Qarabag 0-0 Celtic

541

Celtic turned in a mature away European performance this evening as the subjugated Qarabag in the heat of Baku. Chances were at a premium for both teams. Qarabag were reduced to hopeful shots from outside the box, while Celtic took an hour to fire their first real effort, but had the best two chances of the game.

Celtic were nervous looking in the opening 15 minutes, as they struggled to retain possession, allowing Qarabag ample opportunity to build attacks. Midway through the first half Craig Gordon attempted to punch with his left hand but missed and, fortunately, the ball hit his right hand and fell to safety.

29 minutes in Qarabag’s best player, Almeida de Oliveira forced a save from Gordon from outside the box but although the Celtic keeper had to stretch to reach it, it was a save he would have expected to make. A minute from the break Nir Bitton attempted an audacious chip from the halfway line which the keeper backtracked to stop.

10 minutes after the break El Jadeyaoui had the first attempt of the game which was made inside the box but Gordon saved easily. Then Gary Mackay-Steven drove across field before passing to Stuart Armstrong, who took a step inside the box before shooting over the bar.

On 66 minutes Qarabag found a man in space inside the box for the first time but by the time El Jadeyaoui took a touch Dedryck Boyata was on hand to block.

Seven minutes from the end Stefan Johansen made his trademark lung-busting run into the box to assist Armstrong but Stefan was a tad ahead of the pass and ended up shooting wide while stretching back.

James Forrest had the best chance of the game four minutes from time. He ran at the Qarabag defence from 40 yards out, rode one challenge, and found himself clean through with the keeper to beat but instead of shooting from 12 yards he tried to square to Griffiths (who was never going to get the ball) and the chance was missed.

Delaney’s, i bumped into Felix before a game last year. He has a similar hairstyle to your good self.

He ‘s working at the Barclay’s bank office dealing in stocks and shares at Charing Cross.

Sounded like you had another good night at your local.

I had recorded our 4 3 win against rubentus which was shown on BT Sport last week.

Apart from Lubo’s performance, Didier Agathe was tremendous also. It brought back how good Didier could be in games.

The looks on the rube players’ coupons when their manhandling of Chris Sutton was penalised in the box , was brilliant. Obviously not used to refs applying the game’s rules properly .

    Aiden certainly divides opinion.

I’ve always been a fan and I think he would be a great player for 4 years maybe deeper and more central. I like local Celtic fans playing for us too.

  6. what the hell do we care on

James Forrest may or may not have a long term future at Celtic – luckily these things aren’t decided on the knee-jerk feedback of frustrated fans. I thought he did well when he came on and apart from a good bit of defensive cover from Qarabag’s centre half his cut-back could’ve led to a goal.

Over the 2 legs i think celtic were clearly the better side. Maybe a bit more composure would’ve seen us create more chances. Defensively we were good, however, craig gordon’s brilliant save from almeida was when the defence had left a massive hole in the centre. van dijk was caught too late scrambling forward five yards to try to block it. maybe brown or bitton shoul’d’ve been in there blocking the shot..

Fancy maccabee in the next round.

Wee Paul has the biggest heart I know. He would wind up anyy hun that ventured near his Coachhouse pub. 5 foot nothing and gemme as feck. Crackin wee guy.

I think Malmo would be a cracking tie. However I don’t think the Albanians, Kazakhs of Israelis could cope with a packed Celtic park even with a 2 goal lead. Any of those 3.

Having said that it will probs be Partizan and a rerun of those memories of watching Sportscene that night of the Jacki 4 goals as young boy not knowing the score. Away goals are confusing enough for a primary kid but blinkin flip. Did John Collins play in that game?

  10. Dear Santa,

please give us the Sgian dubhs in the draw.

    Night awesome triumphant Tims everywhere.

  12. Just noticed as I am posting on my phone rather than the pc which has Adblock installed.

Why am I getting ads to join the bloody British Army..

Will this place be covered in poppies come October. Does accepting the queens schilling for recruitments indicate this sites support of those brave young lads.

I really would like an answer to this one.

We have guys on here trying to organise a CQN outing for Dublin 2016 yet have ads for the brits. It doesnt sit right

  13. DD- still to meet Dallas. Sounds like a good mhan and his posts are usually good.

  15. Great result great team performance. Very happy bhoy tonight. Don’t care who we get in the draw but my one and only has just walked in after playing for East Kilbride away to Gretna2008 ( proper name for a newly formed previously liquidated entity) in the lowland league tonight.

    Gretna 4 EKFC 5.

Matthew saves a penalty so he is a happy bhoy tonight also. 6pts from first 2 league games and away again on Sat to Gala fairy dean.

So I’m getting a Belgrade omen with that score line.

The ref let away a lot of tackles against Celtic, can’t remember exactly the incident but that wee dude annoyed Broonie.

If he was a household name it would have been easier to keep track.

  18. Gary 67…………I have BT sport but very disappointed that BT Europe does not begin over here until later in the month. A superb result in those conditions and Ronnys winning streak continues. Might see the game on Youtube tomorrow.

  24. Petec, thanks for that. The last I saw Super Ally was a trustee in EKFC. I know where you are talking about, that is a different place.

Just wondering what Ally is doing.

  25. newradbhoy,

It was a good performance and that lot were using any advantage that they could.

The comment earlier was very astute, about the Army being there en-masse to control the crowd.

The ref must have been sh!tting it to give a bad call.

    Superb Ronny and the Bhoys.

  29. What a GREAT performance from the Bhoys tonight. I thought Broonie led like the Captain that he is, and reminded me a lot of Davie Hay i.e. looking after his players. Whilst I was nervous throughout, at the end of it I thought how much we have progressed from last season. Another thought that came to mind was – if this had been the first leg how happy we would be with the performance.

Every player played his part. There was not one who took anything off the park. They all gave their all and we cannot ask for anything more.

Looking forward to the draw on Friday.

Cape Cod is Green and White tonight.

  30. Maybe sally has gone.
