POSTECOGLOU PLEA TO FANS

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has asked the Celtic fans to be “respectful” during the minute’s applause at St Mirren on Sunday in memory of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away eight days ago at the age of 96.

Following the death of the monarch at Balmoral, there was a complete shutdown of weekend fixtures throughout the UK and the game in Paisley will be the Hoops’ first domestic match since the 4-0 romp against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox side at Parkhead on September 3.

Postecoglou insists the club will respect the commitment as a mark of respect before the midday kick-off against Stephen Robinson’s team.

The Hoops boss, in a media report, said: “I have the same message to our fans that we always have. We’ve always abided by the protocols, we wore black armbands on Wednesday night.

“I think there’s a minute’s applause, we’ll abide by the obligations and responsibilities we have. We’ll do that in a respectful manner and we want our supporters to do the same.

“I’m not going to speak on behalf of anyone else. We’ll look after our own club, our own supporters, and we’ll do whatever is required, as we have done so far in a fairly respectful way.”

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against the Parkhead club after an anti-monarchy banner was displayed during the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw on Wednesday.

The European football bosses sated: “The UEFA disciplinary bodies will decide on the matter in due course.”

Celtic’s city rivals at Ibrox have escaped punishment after they defied UEFA’s ban on playing the UK national anthem ahead of their 3-0 defeat to Napoli. UEFA have decided against taking action.
