Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

What is CQN coming to these days, I thought I stumbled across an EDL, BNP or FF website the last few days with some of the xenophobic, racists and right wing posts on here. But someone posting the virtues of that murderous fascist dictator Pinochet is beyond the Pale, what’s next the Nazis were misunderstood?

The rhetoric against followers of islam on here by two posters verges on hate crimes, if you substitute catholic for muslim their posts wouldn’t be out of place on a Shankhil website!

Aye – that’s why after Listen records shut down in Renfield street the utterly fantastic Other Record shop rose.

The staff were all tims and one guy, who was assistant manager was a highly intellectual and witty chap. I wonder what happened to him……

Towards the end of The Other Record shop circa 1987 we just played rebel tunes and told Hun customers to feck off….. Mind you the Irish tri-colour hanging from the speakers inside the shop perhaps annoyed them!

  14. Just a personal opinion. I celebrate Lady Thatcher’s birthday every October. Another year of loneliness, irrelevance, and mental and physical decline; long may it continue. I know it’s not nice, but revenge is best eaten cold. I rather suspect she would understand.

  15. Evening all.

This site has been used as a front for extreme politics for a long time. Why such hysteria about Kojo? This site should be about Celtic. However too many persist in using the site as a place to write about politics.

    Evening CorkCelt:

“I have to assume that both Kojo and the singing Dick are trolls just posting here to wind people up. When I came on first I found Kojo’s footballing posts mildly amusing whilst the other half of the odd couple doesn’t seem much interested in Football and just deals in Right Wing Politics with the odd Racist post thrown in for good measure. I will not directly talk to either re any political post and I know many other posters operate a similar policy. Only problem I see is that CQN is available to be read by people all over the globe including Argentina. I shudder to think of what image do these guys posts give of Celtic Supporters to any occasional visitor to the site. Also when majority of posters opt to ignore them it would appear that the majority are complicit by their silence. I was a long time lurker before I started posting and I must say I am thinking of returning to my lurker status such is my disgust at the antics of these two.”

One assumes you also feel the same about Marxist materials CorkCelt? It seems that one can cheerfully spout about Marxism here without too much comment being made. Will you also denigrate such posters who use this blog for their politics? How do victims of Communism feel when they enter a Celtic site and read moronic homages to an evil system?

I was in Russia when we played Spartak. Russian TV showed a Celtic supporter displaying a Communist flag. How do you think people feel about that?

It would be better if ALL extreme politics were not infecting this football site.

As a club open to all for 125 years we should expect and accept that there will be a range of views on all subjects – we can’t say this and then object when contra views are expressed. As long as posters don’t break the blog rules then we shouldn’t complain. Last night someone posted a link to a lap dancer i found that inappropriate as there are young posters on the site.

In posting this i am not condoning anyones views just their right to post

This music shop discussion has made me quite sad. Record shops are/were run and staffed by people who really love/d music, people with passion. How many people have real passion for what they do? Lots of them were probably doing what they’d always dreamed of and it’s sad to think of so many dreams dying. :(

It was not a lap dance it was a pole dance, and I would have let anyone see it, it was amazing and not in any smutty way, the acrobatics on show made me think it should be an Olympic sport. Seriously, you should have watched it.

  24. What is Paul’s policy regarding politics on his blog? Does anybody know?

Also for the sake of human decency – would it be possible for those who despise Thatcher to not write such grotesque material about her?

I am not defending her but she is an old lady and this is surely the wrong place to write such things.

    Pinochet’s Coup Was A Reaction To A Marxist Takeover…..

Allende was democratically elected by the Chilean people. That was their right.Their rights were usurped by a military coup supported by the C.I.A.who essentially trampled on the democratic right of the Chilean people to elect whoever they wanted.

This blog hates Thatcher ,but it cannot argue that she was not democratically elected.

Repeatedly. So,for the majority Thatcher was their choice.

As far as Marxism is concerned, you are preaching to the converted. As obnoxious as Fascism.Pinochet was a fascist.
