Celtic will have to keep the Champagne on ice for a while longer after failing to collect the three points required to win the league at Ibrox this afternoon. The champions-elect looked nervous early on with few looking comfortable in possession, allowing Rangers significant periods of possession. After only 10 minutes Rangers were ahead when Sone Aluko beat Thomas Rogne before cutting inside Charlie Mulgrew and firing a shot past Forster in the Celtic goal.
Celtic scarcely featured as an attacking threat in the first half but moments after going behind Georgios Samaras produced one of the most scintillating pieces of skill on the day. The Greek international collected the ball 70 yards from goal, beat four opponents before his shot from 12 yards was saved by Alan McGregor. Anthony Stokes mishit the rebound allowing McGregor to tip over.
Stokes forced a further save from McGregor with a fine volley after controlling on his chest but the game was soon to look ominous for Celtic. Cha Du-Ri was caught wrong side of Lee Wallace and made the slighted touch on the Rangers player who went to ground two yards outside the penalty area. Referee Calum Murray sent Cha off despite the covering attendance of Charlie Mulgrew.
Despite their numerical advantage Rangers seemed content to prevent Celtic scoring, Fraster Forster didn’t make a single save while Celtic were numerically on level terms or only a single man down. Ten minutes after the break Victor Wanyama was red carded for a two footed tackle on Steven Whittaker.
Lee McCulloch was fortunate to remain on the field after elbowing Scott Brown on the head. In a carbon copy of the incident which ended Beram Kayal’s season in December, McCulloch went to ground after the incident until attended by a physio, which perhaps tempered the referee’s response. Clever, if predictable.
With things clearly not going their way Celtic then lost an offside goal. Celtic had an opportunity to make an attempt on goal when they won a free kick 28 yards out. With Charlie Mulgrew still running into position Scott Brown played a quick pass to Kris Commons but Celtic players were crowded out by a number of opponents and lost possession. Rangers broke forward and applied pressure which brought the best out of Fraser Forster but Andrew Little put Rangers two ahead from what was clearly an offside position.
A further breakaway on the 77th minute resulted in Lee Wallace putting Rangers three goals ahead.
Despite being two goals down substitute Kris Commons started to dictate play and brought Celtic their best period of possession. In the 89th minute Georgios Samaras broke through the Rangers defence but was scythed to the ground by Bocanegra. The referee awarded a penalty and ordered the Rangers player off. Scott Brown scored the penalty
Moments later Commons got the better of Whittaker on Celtic’s left before being brought down by the Rangers player. Commons found Thomas Rogne with the resultant free kick which the defender powered home.

And on another positive note Young Rhys McCabe (his first name is Young isn’t it?) will obviously be made Scotland captain next week. And if Shonny Aluko has a Scottish granny then Scotland should win the World Cup easily. Pat Nevin knows everything. And Calum Murray is sure to be reffing several major international finals after that display of stouthearted fairness.

The relief on all media outlets that rangers had won was palpable.
Not only from the usual suspects, but across the board.
They were obviously anticipating the same violent backlash as the rest of us if rangers lost. What an indictment of that team.

Today was not a surprise, but Murray has a a lot to learn about not making the agenda so blatantly obvious.
Cha’s red was a scandal – it was barely a foul and was never a clear goal-scoring opportunity anyway. As soon as that happened I knew we wouldn’t win.
Victor was stupid – with the ref in that kind of mood a tackle like that is always liable to be punished. But compare to Healy’s on Forrest in December, and Lafferty’s on Hinkel, neither of which merited a red according to the MIB…
As for sending Neil to the media room? I hope we don’t let this lie. I would be really interested in knowing exactly what went on. Celtic’s position vis a vis the SFA is as strong as it will ever be – if Neil has been stitched up I want us to do something about it.
As for Sky – the whole agenda was pro-Rangers and pro-“Old Firm”. This was undoubtedly the best result for them and boy did their delight show. I spoke to someone last week who works with Sky’s Scottish operation on a regular basis – the party line is clearly being put about that the broadcaster wants the Huns to remain in the SPL. Whether this comes from embittered Huns like Tanner, or from someone important higher up the food chain, I’m not sure.
As for the Huns – that’s their season. No doubt we’ll be treated to lots of guff about how impressed the Singaporeans/Americans/Martians were, and how it has “made them even more determined” to buy the Rotting Carcass of Govan…

Not sure if I can recover from the irony of being called dim by someone who clearly finds punctuation and spelling too tiresome to bother with and prefers to use “fur” and “ah” instead of “for” and “I” but let me try.
How does me interpreting certain things from today’s game differently to you raise any questions about me being bright or not? It’s all a matter of opinion. For all I know you could be a semi-functioning vegetable, but that doesn’t mean you have a ‘bad’ opinion on all things celtic, you just have a different one.

Our attitude today was wrong. Some of our players are frightened of Ibrox.
We had a chance to win the biggest prize in Scottish football today against a team who today are earning a quarter of what they earned a month ago. We blew it.
We were not fired up. We allowed prior warnings about behaviour and conduct to suppress our fire and determination. They wanted it more than us and that is unacceptable.
Cha’s sending off was very harsh but came about partly because he was slightly behind Lee Wallace. Cha Du Ri is a significantly faster runner than Wallace so how did the other guy get ahead of him?
Simple – he wanted it more.
I accept all the comments about Calum Murray. He played his part well. However I have to say (tin hat adjusted) I have seen many worse performances by refs in matches against them than that one today.
First and foremost we need to look at ourselves. In terms of where both teams currently are – we should p155 all over that opposition and today we didn’t.
