Profitable Celtic accounts last year despite revenue dip

1143

Celtic released their financial results for the year to 30 June 2014 this afternoon.  The club remained profitable to the tune of £11.17m (2013: £9.74m) despite a 14$ drop in revenue to £64.74m.  The net cash position at the end of the year was hardly changed from the previous year at £3.83m.

Football and stadium revenue was down £4.4m, which correlates almost exactly to the £100 reduction in season ticket process for around 40,000 seats, but the biggest hit was to Multimedia and Commercial Activities, which were down £5.21m.  The bulk of this fall will be explained by finishing fourth in the Champions League group stage, instead of processing to the knock out stage, as we did in season 2012-13.

Celtic opened a new borrowing facility with the Co-op Bank two weeks ago to replace their existing facilities.  The club have a £6m overdraft (at base plus 1%) and £14.4m of long-term loans.

This high watermark will not be reached this season as revenue will struggle to reach £55m but it’s clear the club can support the current cost structure without needing to pair back.  The project for now is to get revenue back over £70 next season, and for that we’ll need to be better prepared come Champions League qualification time.

Ryecatcher. There is a wee flaw in your argument. Global warming means that it’s getting wetter in lots of places. Particularly the uk. Now unless salmond and co can control the weather (and that’s a new claim I believe) I don’t think the rain will stop at the scottish border?

    ——————————————————————————————————————–

And there`s a wee flaw in yours.

The globe has not warmed for the last 15 years, which is why the term “global warming” was hurriedly morphed into the current euphemism…………”Climate change.”

Climate scientists ,aka weather forecasters , must remain needed.

A change would be more than their jobsworth.

    Neganon2,

Watch the last link then give me a considered opinion, a lot of your questions in that last rant are addressed.

  4. Canamalar see the reposne from philvis. He is a crank who throws lots of theories out there without any consideration for practical workable solutions. He is a sort of conspiracy theorist for the finance sector. He offers no real solutions just lots of conjecture. Would you build your economic policy based on his beliefs. The thing about the internet is that you can always find someone or something to back up the most bizarre theories. They often even portray themselves as self styled gurus or professors or ministers etc.

But you would build your country based on these beliefs.

  5. Canamalar I will watch again.

It’s funny how it’s called a rant eh. Doesn’t it make you at all worried?

Salmond is almost certainly a Mason given his background and previous employment. I think that apart from tradition employment is the main reason men enter the Craft and banking is notoriously rife with it. I worked in HM Dockyard as a young man and it was also a hotbed of freemasonry. If someone was ambitious and wanted to further their career there it was a must to join the brethren.

Having said that it is part of every aspect of life in Scotland. As Lord Elgin (Pat Grand Master Mason of Scotland) remarked: “freemasonry is part of the warp and weft of public life in Scotland”.

Gordon Brown, Henry McLeish are part of the very Masonic Fife Labour tradition so it is apolitical in a sense or omnipotent in Scots politics.

I have faith that an independent Scotland can change that and dispel secrecy on the way to an inclusive and meritocratic country.

Earlier in the year, Graeme Morrice, Labour MP for Livingston, was guest speaker at the Bathgate Boyne Celebrations of East of Scotland Orangemen. He issued a clarion call to preserve the Union.

  10. Macjay1 have you seen the charts for global warming? Shall we deny that global warming or climate change exists? Shall I add it to the list? The entry will be

Scotland will retain the precious commodity of water in the future and use it be build it’s wealth despite the uk and other countries getting progressively wetter.

It is a fact of life that the most precious resource that Mother Earth possesses is water.

It is fundamental to life itself.

Globally and UK wide, Scotland has a disproportionate share of this precious resource.

  13. ekbhoy – Yes, it’s possible the EU was lying when they’ve said, time and time again, that an independent Scotland would have to apply for admission to the EU as a new member state.

    http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-26215963

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said it would be “extremely difficult, if not impossible” for an independent Scotland to join the European Union.

Speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr he said an independent Scotland would have to apply for membership and get the approval of all current member states.

It’s possible EU members like Spain will vote against their own interests and make it easy for Scotland, thus preparing an easy path to seperation for their own breakaway movements.

Scottish independence: Spain blocks Alex Salmond’s hopes for EU transition

No automatic welcome for independent Scotland, says Mariano Rajoy, who expects UK to take same stance on Catalonia

It’s possible the EU will ignore its own treaty requirement that all new members join the Euro.

Interesting to hear Darren ODea is back training with the Hoops. Darren is married to a Glasgow lass and not surprised they got out of the Ukraine warzone. Darren is only 27 and coming into his peak years as a footballer, he started at the club as a left back, could he do a job there as backup to Izzy?

  19. To, I think I have another new entry to my list. In your article you said the following

Because I care. Care when I see how, in my lifetime Scotland has gone from being a proud, industrious and prosperous, nation to become a basket case. A nation largely dependent on North Sea oil, or what little of that revenue eventually trickles down from London after the wars are paid for.

So I think I can add another few entries.

Despite, as you say, Scotland parliament descending into mediocrity, independence will change it and it will become a vino brant parliament with the same politicians in it.

The Scotland today, currently riddled with Masonic influence, will shake off that influence despite being riddled by Masonic influence.

Scotland as a member of NATO, whether NATO likes it or not, will not engage with illegal wars or any conflicts which we don’t like but still get the protection that NATO brings.

    The list is getting longer.

  20. Moonbeams

I have repeatedly challenged the board on here and in person over the lack of energy in finding a better environment for Celtic to play. This goes back to 2004 on here and 2003 in discussions with BQ and others.

Without that change then we are stuck trying to work miracles to compete outside of our borders de to the glass ceiling of potential revenue we can earn.

The current reality is that we cannot budget for certain that we will have CL qualification and that has big implications. We also cannot be sure we can attract folk to play here at any price.

It is tough for them to square things with no real domestic competition and keep interest levels up for fans without bankrupting the business.

We massively outperform clubs from other wee countries in qualification terms of a 10 year period and in business turnover. The support and PL can both take great credit for this.

Without the different playing environment we cannot significantly maximise our potential and without that huge spending increases, even if players could be attracted don’t make sense to me.

Re Livng wage issue I pay my folk what my very small business can afford. I try to provide a really positive growing and learning environment which will help them develop careers and inspire them to be able to improve themselves. I am putting one through a part time masters degree for instance and another has recently spent time looking at opportunities in overseas markets as a kind of paid for holiday. It is not always black and white as regards wages. As our Business grows and becomes successful they will get huge value from their association with it and learning a from it. And increased pay as we can afford it. That might not suit everyone And I realise that but we have created 13 new jobs and opportunities in 2 years.

If what you say is true…

Why didn’t the policy announcements made by Better Together look to benefit the whole of the UK?

    Bankers Bonuses – No Change

Top rate of Income Tax – No change

    MPs expenses – No change

Reduction in the TV licence – No change

Wealth redistribution from rich to poor of any kind – No change

If the UK govt had produced policies that benefitted the whole of the UK, they would not have broken purdah rules, instead preferred to boost the UKIP campaign by producing policies designed to stir up the kind of posts that make Darwin’s look like consensus.

Of course it suits the agenda of the UK politicians to do this particularly as a UK general election approaches, with those supposedly driving a hard bargain against the hated Scots gaining votes.

  25. canamalar – Not sure what you’re looking for me to say buddy.

Sure. He worked in the financial sector. So did Fred Goodwin, Bernie Madoff, and the “Wolf of Wall Street”.

The guy who led the panic against MMR vaccines was a doctor. The “Hitler Diaries” scam fooled eminent historians.

Nick Griffin turned out to be right when he warned that there were Muslim paedophile gangs operating with impunity. Does that mean we believe Nick Griffin is a credible individual?
