Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

Anyone else find it funny that McGregor has to go to Turkey to find a club.

I mean this is the goalie that could have the pick of his prem clubs when he was valued at eh £10M, but when you can get him for nothing, nobody wants to know.

Scotland will be a safer place when him and his missus depart.

  3. The Quiet Man on

Paul, I rarely disagree with you, but your post today re Neil Lennon’s comments is completely at odds with your posts over the past week or so, when you have stated time and again how Celtic and us the fans will be used by Regan and Doncaster to fund the rest of Scottish football (including Sevco) and we shouldn’t stand for it – yet now you seem to stand squarely behind Lenny’s rallying call for the coming season.

Have to say, have a heavy heart at witnessing the blatant corruption (for that is what it is) going on in OUR game and the fact that Celtic seem to be reduced to standing on the sidelines washing its hands or frightened to comment.

As decent men like the Morton and Raith chairmen have said, this is an outrage, and if this succeeds, then the game in Scotland is done for and many folk will be so disillusioned at the blatant cheating and tearing up of the rule book that they will simply walk away. I have met PL and Brian Quinn and found them both hugely impressive, and havsubjec reassured that our club couldnt be in better hands.

I have supported PL and the Board’s silence to date, BUT if Celtic stand by and let this happen, then they will have betrayehe of only us, the fans, but all decent fans throughout Scotland. We are crying out for leadership and surely that should come from Celtic as the most financially stable club in the countryfeared in little doubt that the SFA and SPL will “fix” things so as to deliver Sevco into Div 1, in breach of every rule in the book, and then just watch Walter and his gang step out of the shadows again to claim the trophy that is Sevco (or as it will be represented, the continued recovery of Rangers from this difficult period in its history), debt free and ready to claim RANGERS place at the top if the table in 12 mths time.

I have always been a huge supporter if our Board (often against popular opinion) and I still hope that our Board – which boasts some serious intellects – will allow this to happen, unless that is what they want to happen – which is the only explanation that makes any sense – otherwise why would Celtic allow Doncaster and Regan to run among with our game unchecked!

Very worried tonight that the game I love is done for. Hope with all my heart that I’m wrong, but have a very bad feeling about Friday.

Be interesting to see what happens on friday, when(if), the SFL clubs revolt.

Do you think the SFA will erect a guillotine in George Square?

  10. It’s time Ch67 seized an opportunity and started broadcasting Celtic matches live to us here in The UK. I’d happily sign up (probably going to anyway) because no way are Sky & espn getting a penny outta this mug punter….especially now that the masonic fix is well and truly in for SS f.c. to waltz along with the zombie lodge right in there making a mockery of everything and everybody…..still no payin’ a soul and still goose-stepping about with their smug self-preening entitlement intact….free to maim and murder at will….free to bribe huns wi’ a whistle….free to rob every club in the country blind….free of all debt….free to do as they will. Give them much more rope and they will hang us all as they go about turning Scotland into another Ulster.

As for all the hun lurkers on here……GIRFUY.

We’re off to the caravan for a few days(Freebie. You know me).

Thinking of getting a new car so that’ll put a end to any sunshine break.

Besides,if i go away,i’ll still have to talk to her. :0)

  15. I’m sure like may I have logged on every day for the last few months to have my emotions sent into orbit with joy at their impending death and then plunged to the depths when the authorities come up with their latest brazen cheating inan attempt to save them.

I have read the debate about whether Celtic were complicit in all this or were working behind the scenes. I didn’t post and didn’t comment because on the face of things either case looked plausible and I have no inside information to judge either way.

I have not however renewed my season ticket because I have not been convinced.

Today I have been given a reason not to renew.

I read the most recent Raith Rover statement thanking the fans of other clubs for their support. They thank everyone for raising the princely sum of £563. This from a club that has had a tremendous public impact in standing up for the integrity of the game. Yet I have just been told by our manager that Celtic, with a turnover of £X million, have “no control or influence” over where the bigot club play next year? And I am expected to believe this?

The club’s long silence has been justified by many on the grounds that to speak out would allow the media to portray the whole issue as one of a Celtic anti-Rangers agenda. Another reason for silence is that speaking out would only encourage or provoke attacks from the more hate-filled ranks of the bigot clubs supporters. Either way silence becomes self-censorship at the behest of the bigot club and its supporters. Still, I thought I wouldn’t post to challenge this either, and I didn’t.

But there’s one thing I will do. I won’t log on every day in years to come to read complaints about some ridiculous refereeing decision and how this shows how corrupt the Scottish game is because we now know that when you buy the ticket this is what it said you were getting. They are no longer hiding it. In fact bribery and rule breaking are openly paraded as the only way to get things done.

It will not be enough to get the son of bigot club into the SPL in one year. The money they claim they bring will not come back unless they have a chance of winning things again, unless they do win things again. And guess what? Celtic say they can do nothing about it. If you can cheat on such a scale as to bring a club into SFL Division 1 when it doesn’t really exist then anything afterwards will be child’s play.

Now either you believe that Celtic can do nothing about it, in which case you’re buying into a corrupt set-up that can never be changed or you believe that Celtic is lying, in which case there is at least hope that Celtic fans can somehow, some day stop Celtic being part of this disgusting Old Firm. If there are so many hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil ‘unconditional love’ supporters that this hope is forlorn then the only thing stopping a New Firm replacing the Old Firm is the self-destruction of the son of bigot club or the actions of other Scottish clubs and their supporters who, though ever so small, are not afraid to speak truth to power.

That, anyway is how I see it.

  17. teabhoy – I once read a newspaper article about a guy sitting across from his wife of 20 years at the breakfast table, quietly enjoying breakfast toast and coffee while he read the morning paper.

He lowered his paper and meant to ask “Would you pass the marmalade please dear?”, instead what came out of his mouth was “You ruined my life, you cow.”

A lesson for us all, I think.
