Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

    GG’s post was superb.

Such a shame that you seem to feel relaxed about the evils of Communism

An interesting interpretation of my post.

    For what it`s worth:

I am not relaxed about evil whether the source is communism, capitalism, catholicism or any other ism. As a human being, however, I am capable of a range of emotions in response to a range of actions.I am also capable of seeing when a protagonist uses terrible acts to criticise an organisation/belief rather than the terrible act eg the criticism of the Catholic Church for child abuse seems more interested in codemning the Catholic Church than in abhorring the abuse. You seem more interested in criticising communism than in criticising my post.

My take on it is if Sky don’t pick up the option, then BT Vision almost certainly will. In saying that, i would be amazed if ESPN let Scottish football go. They have lost the rights to EPL, Serie A, Ligue 1, MSL + the Brasilerao from next season onwards. All of the aforementioned leagues rights have been snapped up by BT Vision.

All ESPN have left is the SPL, Bundesliga + the Russian Premier League. They are already going to lose tens of thousands of subscriptions as a result of the EPL etc leaving them.

To lose the SPL will almost certainly sound the death knell for ESPN in the UK.

The only thing I know about Steaua Bucharest is that when winning the European Cup in 1986 they joined Celtic as the only club to win the European Cup with a full team of players from their home country.

Now, had young Tony known that little fact, he could have made a lot of friends in Romania.

    Steaua?.

Lots of Romanians in my wee part of the world . Fitba daft . Some support Steaua , some don’t . Those that don’t – hate Steaua’s connections to the military and the vile Ceausescu [sp] Establishment team. Facilitated by the Establishment etc ..

Sections of their support are notoriously violent . Get into bother with UEFA re racism etc..

Current team are no mugs . Play pass and move football . Lots of pace . Good technique. Couple of good Brazilians.

  5. FC Steaua have no connection to the Military now apart from their ground, same as CSKA in Sofia.

  6. All Tony watt had to say was………………………………..Gheorghe Hagi.

He would be up in lights now in Bucharest.
