his own money to buy a player. The club revealed a loan they given him to the press. The players sold behind his back.

Desmond White and the board were an effing nightmare. They were anti-Celtic IMO, and 100% about the families controlling the club. They had no idea how to run a club post 1970’s. They are lucky with the restraint shown by supporters after suffering their ineptitude for a decade or more. Fergus really did save us.

  24. Billy was treated abysmally by the old board, but I think it was Davie Hay who was told by then chairman Jack McGinn that if he wanted to buy a particular player he would have to pay for it himself.

If memory serves me well that player was either Steve Clarke or Joe McLaughlin.

Both eventually ended up at Chelsea.

    HH!!

  25. Weren’t that board the ones who used to make up the attendance figures? We used to have a laugh at half-time estimating the attendance and then listening the announcement of the official number. There was usually a discrepancy of about 10,000 or more. Something to do with tax, if memory serves.

  26. Coolmore Mafia on

Yup, but not for the ‘benefit’ of the club – just lining their own pockets. In fact, we probably lost a significant percentage of our income (and the ability to buy success) through their theft, though we will never really know for sure.

Tbf, I got lifted over the turnstyles for a few years, then was still paying at the kids gate when I was 19, so guilty as charged also.
