Profitable Celtic accounts last year despite revenue dip

1143

Celtic released their financial results for the year to 30 June 2014 this afternoon.  The club remained profitable to the tune of £11.17m (2013: £9.74m) despite a 14$ drop in revenue to £64.74m.  The net cash position at the end of the year was hardly changed from the previous year at £3.83m.

Football and stadium revenue was down £4.4m, which correlates almost exactly to the £100 reduction in season ticket process for around 40,000 seats, but the biggest hit was to Multimedia and Commercial Activities, which were down £5.21m.  The bulk of this fall will be explained by finishing fourth in the Champions League group stage, instead of processing to the knock out stage, as we did in season 2012-13.

Celtic opened a new borrowing facility with the Co-op Bank two weeks ago to replace their existing facilities.  The club have a £6m overdraft (at base plus 1%) and £14.4m of long-term loans.

This high watermark will not be reached this season as revenue will struggle to reach £55m but it’s clear the club can support the current cost structure without needing to pair back.  The project for now is to get revenue back over £70 next season, and for that we’ll need to be better prepared come Champions League qualification time.

  1. Ryecatcher. There is a wee flaw in your argument. Global warming means that it’s getting wetter in lots of places. Particularly the uk. Now unless salmond and co can control the weather (and that’s a new claim I believe) I don’t think the rain will stop at the scottish border?

  7. Canamalar you used the kaiiser report yesterday. I watched it. It’s claptrap.

And earlier we were being told that it’s all capitalists fault. Well I have some sympathy for that. There are many ills from capitalism. But does that mean we are going to buck the trend and go it alone in the western world? Will we revert to communism, Marxism??? Will it be a dictatorship? Will we join bread lines?

Is that what we are voting for?

But I thought Marxist were to be smashed (like the green brigade were)?

Perhaps we should keep trident as our own and Scotland and England can become line north and South Korea. We ecks and Nicholas children can become our glorious leaders in the future.

It’s getting beyond daft now don’t you think?

  8. ryecatcher…I agree with you that future wars will be fought for water…it is indeed a very precious resource…not so sure they are panicking yet at Westminster…

  9. Can’t imagine Scotland or NW England ever feeling ‘water stressed’…..

The world is rapidly running out of clean water. Some of the largest lakes and rivers on the globe are depleting at a very frightening pace. Approximately 40 per cent of the entire population of the planet has little or no access to clean water, and it is being projected that by 2025 two-thirds of humanity will live in water-stressed areas.”

India’s overall water availability is running dry. The country’s water crisis is often attributed to lack of government planning, increased corporate privatisation, industrial and human waste .

  15. ryecatcher…even Lake Baikal in Siberia is suffering. In the last few days it has been reported that parts of this largest of freshwater lakes are turning to swamp…add to that the increase in deforestation in the Amazonian region and it is obvious we are truly giving our poor beautiful planet a real ‘doing’.

Carrying on your litany of assumptions, it would not be unreasonable to assume that on Friday next week , given a YES vote , that Scotland will still be in the UK and EU , that goods will flow across the borders and price inflation will not have sky rocketed.

One more assumption, if I may, it would not be unreasonable to assume that parallel negotiations will take place with UK and EU and that with good will our exit and entry to these bodies will be orderly managed , as by that stage it will be in the fUK interests to do so.

With a bomb, oil, and a large coastline for fisheries , we have more skin in the game re negotiations , and your assumption that we would be spending Euros in the EU is fanciful, as Scotland is currently a member via the UK.

Leaving Scotland out of the EU (for one day) will send a green light to our English cousins to leave the EU, so contrary to the usual suspects spouting off on this, Scotland will be swept into the EU as quickly as possible.

Then when you have a bit more of an argument than ‘you think its crap’, an argument you dismiss when made by aye supporters, explain why we need a central bank or why the krypto currency can’t work, you’ve been ranting on about there are no alternatives but when you are offered any you simply dismiss out of hand without reason.

  20. Cast your imagination back 98 /92 years (depends on your take on history)to how a war for independence must have felt for the brave Irish volunteers…….Fast forward it to 2014 and imagine how they would perceive how it all worked out ,if they were still alive.

  22. We have now entered a bizarre period. The frenzy and fervour whipped up by the yes campaign has certainly got momentum. It’s scaring people into voting yes and perhaps most the chat when asking yes voters why yes the general answer is uh well we it’s worth taking a risk. Knowing the consequences of that risk seems unimportant.

That’s generally a consequence of unbridled unthinking patriotism. You know the sort of things that make people go to war.

And the argument s on this site become increasingly bizarre.

Up is down and black is white.

The OO is an English problem foisted on us by England.

The banking crisis was caused by England

We will dismantle capitalism but at the same time attract industries and cut corporation tax

Oil is more precious than water economically

Vetoing no means you think the same as the OO or BNP but pointing out sectarian scottish behaviour like the OB and you are playing the orange card

Politicians are bad but politicians in an independent country won’t be

We will get the parliament that we want because we are all going to vote the same way but who cares about minorities within Scotland

We will be a very wealthy country but will abandon the financial sector and capitalism

Scotland will go it alone but retain the uk currency against the will of the uk

Scotland will go it alone but be a member of the EU whether the EU wants it or not

Scotland will retain the uk currency and be a member of the EU but not adopt the euro

Socialist communist Marxist Scotland will still be a monarchy with Elizabeth, queen of scots our head

We will eradicate anti Catholicism in an independent Scotland despite being 16% of th population.

Scotland will create an oil fund while cutting corporation tax, borrowing at higher rates of interest, funding free university education, free care for the elderly, free prescriptions but not raise income tax and probably freeze council tax.

Scotland will become an incredibly wealthy country but nationalise BP and the banks and of course dismantle it’s capitalist system.

Scotland will get rid of trident but will be a member of NATO whether NATO likes it or not. That way we will have a small scottish defence force but still benefit from NATOs protection but not have to pay for it.

Scotland will be an international powerhouse whilst it unilaterally dismantles capitalism.

I could go on I am sure.

Behind all of this is good old fashioned anti Englishness and a stubborn sense of revenge. A wave of patriotic nationalism holding all of these diametrically opposed beliefs close to its heart.

It’s worth a gamble we are told.

But it’s not just your own future you are gambling, it’s mine, my children’s

    , my wider families.

  23. canamalar – More to the point, is he an expert ?

Is he credible? I don’t think so, no.

He’s more of a counterknowledge entrepreneur, like a less shouty Alex Jones or a less mental David Icke. Read his Wikipedia page, his antics are quite amusing:

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Keiser

Two years ago, he predicted the pound was about to collapse. He went on Al Jazeera and called for a fatwa on the US Secretary of the Treasury. He thinks we should adopt Bitcoin as our national currency. And this year alone, he has launched not one, but two cryptocurrencies of his own.

He’s an energetic and colourful guy, and I like how Russia Today finds interesting characters like him. But he’s also a crank. (thumbsup)
