Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

I think that is the script.

  4. Congrats to WGS, a long time coming IMHO.

    Now for the downsides.

For WGS- I think it’ll be interested to see how the tartan army take to him given that most are of the Zombie persuasion. He was loved as a player but he has since managed us so might not be the same now.

For us – I have a feeling we will see all of our eligible players being called up for his teams (even the younger ones).

And I know it’s always nice to have a capped player in our team but after what happened to JFK I’d prefer it if none of our players played.

Zombies support Engerlund and Norn Iron.

They hate Scotland because they are seen as Teuchters and Jacobites and the SFA hate them and tried to destroy them by not paying tax bills for them and not giving them everything they wanted as per usual in the last year.

Spent a few great years in Cobh Co Cork had a flat in Pearse Square and drank in a pub called the Rob Roy.

Great little town and St Colmans Cathedral sitting atop the hill makes a striking appearance as you enter the harbour.

It has much historical significance tens of thousands left there for America last port of call for the Titanic. The Lusitania mass graves, Napoleans surgeon is buried there (you could see his skull in the small crypt)

Went back a few years ago and caught up with some old mates the Celtic Tiger done the town a lot of good and much of it was restored to its earlier glory. The houses and flats all painted diffrent colours are pretty to see

    And others.

I despised her as much as anyone.

However, she never hid what her intentions were towards the working class, the unions and Scotland in particular. Also, her virtually murderous intransigence during the hunger strikes was unforgivable.

Unfortunately, people like Blair, Brown, Reid and Mandellson guising as Labour, did nothing to reverse what she did, in fact the proliferation of cheque shops, pawnshops etc. would suggest that they even made things worse

    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity.” (W.B.Yeats)

When that odious man, Norman Tebbit, retired from politics he stated that he’d achieved everything he’d set out to do in that field, i.e. he’d moved the centre of politics in The UKplc significantly to the Right.

    I’d say he succeeded.

And how “full of passionate intensity” is Iain Duncan Smith as he lays waste to the lives of the sick, the poor and the disadvantaged with impunity while people talk of how we’re all in it together and we musn’t grumble, don’t make waves as we stay silent in the boat we must not rock.

Don’t make me sick with talk of humble piety.

  15. As I walk through the Glenshane Pass,

I heard a young girl mourn.

The boy from Tamlaghtduff she cried,

is two years dead and gone.

How my heart is torn apart

    this young man to lose.

Oh I’ll never see the likes again

    of my young Francis Hughes.

    For many years his exploits

were a thorn in Englands side.

The hills and glens became his home

    there he used to hide.

    Once when they surrounded him

    he quietly slipped away.

Like a fox he went to ground

and kept the dogs at bay.

    Moving round the countryside

    he often made the news.

But they could never lay their hands

    on my brave Francis Hughes.

    Finally they wounded him

    and captured him at last.

    From the countryside he loved

    they took him to Belfast.

Oh from Musgrave Park to the Crumlin Road

and then to an H-Block cell.

He went straight to the blanket

    then on hungerstrike as well.

His will to win they could never break

    no matter what they tried

He fought them every day he lived

and he fought them as he died.

As I walk through the Glenshane Pass

  16. I dislike Thatcher with a deep intensity and cannot condemn anyone who hates her. As one poster said the Catholic guilt syndrome prevents me from joining the chorus of those who wish her a long & painful death (even though members of my extended family are included in that Brigade), however its worth noting that last nights carry on was kicked off by the troll Kojo who started with a post praising Thatcher for the sinking of the Belgrano and for the killing of all those young lads on board, Kojo knew the reaction he would get and he is the only one pleased with last nights work and no doubt he is still laughing.(at us).

  17. I thought I would add my tuppence to the discussions on Thatcher.

I am one of Thatchers children. I was born in 1978.

I don’t own my own home and have very little chance of being able to do so.

I work full time and always have done so I have little chance of getting a council home.

I am up to my eyes in debts that I created myself which is my own fault but the system allowed me as a youngster to get loans and credit cards to blow on nights out and trips away with my team.

There was no apprenticeships when I left school in any decent industries and due to my mum and dad divorcing I had to go out and work to help my mum pay the bills which ruled out a university education.

I will get myself on my feet and get my finances and a house purchased but it won’t be easy.

What has Britain offered me? Zero! Thatcher destroyed this country and what she did to the industries and the people of many nations will never be forgiven.

I do not which her dead but I won’t shed a tear when she goes.

today is the close for sb holder’s to get their own seat. after that , sb holders will be allowed to purchase up to 2 extra tickets – then it will be on general sale. I was in the TO yesterday picking up tickets and the ‘feel’ in the TO is that there MAY NOT be a general sale , such is demand.

  19. Thindimebhoy, I was brought up on tales of the Holy Ground from a Cobh man called Tommy Goodchild.

So when I got the chance I visited his old home town and was presently surprised by the picturesque place which as you say is dominated by that imposing cathedral.

IIRC Celtic were due to play the local team a few days after I stayed there for the night.

I don’t wish harm on any human being but the fact that Thatcher is demented, as is apparently Ian Paisley, could be seen as some sort of divine retribution for past wrongdoings.

I cant help thinking though that the zombie horde will soon start bleating against his appointment as another cog in the great conspiracy against them.

Much hype in the media today —-some of it might be true —

    Official statements ——-

There is no crisis —— players are tired/ some players are carrying an injury / key players missing due to injury. etc.

There are no problems in the dressing room . Anti Juve media have been making things up.

There will be no big signing .. Need to be financially responsible . Juve will not be held to ransom. Juve will not give in to the ridiculous demands of players [ taken to be a reference to Drogba allegedly wanting x for y months [plus a bonus ] and demanding that Juve give him the difference [in a lump sum] between what he would earn in China and what Juve are prepared to pay him …

Juve do want to buy Immobile from Genoa . Immobile has said he wants to sign for Juve . Genoa have rejected an offer of 3.5 million euros for Immobile . Negotiations are ongoing …

Fans should calm down .-top of the league / CL last 16 etc etc .

In other news ——— 2 bus loads of Juve Ultras are to be questioned re the violence before /during and after last weekend’s game at Parma . Bars wrecked / stabbings / serious head injuries / burns from improvised explosive devices etc etc..

Some great istitutions, on the High Street, have gone to the wall recently. There has been the loss of approx 1000 jobs to the Scottish economy. A sad day for employees & their families.

Most Celtic fans (in my circle anyway) couldn’t give a four x about the national side, one way or another and I really don’t imagine that will change much because WGS is the manager.

I wonder How many Celic fans were annoyed when watty or big Eck was the Scottish manager?

If the sevconians don’t like Scotland, (as claimed by many here today) they wont give a four x about who the Scottish manager is, (a bit like many celtic fans in that respect)

If the sevconians do like Scotland and WGS is a success they will be happy (about international success)

If the sevconians do like Scotland and WGS is a flop they will still be happy (about WGS failure)

Jose Mourinho himself couldn’t muster a qualification out of the Scottish players
