Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

Looks gen to me-only four stars.

Four more than they should have,of course…..

  2. Gordon Strachan – great appointment.

Can’t wait to see ‘Heid’ play in midfield again – it’s been too long.

  3. i like hooper, but i would sell him now rather than loss 2 or 3 million from transfer value in the summer. keeping him at celtic for the c/l game does not ensure qualification. i would argue we have a better chance of qualifying if sammi plays up top on his own. we will require our quicker players on the pitch vs. juv in order to win.

if hooper wants to leave celtic should move him on while his value is high, if we dont get offered 6 million plus then we should hold on to him until the summer when we should still be able to get 5 million. either way he has easily paid the club back with his goals and contribution.

p.s. maggie t will never have any sympathy from me or mine a b&£$&rd of the highest order, hell is awaiting that c&w

  4. I wonder how long it’ll be before WGS is asked how important it is that sevco are “back” in the top league, for “Scotland’s” sake.

    First press conference?

  5. From a county Mayo town came a man of great renown

As a sailor and a soldier was none bolder

He went to America at an early age they say

As a cabin boy to sail the wide world over.

Then adventure took him south to the De La Plata mouth

San Martin was on the route in Argentina

So three whaling ships he bought and Brazil and Spain he fought

and freedom then he sought for Argentina.

Now Admiral William Brown you’re man of courage shown

and in battles fought the odds were all against you

But your Irish heart was strong and in memory still lives on.

And in Ireland there are some that don’t forget you.

On St. Patrick’s day it’s told you had many victories bold

You defeated all invaders thugs and bullys

Then through the Pampas rose and you found a happy home

    Las Islas Malvinas, Argentina.

He had heard of Irish hands in noble gallant bands

That helped to free the land called Argentina.

He had heard with great acclaim the Patricios name and fame

When in 1806 the British came for slaughter.

And to this very day in the Argentine they say

The English ran away from Buenos Aires

to the islands further down and they took them for the crown.

    Las Islas Malvinas, Argentina.

We remember William Brown and his land of great renown

He, invader of the islands from your country

when in 1833 were by pirates forced to flee

and in Ireland sure we know the story fully

and the people that went too to the Argentine when new

To escape the English laws and wars and famine

They had proved a loyal crew just like all the Irish do

    Las Islas Malvinas, Argentinas.

The old colonial days and cruel English ways

with her thunder plunder we will teach the natives

For the Brits are going to war just like Whitelocke did before

With her ships and guns and drums and flags and banners.

In the Empire days of old when they murdered for gold

and paraded it around the streets of London

Oh no human rights were given to the natives dead or living

    Las Islas Malvinas, Argentinas.

In the Argentine he died Father Fahey by his side

57 was the year his country mourned him

A hero of the nation he’s remembered with elation

throughout the world where freedom still abounds.

And the Southern Cross take note where bold Willie Bullfin wrote

The Irish still support you Argentina

    with the Empire tumbling down

let no Paddies back the crown

    Las Islas Malvinas, Argentinas.

Such a shame that you seem to feel relaxed about the evils of Communism. It is natural to acknowledge the wickedness of it. Maybe speaking to a victim would alter your feelings…

This site has been misused enough by those endorsing this cruel political system.

I didn’t say we would win with Hooper in the side-I said it was unlikely we would do so without him.

Like you,I agree that no player should be holding the club to ransom-in fact,I usually advocate punting anyone who says they want a move-but Hooper seems only to want parity with the other high earners at the club.

If true, then I think he is worth it. Your opinion is equally valid.

    It’s a blog-we canny all agree!

Hope yer keeping well, btw. Gonna manage twice as many games this visit as I originally thought.

  11. Celtic First ——

    Yes

Joined Juve in 2008 . Made a handful of appearances . Loaned out to Siena / Grossetto/ Pescara . Sold to Genoa in 2012. Complicated Italian style transfer . Juve still own a piece of him . It looks like they are trying to buy the bit of him that belongs to Genoa.

Good player . 6ft plus . Very quick . Scored a lot of goals for Pescara in Serie B .

Juve badly need a striker . Matri /Quagliarella are way too hit or miss and Vucinic veers between brilliance and being utterly dire. They have been looking [and failing] for 2 years .

‘ernie lynch – Do you think that she was an evil person?’

I think she was slightly deranged ‘we are a grandmother’.

She lacked humanity, and regarded it as a weakness.

History will not be kind to her.

What I find puzzling is that the security forces never gave her the heads up about Savile (so far as we know).

When I was there in the early eighties I supported Cobh Ramblers (Roy Keane played with them later) We followed them on their epic semi final cup battle (1983) against Sligo Rovers which took 3 replays with Sligo (my mothers county GRHS) winning 3-2 in the last game.

Cobh was pretty depressed at that time work was scarce (Verolme Dockyard shut down) and friends were leaving for Oz and the States all the time.

The Irish Navy based nearby on Spike Island were important to the local economy but it was sad that a lot of the young people were leaving because there was no work. I would have stayed there if the economics allowed it.

I really did enjoy the Cork life and craic. I was called the Scotsman drank in the Rob Roy and other bars like the Admiral The Welcome Inn drove a 750 Kawasaki. Ireland meant freedom to me away from Thatchers Britain and when I went back you could see and feel the change in the people.

  16. Good luck to WGS with the Scotland thing. I guess the wee fella likes a challenge!!

All he needs to do is reunite the dream team of Heid and Mick at centre-back and all will be well….

    No.

It was being used as a symbol of triumphalism.

It’s time the lumpen proletariat element of the loyalist working class got with the programme.
